As she and Matt Flynn, her investigator and life partner check, out the scene, they find another body at the site. The final body count is three, all appearing to be young women placed there at different points of time. Do they have a serial killer in their midst? 💛the heart of the story…💛 Under normal circumstances, investigating this type of crime would be a challenge for Bree’s understaffed department but they’re in the throes of a flu outbreak throughout the county, impacting every unit. I was impressed how they didn’t let this impact the case, drawing on outside resources without letting anything slide. Bree’s family situation continues to bond and solidify, including Matt who has moved in. It was a lovely aspect of the story to balance the tragic murders of these girls and the sudden disappearance of two more who seem to fit the profile and some badly behaving men in their lives. 🎧 the narration… 🎧 I enjoy Traister’s storytelling skills as she models Bree’s temperament and personality. I’ll always listen to this series as she’s now the voice in my head for the characters. 🎯 the bottom line…🎯 The procedurals were exceptional, particularly how Bree maneuvered around the staff shortages but never sacrificing the processes. There were multiple suspects to ponder and it was essential to pay attention to the clues (beware the red herrings). The case was fascinating but I was equally drawn to the personal aspects involving Bree, her blended family and friends. I love how the characters lives are unfolding and how Bree, with the help of Matt's family, is beginning to realise her worth. With staff diminished because of a bout of flu Bree is called to a woodland clearing where hikers have found a dead body wrapped in tarpaulin, when the wonderful police dog Greta arrives, sadly she finds 2 more bodies in varying states of decomposition. The race is on to find the serial killer before he strikes again. I raced through this fabulous read, the books are so fast paced you could be forgiven for letting everything slide as you really can't put the book down. Elle se rend compte qu’elle n’est pas guérie et ne le sera peut-être jamais. Durant l’enquête sur la mort de sa sœur, elle s’alliera à un détective Matt Flynn, lui aussi a ses propres blessures. Ils essaieront de surtout tout ça pour trouver le meurtrier. Ce qui m’a marqué dans ce premier tome, c’est qu’on voit tout le traumatisme de Bree, et comment elle a tout refoulé pour ne pas y penser parce qu’elle n’aura jamais de réponse concernant la mort de ses parents. On suit le cheminement d’une femme forte, honnête et qui sait ce qu’elle fait. On a plusieurs points de vue, celui de Bree et son compagnon, mais aussi le point de vue du meurtrier. On sait ce qu’il pense, mais on ne sait pas qui il est. On marche à tâtons comme les enquêteurs. Il y a une histoire d’amour dans ce roman, ce qui est remarquable, c’est que la romance n’est pas au centre de l’histoire, elle est reléguée au second plan. Tout le roman est concentré sur l’enquête, trouver le meurtrier d’Erin. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this series just keeps getting better and better with each book. On Her Watch is book number 8 in the series from Sheriff Bree Taggert and Investigator Matt Flynn. When hikers discover the body of a young woman in the woods, Bree brings in the canine unit to secure the area only to discover two more bodies. During their investigation, one of the victim’s friend goes missing and another young woman disappears leaving Bree and Matt stretched thin to find them alive and hunt down a serial killer. Bree and Matt are perfect together and I love the family unit they’ve created with Bree’s niece and nephew. They all continue to grow and heal individually and together and their futures are promising. 📚Book Review📚 On Her Watch by @melindaleigh1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 We are reunited with Sheriff Bree Taggert in 𝘖𝘯 𝘏𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 (Bree Taggert Book 8). When a pair of hikers found 3 bodies, all possibly female, Bree knew she might have a serial killer on the loose. As more young women went missing, Bree and her family's safety were threatened. Would Bree and Matt Flynn, her boyfriend and investigator, be able to uncover the link between the victims before more women die? This is a spine-chilling psychological thriller. I am always a fan of the 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘛𝘢𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘵 series and this is no exclusion. In fact, I personally feel that the books in this series get better as they advance. The plot grips you from the very beginning and it is fast paced. The plot twists and suspense are well written and the major reveal isn't disappointing. I have always loved the dynamics between Bree and Matt and it's really nice to see their relationship developing well. It's safe to say that author Melinda Leigh has earned a spot as one of my favourite authors on my shelf. I look forward to more of her books and I hope the 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘛𝘢𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘵 series won't end soon. I just finished book 5 of the series and have loved each case as well as the connected plot about the characters home lives. Book 1 is still the darkest/most emotional since Bree is confronted with her own sister's death. QOTD: Do you have an irrational fear? Bree is set off by dogs. 📚Book Review📚 See Her Die by @melindaleigh1 SEE HER DIE by Melinda Leigh is the second book in the Bree Taggert romantic suspense/police procedural series and the second book that I have read by this author. I find I've enjoyed this more than CROSS HER HEART (Book 1). This was full of suspense and mystery that I found myself reading it well into the night (and dawn 🤭) A body shot without the evidence of a body or blood? Multiple teenagers missing only to end up dead? A faceless hunter/murderer just bidding his time, waiting? This book has it all! It was fast paced and I was hooked from the start until the end. I love how the characters in this book are more developed and I also love the growth in them. This story is complex, with great characters, their backstories, clever and twisty plots. Overall, another 5⭐ read for me. Definitely a piece that fans will get excited for. Her Second Death is a prequel that can be read in chronological order or order of series release dates. It is versatile and can introduce new readers to the series or be appreciated by repeat series fans. Dana is the hard, lead detective and Bree, though nine years as a patrol officer, is a rookie detective. They are a new team and they have a murder turn into the hunt for a missing little girl. Bree is somewhat gutsy and Dana a steady eddie, but they have good chemistry as working partners. I enjoyed seeing them work the case and Bree catching the clue that blows the case wide open. I liked seeing Dana in action before she is retired and very domestic in the series books and I liked seeing how Bree was as the junior officer. There was that strong blend of personal story with police work the author is good at writing and some bracing moments to make this short-story a well-rounded engaging read. Definitely a recommend to mystery and romantic suspense fans! I rec'd an eARC for free from marketing to be read in exchange for an honest review. So this is a series that I’ve been reading for at least the last three years. I love @melindaleigh1 out of the 37 books she has out I’ve read 24 of them. (Some of those haven’t been released yet…no rush Melinda 😅). Anyways, back to it. Sheriff Bree Taggert is back again. I love this dynamic Bree is trying to keep her personal life, she has custody of her deceased sisters two kids, and is dating Matt who is the police departments investigator/consultant. Dana Romano, a retired police officer watches over Bree and her family, while they all live on the family farm. Long story short, there’s death and lots of fingers being pointed at cops current and former. Because “cops always stick together and cover their own.” (Not a political statement a quote from the book). Bree and Matt have to clear Dana’s name. I can’t believe how well written this book is, really all of her writings. I love how envolved the writing allows you to be in it. The audible voice actors are also did such an amazing job as well. By now, I don't even bother reading the blurbs before auto buying a Melinda Leigh novel. I'm always guaranteed a fast paced plotline involving action, mystery and suspense, shaded by strong yet wholesome family dynamics. A year on after we first met the Taggert family, they're closer than ever and have overcome many adversaries. I absolutely enjoyed Dana have more of a leading role this time: traumatised and victimised by her boyfriend's murder. However, the constant companionship of Matt's brother Nolan proves to be a comfort for the ex cop. In many ways than one 😉. It was a delight to see Morgan Dane have a few scenes! I'm nearing the end of that particular series, so it was nice to check in with her. Fingers crossed that ML will write more of this character soon. Catch Her Death is done and dusted and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of book 8, On Her Watch, out in May 2024. Eeep how will I cope??!! 4.75 🌟

I enjoyed seeing Matt's family playing a more significant role in this book and the introduction of K9 Officer Collins with her dog Greta, initially trained by Matt. You can feel the love in this found family, enhancing the overall story. It's hard not to be invested in this wonderful family and group of officers. Even with danger stalking them, Bree and Matt's relationship continues to evolve and grow. They are a great couple, each recognising their flaws and their strengths working together. The intimacy of just doing "family things" together just gets you in all the feels. And Nolan, the dark horse, has been hiding some secrets of his own! Dana may just have to contend with another Flynn making himself at home! The action and suspense are well paced and there are plenty of twists and turns. With plenty of twists and turns, Leigh writes a gripping police procedural tackling not only several murder cases but showcases the use of K9's in the field. I really loved how Leigh subtly wove everything together until the big reveal. Leigh's character work is top-notch, Bree is complex yet remains incredibly likable. And I love reading the growth of her relationship with Matt. In addition, I very much enjoyed catching up with all the side characters particularly in the book Bree's best friend, Dana, and Matt's brother, Nolan, who are more central in the plotline. Additionally, I always get a kick out of seeing Morgan Dane make an appearance. And one can't forget all the great dogs, especially Greta the new K9, and horses present in the book. Take care and check the CWs. This is the seventh book in the series to start from the beginning pick up Cross Her Heart, book one. This book was interesting because it focused a lot on Bree’s past. Gave it the four stars because it was a good mystery that kept me engaged and trying to solve the case the whole way through.
