Plateelbakkerij Zuid Holland 1929, ontwerp Leen Muller. Ondanks de ingrijpende plateelstakingen in Nederland en de daaropvolgende wereldwijde beurskrach gaat de creativiteit van Leen Muller continu en in hoog tempo verder. Het is tussen 1929 en 1930 wanneer Leen Muller (dan hoofd van de afdeling kunstnijverheid van de Plateelfabriek Zuid Holland) de 2300-serie ontwerpt. Een serie sier-aardewerk opgebouwd uit voornamelijk 5-hoekige vormen en ingesnoerde cirkels. De serie bevat relatief eenvoudig gedecoreerde keramiek en een aantal meer complexe decoratie-ontwerpen en bestaat uit schalen en vazen. Naar stukken uit de betreffende serie kijk ik al lang uit, maar vermoedelijk zijn de oplages niet groot geweest. In 1930 genereerde de Fabriek als gevolg van de stakingen en het inzakken van de beurs nog maar één derde van de omzet van de jaren vóór 1929. Der Werdegang der aufstrebenden Künstlerin Lena Kaapke wird von beachtenswerten Auszeichnungen begleitet. So wurde die konzeptionelle Bildhauerin, die sich auf installative zeitgenössische Keramik spezialisiert hat, mit dem Kunstpreis des Landes Schleswig-Holstein (2016) (Förderpreis), der höchsten Auszeichnung für zeitgenössische Kunst des Landes, geehrt. Unter anderem ging auch der Kunstpreis der Diözese Rottenburg (2. Preis) an Lena Kaapke, sowie der Landesschaupreis des Berufsverbandes der Bildenden Künstlerinnen und Künstler Schleswig Holsteins und der Kulturpreis der Stadt Kiel (Förderpreis). Laine has achieved worldwide acclaim not only as an illustrator but also as a glass artist. Her glass creations offer an intriguing glimpse of emerging fresh trends in international glass art. Laine has worked for notable clients including Vogue Japan and other well-known fashion publications and cosmetics brands. She has exhibited her art in Tokyo, New York, London, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Helsinki. The theme of her new glass sculptures and paintings on show at the Finnish Glass Museum is the vanitas genre and the Golden Age of Dutch and Flemish still life painting. Laura Laine has been exploring the still life genre in her glass art for many years. Various still life motifs are identifiable in her slightly surrealistic, organic forms. Her seed pods, thistle thorns and frozen marine creatures are reminiscent of motifs found 17th century still life paintings. The surfaces of her inanimate objects swarm with flies and snails. Frozen, already-vanished moments melt together with the ongoing decomposition of organic matter. Gradually, flesh and substance perish, revealing only bare bones.
