Not quite sure what is captured here, but I really love this photo. This morning there was that dense must in the valley, the goats were layered through the paddocks, and I think the light made the colours pop somehow. I also love the look on this ones face, even as she obscured the girl behind her (with funny lips on). We have had 12.5mm in the gauge over about 36 hours, and it’s very wet on the ground. It’s a drizzly Easterly here, which is always so wet at our place, but that is quite unseasonal. Apparently we’re in a ridge between two high pressure systems. I don’t pretend to understand! Our boy goats are home and feeling a little sore but a whole lot lighter. Everything went just fine. We’ll be giving them some pain medicine for the next few days and then they should be back to their old selves. I decided that we would see how baby Harold was doing with the boys before we figured out whether he should go back in the stall with his mom, Suzie, and his sister, Heidi. it’s really time for Heidi and Harold to be weaned. Suzie really doesn’t have the calories to spare to continue nursing them. For now, we don’t have any way to separate Suzie and Heidi but it would be helpful to at least get Harold weaned. I was delighted to see that Brian and Elvis have adopted Harold as a younger brother and Harold seems pleased to one of the “big boys” now. 🤗 We’ll have to keep these newly castrated (wethered) boys away from the females for about 6 weeks anyway so this is the perfect time to get Harold weaned from his mom. Eventually, everyone will be reunited in the goat pasture so he won’t be apart from mom and sis forever. I told him to think of it as sleep away camp for a few weeks and he’s good with that! 🤗💕 First pic left to right - Brian, Harold and Elvis. Second pic is Gilbert. third pic shows that Eddie came in to make sure his old pals are just fine. We’ll see if Eddie wants to come out in the pasture tomorrow or hang with his friends. Meet Hank! This handsome guy came to us via our friends at @kingcountypets One of the facets of our rescue work is working with local animal control agencies on cases with goats and sheep. About 2 weeks ago Hank was found at a hiking trail-head where the reporter said that there was another goat with him who had been killed by a cougar. AC picked up Hank and called us and our farm assistant Heather immediately went and picked him up so we could foster him during his stray hold. When Heather arrived he was trembling and didn’t want to move, it took 3 people to get him loaded into our truck and when he arrived at the rescue he way lying down moaning and had no desire to leave the back of the truck. That is until he saw other goats around. Once we got him unloaded he immediately perked up and became a different goat! Although he’s a wether, Hank is VERY hormonal and there is a chance he may be a cryptorchid, meaning he has an undescended testicle which will require surgery. Or he could just be recently neutered. He has now been officially transferred over to the rescue since no owner came forward so he will see Dr. P tomorrow for a scan. Being a resource for our community happens in many different ways and working with animal control is such an important one. Your support helps us, help our local animal control agencies. Willow, Moro Mou, Orea and Callidora decided to enjoy some sun, line up and be extremely photogenic. These girls are part of my therapy herd. At some point (possibly start filming this summer) they will be seen in the majority of the content of the farms YT channel. The girls are older- 3 are past their prime for breeding/fertility, but I just realized that Willow can prob. handle 1 more breeding. As I do: Vet checks and bloodwork. Of the nine new goats, five are male and only one had been castrated already – tall, skinny Eddie. Rather than leave him alone in the boys’ stall while they’re out being castrated, I let him out in the barn pasture to enjoy some fresh grass and a little freedom. I still think he looks like he is Totes’ cousin. 😜 I’m looking forward to introducing them in a few weeks. 🤗 The fascinating thing is that the llamas are completely mellow about having a new goat running around. They notice him, they look at him but they don’t alert like they do when a new pig arrives. 🤪
I have no idea what color Grady is going to end up being by the time this summer ends. That is super blonde hair that is coming in on his belly. It is not old hair from his winter coat, it is fresh growth. I love his dark honey color but he would be gorgeous as a cotton top blonde also. He is one of those handsome guys that can play around with his looks because he knows he is gorgeous no matter what. 😎💕

The boys are off to Seneca to be castrated. It is an exciting first step to be able to unite them with the goat herd in the big pasture where they will have lots of room to run and play with plenty of yummy green grass and fresh hay to eat. Even though we understand this is a good thing, it is really hard everyone else because they don’t understand what’s going on. It is especially hard on Harold who was calling for his mom and Harold’s mom, Suzie, and his sister, Heidi. The boys will be back late this afternoon and everyone will be thrilled and happy to see each other. Until then, all I can do is keep reassuring them that all will be OK.

Harold and Heidi are here to call your attention to our chewy wish list. There are several items that we need but we have a couple of critical items that are marked high priority. Our dog food supply is very low and we all know this farm can’t run without our doggy supervisors. 🤗 The flies have descended and are tormenting everyone. We have piranha fly spray on our wish list. It is recommended by Ryan (Farrier extraordinaire) and it really works. We have a couple of bottles left over from last summer but we are using it constantly and will be completely out this week. We know there are lots of options for fly spray but this seems to work best for our animals and our flies.
