One of the coolest perks of being in the publishing world is that I often get a sneak peek at Advanced Reader Copies of books, which is a fancy way of saying that they will be in your bookstore soon. Like this one--WICKED--by my author friend and mentor, @maggiegiles_ Side note--I got to meet Maggie IRL in Chicago at the WFWA conference last year. WICKED is a super-twisty, murder investigation takes us all over Canada and follows several characters who are victims of a medical crime. TOTALLY creep-tastically scary. Love suspense/thrillers? I’ve learned to tuck everything I fear into neat boxes. The dark coloured bows label them so I know which to avoid. Neat and tidy. Locked so tight, not even dust gathers from the breeze. It’s here they’ll stay. Never to see the light of day. My fortress of emotion. Sometimes. Battlements fail. Always an ambush. A storm escapes my eyes, in tumultuous rage. Nerves rise as my fingers fumble, unable to pack them up in time. Angered by being kept locked away. The longer they’re hidden, the louder they escape. That’s the thing about pain, it demands attention. Some slip away, but I’ve prepared contingency plans for such disasters. I turn down the lights, lock my door, and rattle until it passes. One year ago this month I went to a writer’s workshop and pitched my books to a literary agent. She wanted to see book proposals for all three books! Today was my first day back at Jiu Jitsu in at least 3 months and it felt so good! Definitely don’t have the stamina I had before but I was excited to be able to jump in and do what I could do. I’ve noticed my mind is quick to jump to “no, I can’t do that” so I’m trying to catch it more and be open to how things could work. Maybe it’s not the same as before but if I anchor into the belief that there’s always a way then the way presents itself. This applies to every area of my life. I’m working on seeing the opportunities instead of how I assume things will go. And be open to be pleasantly surprised! The last photo was a fb memory that popped up. One year ago today I pitched three book ideas to a literary agent and she wanted to see proposals for all three. And I haven’t sent any of them in yet! There’s a reason it’s taken so long but I’m doing it! I’m removing “I’m going to” from my vocabulary and am going to use “I am” from now on. Because I’m ready to live more in the present and do the things I say I want to do. I AM going to class. I AM writing my book. I AM healing cancer. I AM working on a kick ass foundation. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
