We are so close to finishing up our journey through the 8 limbed path. And what better way to kick off mental health awareness week! This week it's limb #7, Dhyana (meditation): Once you have blocked out external stimuli (pratyahara) and begun to focus or concentrate on a single point (dharana), meditation seamlessly follows. Meditation, for those of you who have little (or even no) experience, isn’t perhaps what you think it is. It doesn’t have to involve sitting in a lotus position with your hands resting on your knees, eyes closed and completely oblivious to the world around you. There are moving meditations, and walking meditations. And truly, I think ANY activity, if you are truly focused and present, can be done in a way that is "meditative". When your thoughts and worries dissipate and you are truly enjoying or “lost” in the task or activity, it becomes meditative. It could literally be gardening, washing dishes, or even folding laundry if it is being done mindfully. That doesn't make those activities meditation exactly, but for some people the idea of sitting in meditation is anxiety inducing. A better way to start might be just making a conscious effort to be fully present and focused on the task at hand. Once that feels safe and natural, then trying out a short meditation might not seem so scary. 2-3 mintues sitting in stillness and just focusing on your breath (maybe even counting the breath) is a great place to start. Want a little guidance? Join us on Tuesdays @12:30pm for our *FREE* class that focuses on breathwork and meditation. Class is held on IG Live. Although it's Mental Health Awareness Week, mental health is something that affects us for all 52 weeks of the year. Although we wanted to use this time to raise awareness, the conversation shouldn't fall silent once the week ends. Check on your friends, the ones that seem quiet AND the ones that always seem happy. Each person has their own battles and a whole life that we don't get to see, so be kind, always, and never be afraid to talk or to ask for help. “Imagine. Think with us. What would life be like if, rather than sitting at home or waiting for things to happen in your daily life, you volunteered somewhere? What if you called up an old friend? What if you responded to your kids with patience instead of irritability? What if you sought to make kindness a central part of your character? Your life is never going to change unless you take action and initiate the gift of going first. That’s how it works. You have to give love to get love. It has to start with somebody. If there’s no love in your life, you have to go first!” Excerpt from MegaLife: Order our new book on Amazon Today! #fearlesslovemore 🎁 We are a nonprofit organization funded by people like you! More2Childcare is committed to the importance of promoting positive mental health and wellbeing. As part of our commitment, we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week. The children participated in some activities linked to nature at the nursery and also with their parents at home. Have a look at these lovely photos from Sasha in Racers Room. They are growing tomato, strawberry, raspberry and many flowers at home. RACERS children did 3D modelling, using natural elements such as clay, branches, leaves and flowers. We created our own forest beings, animals and clay men. The children have been talking about feelings. We talked about what makes us happy, what makes us sad, what makes us scared e.t.c. The children were asked who can they talk to when they are feeling like this? They said their mums and dad or teachers. The theme is nature, we made faces using sticks, leaves, bark googly eyes. The children chose what feeling they wanted their face to be.  The children also collected leaves from garden, we took them back to the room. On the table  were the children names, the children were asked if they could tell how many letters are in their names. Some of the children were able to count the letters, while other children needed support. We then used chalk to write our names onto the leaves writing one letter on each. ROMPERS has been taking part in Mental Health Awareness Week. The focus was on nature as a way to encourage positive mental well-being in both children and staff alike. Taking into account of each child's interest, we decided on doing a painting activity that involved printing with leaves and exploring the different textures and colours that we see in the environment. Each child engaged well and were able to express themselves freely through language and physical actions. The children enjoyed too using cars to create different marks and their hands to also explore the texture and use various techniques to see what happens to the sand. Sand play promotes healthy well-being by creating a great gathering place that encourages children to communicate, work together, share, be creative and witness other children being creative. The children observed and were encouraged to hold our giant African land snail as well as a common garden snail. They did wash their hands afterwards, showing them how to clean them. This helped to promote ways to take care of others and boost their knowledge of the world around them.   RUNNERS children participated in sensory activities and experimented with natural resources: the children discovered different flower textures in the messy tray and made their own playdough cookies using different stones, twigs, leaves and flower petals. We also used our imagination and creative skills to create some snails and other living creatures using clay.   Please donate here: https://givepenny.com/more_2nurseries_take_action_get_active #royalgreenwich #greenwichnursery #nurseriesingreenwich #preschool #greenwichmums #greenwichkids #greenwichlondon #greenwichlocal #eyfs #ConnectWithNature #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek #More2Nurseries 😍🌺🪴🌿🐌

The end of the week brings us to compassion – feeling for others. Can you do something that shows you care for wildlife or Nature? How does it feel to care practically for Nature? Here at Queenswood we run a Wellbeing Forest Garden for volunteers who need some additional support with their mental health and wellbeing. Interacting with Nature, growing food and flowers, along with socialising with others all have a great impact on wellbeing. One of our regular volunteers, Andy, started in the Garden in February 2020. He said that being in a like-minded group with other volunteers who have experienced similar problems is a huge support to him. The group is very open and share their experiences and feelings in a positive way. #queenswoodandbodenhamlake #queenswood #mentalheatlhawarenessweek #connectwithnature

Mental Health Awareness Week - Nature 🌱🌿🌺🌸☀️ Runners children enjoyed making flower soup in the garden yesterday, using natural resources such as dried flowers, leafs and flower petals. The water play sensory activity targets fine motor skills, and supports children’s creativity whilst connecting with nature. The children took a lovely trip to the flower garden in order to collect natural resources and observe the flowers and insects around the garden. The activity targets the children’s understanding of the world, making links between what they have learned and the surrounding environment. The children also did some yoga and relaxation in our garden. #royalgreenwich #greenwichnursery #nurseriesingreenwich #preschool #greenwichmums #greenwichkids #greenwichlondon #greenwichlocal #eyfs #ConnectWithNature #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek #More2Nurseries 🥰

Mental Health Awareness Week - Nature 🌿🌾🌻☀️🪱🪰🐞🐌🕸 Today Racers children went to the flower garden at the Forum. We took magnifying glasses to look closer at the flowers, plants and insects. The children were very excited to look at these. They touched the flowers and plants and some of the children smelt the flowers and said they didn't smell of anything. We found insects such as ants, bees and flies. At the end we had a group photo and shouted out nature as we had our picture taken. The children also enjoyed  the nature in our garden, we had the luck to see a real butterfly, snails and dig and find some worms.  #royalgreenwich #greenwichnursery #nurseriesingreenwich #preschool #greenwichmums #greenwichkids #greenwichlondon #greenwichlocal #eyfs #ConnectWithNature #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek #More2Nurseries 🥰

Mental Health Awareness Week - Nature More2 children observed different shells found on the beach, they placed them from largest to smallest and commented on their texture and size. They also made a painting on the seashore, they mixed the paint with sand, soap and shaving cream and used different tools to paint such as brushes, rolls and sponges to recreate different textures. They used the shells to make prints on playdough and they were exploring the smell and texture of different natural objects. More2 children watered the plants in the garden. They were asked what plants need in order to grow? Some of the children said water and some said sun. The children went on a nature hunt in the garden as part of mental health week. They found sticks, stones, leaves, bark insects such as snail, ladybird and grasshopper. We talked about what mental health is and who we would talk to if we were feeling sad, happy, scared or anxious about something. The children said "my mum, dad and teachers". 🥰🥰🥰 #royalgreenwich #greenwichnursery #nurseriesingreenwich #preschool #greenwichmums #greenwichkids #greenwichlondon #greenwichlocal #eyfs #ConnectWithNature #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek #More2Nurseries

Today is beauty day – can you spot anything in nature (remember it can even be a tiny flower poking out from the tarmac) that looks beautiful to you? Does the beauty depend on where you are, or where the natural thing is? Does the light or weather make a difference? Can you describe the beauty in words, in a poem or a song? Or capture it in a photograph or drawing? #queenswoodandbodenhamlake #queenswood #mentalheatlhawarenessweek #connectwithnature

You are enough. In a world that profits from continuously telling us that we should be smaller, happier, more successful, you are enough. In a society which trivializes and belittles the struggles of men under the veil of masculinity, you are enough. At a time when women’s bodies, despite decades of progress in body acceptance, are still scrutinized and judged to no end, you are enough. The world is a complicated and difficult place to be. Take time to understand that your place in it is important and you deserve to feel content. Reach out to your friends and family, check in. Struggles are still going unspoken. It feels like we have an “awareness week” for a hell of a lot of things nowadays, but I feel that this one is incredibly important. Take this week to educate yourself a little, find out how your friends are doing. If you’re in a dark place, try reaching out, make that first step towards a better and happier existence because it IS achievable. #mentalheatlhawarenessweek @mindcharity @nhsmind

Throughout the week we are celebrating #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek by focusing on some of the inspiring people, businesses, and charities that are working to change the dialogue around mental health and self-care. ⠀ ⠀ 🌼We love that this year's theme for #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek is nature. There is so much powerful evidence that demonstrates the benefits of nature to our mental health.⠀ ⠀ How many of you found that nature helped you to get through the pandemic? ⠀ ⠀ Research on the mental health impacts of the pandemic have showed:⠀ 💚 During lockdowns, people not only spent more time in nature but were noticing it more.⠀ 💚 Going for walks outside was one of the top coping strategies a⠀ 💚 45% of us reported being in green spaces had been vital for our mental health. ⠀ 💚 Websites that showed footage from webcams of wildlife saw hits increase by over 2000%! ⠀ ⠀ So ask yourself - ⠀ 'How does nature help my own mental health'?'⠀ ⠀ And then during this week please take a moment away from the stresses of your job and work to connect with nature, whether that's via a webcam or in your local park. Use this week to look after yourself and embrace the nature around you. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Check back here throughout the week for more tips and stories to inspire and raise #mentalhealthawareness.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #WorkforGood #selfcare #mentalhealth #Instagood #BeKind #BeKindToYourself #mondaymotivation #smallbusinesssquad #smallbizuk #smallbusinessuk #womeninbusiness #mindfulness #business #smallbusinessowner #smallbusinesstips #goals #mentalhealthmatters #inspiration #nature #maternalmentalhealthawareness

As part of our commitment, More2Nurseries is celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week. The week, which is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, is in its 21st year and runs from 10-16th May. This year’s theme is Nature and how connecting with the natural world can support good mental health. Even small contact with nature can reduce stress level and feelings of social isolation, which can be effective in protecting our mental health. This week across the country, people will be celebrating the mental health benefits of being around nature in their local community in a range of digital and creative ways. More2Nurseries will be doing lots of nature related activities. We aim to make a habit with the children each day of connecting to the nature in our local area such as watering and looking after the flowers, plants, trees in our garden, planting with the children, making pictures and art works using natural items, doing some paintings in the garden copying the leaves of the trees with the older children or painting some insects what they found in the mud kitchen area etc. Please feel free to join us and continue these activities at home also with your little ones. If you get involved, we would love to see your pictures. If you are happy to share on social media, the hashtags are #ConnectWithNature #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek and #More2Nurseries. More2Nurseries has also signed up to ‘Take Action Get Active’ challenge as part of the Mental health Awareness Week. Staff members will be encouraged to take part in half an hour of exercise a day outdoors throughout May and we will raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation. If you would like to donate for this good cause, please find the link below. Together we can make a difference. Can you say the words "mental illness" and not shy away, cringe, catch your breathe, feel awkward, etc? No judgement if that's not possible for you, I was VERY much in the same boat a few years ago. But then...life happened. I could have either put my head in the sand about what is fact OR I could accept the truth of where I was at, moreso where my child was at and I GOT TO WORK. I'm a Gen-X'er and we were brought up in a world where mental illness was scary and not spoken about for the most part. If you had a mental illness you were "Crazy" and most likely had to be medicated and on the verge of being locked up. Now, I'm a Gen-X'er who is learning to overcome my own stigmas and have completely changed my way of thinking. I need you to learn to be open to the idea that mental illness is just like any other mental illness - worrisome, life-threatening and exhausting. I'm a Gen-X'er who is gobbling up as much information on as many different platforms and hoping to normalize mental illness in such a way that people aren't scared to reach out for help because they feel less-than. My dream is for you to be able to verbalize how you're feeling mentally - and feel supported, not threatened or judged. Put your damn labels away. What we learned as kids is no longer relevant. Science, education and acceptance have brought us forward...it is now our job to continue to push for change, support and compassion. I'm here to talk at any time. Reach out should you need me. #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek #FuckYourLabels #MentalHealthMatters #GetReal

Let's kick off the #ChildrensBooksILove series by talking about "The Lion Inside" by @rachelbrightbooks and @_jimfield 🦁🐭 For #MentalHeatlhAwarenessWeek this book is particularly important. It is one my favourites because it follows the meakiest Mouse who just wants to be brave like Lion. However, he soon realises that whilst Lion is brave, he also has his own fears and worries. It's a fantastic book and a firm favourite with my Year 1 class. 📚 #childrensbookreview #thelioninside

Sunday's #ediblebites is about #omega3 fat, these are essential and need to get them from our diet. Other sources of Omega 3 oils are: flax seeds (also called linseed), Ostrich & Venison #lovefood #mentalheatlhawarenessweek #MHAW18 #mackerel #oilyfish

Today's #ediblebites is a #Didyouknow #mhaw18 @mentalhealthfoundation #Stress #mentalhealth #mood #brainfood #lovefood #mentalheatlhawarenessweek Pic: @NordWoodThemes Mother nature has a habit of giving us hints, #walnuts look like our brain! They have a significantly high concentration of DHA, a type of Omega-3 fatty acid. Among other things, DHA has been shown to protect brain health in newborns, improve cognitive performance in adults, and prevent or ameliorate age-related cognitive decline. Combine walnuts in a salad with celery, apple and grapes to make a Waldorf salad, or chop them up and sprinkle on your porridge with a drizzle of maple syrup!!

Continuing the #ediblebites theme around #mentalhealth today is about #wholegrains. Wholegrain rice takes about 30 minutes to cook which can be challenging if you want a quick meal!! However it does freeze really well so my suggestion is to cook a large batch of it, plate up what you want to eat for that meal, then chill quickly under cold running water, drain well, then bag it up and freeze. When you want to use it next, all you need to do is get a pan of boiling water, add in the frozen rice and when it comes back to the boil the rice will be refreshed and ready to eat!! #lovefood #mentalheatlhawarenessweek #mhaw18 @mentalhealthfoundation #Stress #Bvitamins #mood #energy #yourhealthmatters
