It’s taken me 34 years to accept that. 34 years to stop comparing, to quit only wearing high waisted bathing suits & bottoms because I felt the need to hide. If high waisted clothing helps you feel your best there is no shame in that, just check in with you and be mindful of self-talk. Feel yourself, forget everyone else. What we really need, is to celebrate postpartum bodies. What I needed, but never saw, was the celebration of bodies like mine. So here’s to me & here’s to you, ya badass bitch!🥂 We are no less glorious or worthy of adoration because we bear the evidence of birth. This body is not ruined by scars or loose skin. It’s adorned with the markings of where I’ve been and the five precious humans this incredibly strong uterus has held. Life is like ice cream, enjoy it before it melts 🍦 It's crazy to me how I used to tell myself, "when I loose weight I'll go to these places, where these things, or try these new activities." That is no way to live life. I can't believe I said that to myself before because now I do live my life like it's ice cream, I enjoy each and every moment! Yes I'm obese. Yes I'm fat. I used to attach my self esteem to my body image!! I would reach my ideal shape or weight look in the mirror and still feel incomplete. I held the false belief that when my body looked like… “then I’d be happy, then I would hold self acceptance” Self esteem isn’t in how my body looks self esteem is in uniqueness, in my power, my ability to be seen, my boundaries, my self expression, in my flaws. You don’t have to be slim and toned to hold self esteem. Let’s end that false belief. Strength & Conditioning, Pilates, nutrition etc are tools to be used in purpose of movement ability and health not as remedies to overcome false aspects of self aiming for a finish line; there is no finish line! Creating self esteem through body image isn’t self esteem it’s ego, it’s control and it’s conditional! If you are struggling with your weight, your self esteem this is your reminder that you are more than your body image you are a whole universe, a million life’s in this wee physical vessel of yourself here on earth. A painting I have been thinking about for a while now. When I was in High School I started running cross country and track and to no honest I was petty slow and really scared of running. I would always compare myself to the other girls who were smaller and faster than me. I wanted to be like that so I started dieting and running more and then it turned into eating less and running way more. I eventually got down to 100 Lbs thinking I wasn’t small enough. I was never going to be satisfied with that number on the scale or the times I was running. I sadly developed a very bad habit of hating my body and I’m working so hard now to learn to love it. You only get one body and it’s yours to do with what you please but you should always love it and take care of it. You can always lose the weight again but you can’t get your life back once it’s gone. Always fuel your body with love and good food! ❤️
