Becoming aware of the Danish architect Ib Lunding (1895-1983) some time ago was an eye-opener and really piqued my curiosity. I wanted to see what else he had accomplished. Here at the facinating apartment complex, Grønningen 7-9, Copenhagen. These apartments were completed 1936 and is also known by the name ‘The Champagnehouse’ due of the round windows in the stairwells that look like rising bubbles…
H.C. Ørsteds vej 54 Denne særegne bygning stod færdig i 1939 og er tegnet af Edvard Thomsen til dennes far, malermester Thomsen. Det markante funktionalistiske udtryk giver associationer til en af modernismens stormænd, Le Corbusier. I bygningens stueetage lå i mange år et postkontor, og de øvrige 3 etager rummede i alt otte et-og toværelses lejligheder. I eftertiden er pulterrum og vaskerum i bygningens tagetage blevet omdannet til en penthouselejlighed. Arkitekten siger: Med denne supermodernistiske bygning har Thomsen virkelig givet den gas! H.C. Ørsteds vej 54 må siges at være en fremmed fugl i nabolaget, med en super cool æstetik med glassten i facaden, elegante skrå altaner og trappetårnet som skiller sig ud både i form og farve. Spor fra brædderne, som har formet væggene, ses støbt ind i betonen, en detalje, som senere blev populær under den brutalistiske epoke. Farverne er dog typiske for den tidlige modernisme: hvid, blå, gul og sorte vinduesrammer. Rød er den eneste farve, der mangler for at fuldføre paletten fra De Stijl. Måske Thomsen her har været mere inspireret af de avantgardistiske strømninger fra Europa, med Bauhaus etc., end den mere beskedne nordiske funktionalisme der tager udgangspunkt i Stockholmsudstillingen 1930, som ellers var populær for tiden for opførelsen? Og måske vovede han at give den lidt ekstra gas fordi bygherren var hans egen far? Die Blockecken werden durch Treppenhäuser definiert, von denen eines als filigrane Konstruktion aus horizontalen Stahlbetonbügeln und feingliedrigen Glasscheiben gestaltet ist. Die Wohnanlage umfasste ursprünglich 86 Zwei- bis Dreizimmerwohnungen sowie vier Läden an der südöstlichen Blockecke. The apartment building in Berlin-Pankow was completed between 1924 and 1925 to plans by Erwin Gutkind for the German Garden City Society. The corners of the block are defined by staircases, one of which is a filigree construction of horizontal reinforced concrete brackets and filigree glass panels. The residential complex originally consisted of 86 two- to three-room apartments and four shops at the southeast corner of the block.

🏢 Hotel del Parque (1940) Ing. Juan José Barragán Jesús Garibi Velasco Av. Juárez 845, #Guadalajara Obra del hermano de Luis Barragan, con rasgos de una arquitectura #ArtDéco tardía y Racionalista. Destaca mucho su acceso y su torre cilíndrica en esquina, la cual es la conexión vertical a los pisos superiores, así como su remate. De la escalera interna me gusta mucho porque tiene bastante detalle y además es continua, dándole ese toque de efecto aerodinámico que existía en esta etapa del art Déco. El hotel está intervenido, ya que antes existía unas letras que estaban “volando” la banqueta y además se le añadió posteriormente un nivel, respetando el remate central existente y subiéndolo a la nueva planta. Juan José Barragan es muy poco frecuente cuando hablamos de historia de la arquitectura mexicana, su obra no es sonada fuera de Guadalajara, al igual que su hermano Luis estudió ingeniería en dicha ciudad. Llegaron a trabajar juntos en el Parque Revolución y muchas de sus obras se encuentran en el centro y la Americana. A diferencia de su hermano, Juan José se limitó a replicar arquitectura de su época y repetir patrones ya establecidos, desde edificios eclécticos, californianos y del Movimiento Moderno. A diferencia de la obra de Luis levantada en estos años las cuales poseen muchos rasgos del mediterráneo así como la evolución de su estilo de los años 30s. Sin embargo, me parece prudente hacer una pausa y no caer en comparativos de quien hizo más o quien tuvo un mejor estilo. A 1965 modernist Rietveld style chair made by retired architect Aad Gerts in his younger years at the school where he studied Visual Arts at a Rotterdam University. Obviously an ode to Gerrit Rietvelds' Berlin chair. In good state, stable and does have some signs of the time which makes it an interesting and inspiring piece. Great for styling. My objects are interpretable and interpret. This refers not only to their users but above all to their creation. They repeatedly interpret their own idea in various perspectives, media, possibilities, materials, so that the two- and/or three-dimensional objects that arise in this process are interim results, snapshots of a particular interpretation. Xenia Petrischenko calls them “Interpretables,” a term I have adopted. Just purchased this minimalist Swedish pinewood mushroom table, designed in the 1960s by Martin Åberg for Servex. (We also bought some matching stools, which we’ll show you later.) Honestly, we don’t know much about Åberg, but we’re obviously familiar with the Servex waste bin. This table is essentially just a round plywood tabletop resting on an unusually tall waste bin. The stools are a bit more elaborate. At first, we couldn’t decide if it was ridiculous or brilliant. However, after a while, we couldn’t help but fall in love with this minimalist design. The works that result from my creative process are interpretations of the original idea. Since it is an open process thatalways reflects itself, it develops consciously, but does not pursue a predefined goal. Hand sketches, digital models, renderings, color layers, textures, contexts, model photos etc. are projected, combined, deformed, alienated so that new perspectives, new findings of the initial idea can be obtained. For example, the projection of a 3D model onto an 2D image surface in a different spatial context can lead to a reinterpretation of the initial idea, which in turn creates a new 3D object. Det Grønne Funkishus - Ndr. Fasanvej/Guldborgvej Denne grønne bebyggelse beliggende på Frederiksberg er tegnet af arkitekt Hans Dahlerup Berthelsen og stod klar i 1932. De to huse, der er opført på hver sin side af en smal gård, er bygget efter udenlandske forbillede, de er stålskelet konstruktioner, hvilket sparede ydermuren for hele 46 cm. Byggeriet levede op til Frederiksberg Kommunes forskrifter, men i Københavns Kommune fandt man efter sigende byggemetoden uforsvarlig.* Værd at notere sig er da også, at huset var det første etageboligbyggeri i Danmark med en bærende stålskelet-konstruktion indmuret i facaderne.** Arkitekten siger: Farven er ret usædvanlig, men formsproget, med vinduer i lange horisontale vinduesbånd og med spinkle rammer, er typiske for tredivernes funkis. Bygningen har næsten noget centraleuropæisk over sig. Anvendelsen af jern til vinduerne muliggør de spinkle rammer. Man har i eftertiden valgt at sætte forsatsrammer på vinduerne, hvilket gør det muligt at beholde de spinkle vinduer og dermed bygningens udtryk. Karnapperne giver bevægelse til de nærmest minimalistiske facader. Bygningen har en effektfuld farve- og materialepalette, som helt klart lever efter devisen “less is more”. Det er uklart, om portgennemgangene altid har været rød-orange, men jeg er i hvert fald stor fan af tiltaget! Historikeren siger: Den arkitekturinteresserede frederiksbergenser vil måske have opdaget, at Dahlerup Berthelsen var en ganske populær herre på 1930’ernes Frederiksberg. Udover det grønne funkishus tegnede han desuden store dele af Fuglebakkekvarteret (1930), Grundtvigs Have (1932), de kubistiske dobbeltvillaer på Emanuel Olsens vej (1933), Lindevangsgården (1933) og ikke mindst kæmpekomplekset Hostrup Have (1935-36). When it comes to 2D work, these are essentially screenshots from my design process, which is like using a sketchbook. I often pause when I find something interesting, then print it out and experiment with it on different materials and projections to see if it works. I then further develop it into a three-dimensional object, which is projected again. This process involves cutting, processing, sketching, and so on. It’s a dynamic process that continuously interprets itself, which is the essence of “interpretables” – it’s not just about function, but also about considering how to utilize the creation effectively.
