Thank you, @owenthomashatherley for this one: Craston House in Denmark Hill by Arthur Korn, a German-Jewish Modernist architect and urban planner, who taught at the Architectural Association in London from 1945 for over 20 years. Craston House was built in 1935-8, during Korn’s short association with FRS Yorke: it is, Owen says, Korn’s only remaining building in the UK - but, with its expressed concrete frame and brick infill, about 20 years ahead of very similar brutalist blocks, very often maisonettes, dotted around London not only by the LCC and GLC but also various boroughs, for instance Lambeth. Korn lived in one of the flats and was also arrested there in 1939: he was interned in the Isle of Man for 18 months, on account of his German citizenship and perceived Communist sympathies. This entry for a national competition to design Argentina's National Library was won in 1961 but not completed until thirty years later, stymied by the country's military dictatorship and changing governments. The design was a collaborative project by Clorindo Testa, Francisco Bullrich and Alicia Cazzaniga. Though some details from the original scheme were lost during the building´s delay, it explores many prevailing themes of architecture of the 1960´s. These include the emphatic cantilever seen in the reading rooms, the principal volume raised on robust, pilotis, and the unabashed expression of sculptural and structural qualities available through precast reinforced concrete. A brutal day out at the Glen Park station in San Francisco, part of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. It was designed by architects Corlett + Spackman and Ernest Born and opened in 1973.
