1 in every 30 people over the age of 40 has the risk of developing eye pressure disease, "glaucoma", and everyone has the risk of developing eye pressure, which increases with age. Considering that the risk of developing glaucoma increases with the aging of the eye, even without a family history, everyone is at risk of developing glaucoma over the age of 40. It is recommended to have an eye examination for glaucoma every 3 years until the age of 40 and every 2 years after the age of 40. Factors that are increasing the risk besides aging progress: ⭐️Family history of glaucoma (genetic predisposition) ⭐️Cigarette use ⭐️Diabetes ⭐️High or low blood pressure ⭐️Myopia ⭐️Long-term cortisone treatment ⭐️Eye injuries ⭐️Migraine It is recommended that people with these characteristics have their eyes examined for glaucoma once a year. #glaucoma #eyepressure #visionloss #glaucomatreatment #earlydiagnosis #eyehealth #ophthalmologist #health #talya #talyatıpmerkezi #antalya #türkiye

✨👁️ Challenge #133: Anatomy of Retinal Nerve Fibers 👁️✨ 🔬 Professional Insights: The retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is a critical component of the eye, consisting of axons from the retinal ganglion cells. These fibers are essential for transmitting visual information from the retina to the brain via the optic nerve, playing a pivotal role in visual acuity and field. 🎨 Key Aspects of Retinal Nerve Fibers: ◼️ Papillomacular Bundle: Directly connects to the macula, responsible for high-resolution central vision. ◼️ Nasal Fibers: Cross over at the optic disc, contributing to peripheral vision. ◼️ Temporal Fibers: Do not cross, providing lateral visual information. ◼️ Superior and Inferior Arcuate Fibers: Form arching bands above and below the macula, sensitive to glaucomatous damage. 🛠 Clinical Application: ◼️ Glaucoma Diagnosis: Thinning of the RNFL is a key indicator in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma progression. ◼️ Neurological Assessments: Changes in the RNFL can indicate neurodegenerative diseases like multiple sclerosis. 🎓 Clinical Challenge #133: A patient comes in for a routine eye exam with concerns about slowly progressing vision loss. Upon examining the RNFL, notable thinning is observed primarily in one specific part of the fibers. Which area of the RNFL is most commonly affected early in glaucoma? ◼️ Papillomacular Bundle ◼️ Nasal Fibers ◼️ Temporal Fibers ◼️ Superior Arcuate Fibers ◼️ Inferior Arcuate Fibers 🔐 Answer: Superior Arcuate Fibers 📚 Reference: Kanski, Jack J., and Brad Bowling. For her entire life, college student Olivia Cook had only a small degree of central vision. It was as if she was watching the world through a straw hole, and in dimly lit places, she could not make out people’s faces, only their silhouettes. But after receiving an experimental gene-editing treatment to one of her eyes, she now can see things she never saw before. Cook was born with an inherited retinal disorder that causes blindness, a rare type of eye disorder historically called Leber congenital amaurosis or LCA. A few years ago, she decided to participate in a clinical trial that involved using the gene-editing tool CRISPR to correct the form of inherited blindness that she has. “My life has mostly changed in terms of being hopeful that there is going to be more science and findings in the future,” said Cook, 22, who is currently studying marketing and product development at Missouri State University in Springfield. She received the experimental gene-editing treatment through a surgery performed on her left eye. “Now, post-surgery and post recovery, I am able to see in dimmer lighting with my left eye,” Cook said. A treatment that used CRISPR was found to be safe and efficacious in improving vision among a small sample of patients with inherited blindness in the Phase 1/2 clinical trial that Cook participated in. Inherited retinal degenerations are a leading cause of blindness around the world. Among a total of 14 volunteers, including Cook, the gene-editing tool was found to be associated with a “meaningful improvement” in vision for most patients around three months later and it was not directly tied to any serious side effects, according to the trial results, published Monday in the New England Journal of Medicine. amp.cnn.com #iclonedna #cloning #dna #crispr #elon #spacex #artificalintelligence #chatgpt #blindness #visionloss #visualimpaired #medical #blind #sightloss #human #humanity #life #lifeofadventure #biotech #stemeducation #news #technology #technews #humaninterest #eyes #eyehealth #geneticengineering #visionloss #visualimpaired #visualimpairment #sightloss

There are 2 ways to be BLIND‼️ 1. noun 1. The state or condition of being unable to see because of injury, disease, or a congenital condition. 2. noun 2. Someone with normal vision but a lack of perception, awareness, or judgement; so blinded by ignorance aka a shithead. The first one isn’t a choice, the second one is. A blind person with a good heart and strong sense of awareness is way more powerful than someone with normal sight who is a an awful person. Let me know if you agree or disagree… Before you judge me for saying that, just FYI I am blind with just 3% vision and hearing loss. I live with a condition called Usher Syndrome, a degenerative genetic condition and there is no cure. 👁️ Exploring Eye Diseases Part 2👁️ Welcome back to our eye health series. In this second part, we'll continue our journey by delving into common eye diseases and their impact on vision. From cataracts to diabetic retinopathy, understanding these diseases is crucial for maintaining healthy eyesight. 1. Cataracts: Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred or dim vision, glare, and difficulty seeing at night. Cataract surgery is the most effective treatment, where the cloudy lens is replaced with an artificial one. 2. Glaucoma: Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased intraocular pressure. It can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. Treatment may include eye drops, oral medications, laser surgery, or traditional surgery. 3. Macular Degeneration: Macular degeneration affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. It can lead to blurred or distorted vision, and in advanced stages, a blind spot in the center of the visual field. Treatments include medications, laser therapy, and nutritional supplements. 4. Diabetic Retinopathy: Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that damages the blood vessels in the retina. It can cause vision loss or blindness if left untreated. Management involves controlling blood sugar levels, laser therapy, injections, or surgery. Take proactive steps to safeguard your vision. Schedule your comprehensive eye exam now to assess your risk for eye diseases and receive personalized recommendations for preserving your vision. Well unfortunate major life update, but I think worth sharing. Back in October of 2023 I noticed my vision wasn't great. It seemed sudden so I instantly made an appointment and got in right away. My eye doctor confirmed that I had lost a good amount of vision especially in my left eye. This launched a series of different tests ranging from vision, MRIs, and genetic blood work. Through the genetic testing we found that I have a genetic eye disease called ADOA (autosomal dominant optic atrophy). In a nutshell this means that my vision will continue to decline without correction over time. How far it will decline and the rate varies from person to person. I feel like it's going very quickly for me which makes me very anxious, but there is no telling if that will continue or if it will slow down. As you can imagine this is pretty devastating news for me especially as a mom of two little girls. My main concern right now is keeping my drivers license since we really like to be on the go. My prayer is that this will be a very slow progression for me, and that we could find the reason why it seems to be going so quickly. I have a brain MRI coming up that I'm praying will reveal something. Hopefully this won't change much for me for a few more years, and I plan to continue living life to the fullest and enjoying everything God has already given me. Please pray for me and my family if you think of us. I know that I will adjust but I'm a planner by nature and this was definitely not in the plans lol! I hope that if anything I can be a resource to others overtime ❤️. #adoa #visionimpairment #visionloss #visionlossawareness

Cortical/cerebral visual impairment (CVI), a visual processing disorder and the leading cause of visual impairment among children in developed countries is associated with markedly lower vision-specific quality of life (VS-QOL) in affected children compared to typically developing children, according to Michelle Lin, MD, from the University of California Riverside, Riverside, CA. She discussed her findings at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology annual meeting in Seattle. Sister Macrina Wiederkehr's books offer weekly reflections that reveal the spiritual teachers at work in your life, inviting you to listen to these teachers and learn from their wisdom. Patricia R. in the @lacatholics requested Sister Macrina's "The Flowing Grace of Now: Encountering Wisdom through the Weeks of the Year." Here is a bit more about this book from @avemariapress: “There is an old proverb that says, ‘When the student is ready the teacher will arrive.’ I think I have been ready for a long time, yet perhaps I have spent too much time looking for the perfect teacher rather than seeing the teachers that arrive in unexpected ways.” With these words, retreat guide and author Sr. Macrina Wiederkehr begins The Flowing Grace of Now, a year-long companion that ushers you into the presence of teachers already at work in your life—teachers intent on helping you deepen your faith. These teachers are not necessarily saints, writers, or theologians, but rather ordinary people, events, and experiences whose presence already permeates your life. These include: biblical characters, day and night, silence, the virtues, and joy in another person’s good fortune. These, Wiederkehr suggests, are the kind of teachers who are the result of the flow of grace in your life. She encourages you to become aware of how they are at work in you and what you might learn from them. Each reflection begins with a scripture text leading you into the spirit of the week. A brief meditation on this scripture serves as a catalyst for the Word to take root in your heart and a closing prayer sums up the week. A teacher is suggested for you. The final quotation from a spiritual writer contains the spirit of your teacher and can assist you in embracing the wisdom of that teacher. Using this book as a year-long weekly guide can be an enriching opportunity to deepen and transform your faith life. #GoodReads #Catholic #Blind #SightLoss #Blindness #Disability #DIYRetreat #SpiritualRetreat #ReligiousRetreat #VisionLoss #VisuallyImpaired #CatholicChurch #Disabilities #SpecialNeeds #LegallyBlind #BrailleBooks #Braille #AveMariaPress
