There is an overwhelming amount of research demonstrating the many benefits of breathwork, from diaphragmatic breathing for better digestion, hypopressive techniques for healing birth related trauma and prolapse, or simply to tone the waist and deep core.There are high intensity breathing techniques coined by people like Wim Hoff or Holotropic breathing developed by Christina and Stanislav Grof, both techniques capable of inducing psychedelic states and used for rehabilitation for both mental and physical bodies. There are ways of breathing to overcome addiction and manage pain, improving confidence, stage presents and so much more. Breath work really is ago-to for anyone needing to ‘get back on track’ with a productive lifestyle and generally wake up motivated, energised, happy. All these benefits- without needing to leave the house, spend a dime or waste time on expensive therapies, massages or yoga classes (all lovely occasionally but I need that regularly when I’m training or getting back into training!) But like any technology (your body) when learning something new, it’s good to have a guide. I believe in ‘Educated Intuition’. I never just go on feel. For the past 10 years I’ve worked professionally with other peoples bodies and my own, performing, public speaking and facilitating as an advocate for self sufficient health and vitality! For me- that looks like a casual healthy posture and the ability for one to access ‘neural mindfulness’. I teach people this via breathwork. I finished reading this book on the weekend and I really feel like I achieved something! 😂 It was a complex, meaty read with a vast list of characters, and 756 pages long. Something I enjoy about reading a paper book is seeing the bookmark advance through the book as I read it, and this one especially so because the size of the book had put me off reading it in the past. But I did it! And it was a very enjoyable read. I'm actually quite proud of myself, because my memory, and ability to concentrate has been lacking, seriously lacking lately. I wondered if it might have something to do with menopause and I'm glad I looked it up (apparently it is very common with 60% of menopausal women experiencing it, and thankfully it is temporary although it can last ten years...) I'm just glad I don't have early onset dementia, and I'm deadly serious, I was very worried. I read that if you remember something, whether it's after two hours or five years, you are okay. Phew 😅 And one of the best things you can do is exercise, both mental and physical, and that reading is very good. Yay! So I will carry on reading (I am reading through my bookshelf at the moment), and also enjoy my walking and at-home Pilates (I call it my 'rich lady lifestyle' exercise so it's more appealing for me to do 🤣 It actually is enjoyable once I'm doing it, I just need help getting started sometimes 😊) Happy new week to you! xx Fiona PS. I want to keep fit and limber as I get older and have found an exercise routine I enjoy. Very strenuous exercises wear me out, make me feel shaky, and also hungrier. Gentler approaches work best for me. I went to a chiropractor last year for a cricked neck. When I asked, he suggested Pilates as an excellent exercise and said the core work really helps keep your back strong throughout your life. So I looked around on YouTube and found ‘Move With Nicole’ among others. I liked her workouts best so I've stuck with her for about six months now. I like to alternate a walk one day with Pilates the next, and I try for 2-3 times a week for each, mostly 2x each per week for 30 minutes. Walk, Pilates, walk, Pilates 😊 It doesn't seem 'enough' but I still do it. And when I've had longer, harder routines in the past, I've not wanted to do them. As you can see, I like to make a yoga studio type environment for myself, with candles and lamps, and the overhead lights off. It's so relaxing but I'm also getting a workout in. I feel rejuvenated and peaceful after a session with Nicole. So that's my simple exercise routine. Please let me know what you enjoy too 😊 xx Fiona PS.
