We are thrilled to share that Oxford’s beloved 'Jam Factory' is to be given a new lease of life as an interactive coffee roastery open to the public as a space to learn all about and enjoy the nation’s favourite pick-me-up. This stunning Grade II listed building dates back to 1903 when it was purpose-built for Frank Cooper’s marmalade business and has since evolved through several incarnations, most recently a treasured arts venue and café. Having been closed and empty for some time, much in need of repair and restoration, we carefully steered the proposals for the property through planning, taking a collaborative approach with the planning team and our clients. We’re confident the results are going to be a real boon for the city, with the public once again able to enjoy this iconic Oxford venue while sipping their favourite brew and also having the exceptional chance to witness the inner workings of a coffee roastery. It’s a real honour to be part of this project with Colombia Coffee Roasters and have the opportunity to renovate a space that has such a special place in the heart of the city. This vernacular brick building is located at 77th & Park in downtown Ralston. It appears that it was built as an apartment building with street-level commercial space. I got a look inside the 29-story Sterick Building the other day, built in 1929 and once the tallest building in Memphis. The Sterick has been vacant since the 1980s, but local development firm Constellation Properties has plans to redevelop it for residential and retail use. Wandering through the tower, you can still catch glimpses of how it used to be filled with offices, a bank and small businesses like a jewelry store, a dental office and a barber shop. "It's history, as a great country house, associated with men famous in their country's story, the rich treasures of art which they have enshrined in it, and the extremely interesting gardens with which they have embellished it, all constitute sources of attraction which few great houses can surpass." Country Life, 1905. 🏰🌳 Once part of the Royal Forest of Chippenham, Bowood House, Wiltshire, was begun by the Bridgeman family in 1725, before being purchased in 1754 by John Petty Fitzmaurice, 1st Earl of Shelburne, who hired architect Henry Keene to complete the house. The 2nd Earl, who became the 1st Marquess of Lansdowne, employed Robert Adam to work on the houses interiors and 'Capability' Brown to landscape the park in the 1760s. At this time, there were two buildings that made up the one house, the Little House and the Big House, joined by a Drawing Room. The 3rd Marquess restored Bowood, but the 19th and 20th centuries were tough on the families finances, and, with large death duties following the death in action of the 7th Marquess and his brother in 1944, the 'Big House' at Bowood was demolished in 1955, leaving only the 'Little House' which is today home to the 9th Marquess and his family. 🥀🌳 Descendants of Oliver Cromwell's Physician-General, the Petty-Fitzmaurice's have long been at the heart of the British establishment: the 1st Marquess briefly served as Prime Minister and negotiated peace with America following the War of Independence; the 3rd Marquess was Chancellor of the Exchequer, served under 8 Prime Ministers and was a close confidant of Queen Victoria; and the 5th Marquess served throughout the Empire as Governor-General of Canada and Viceroy of India, and at home as Secretary of State for War and Foreign Secretary. The current Marquess has been heavily involved in local politics and his wife, Fiona, is one of the Queen's Companions and served her at the Coronation in 2023. 👑 🇬🇧

Highlighting MREJ Award Winner - Mission Lofts🎉 Joyce Memorial Church in Uptown, Minneapolis is a historic California Mission Revival style Church built in 1907 by architects Harry Downs and Harold Eads. In partnership with Northland Real Estate Group, the Mission Lofts residential development was crafted from this grand, historic structure. DJR was able to facilitate placing the Church on the register of protected landmarks by the local Historic Preservation Council in 2020. From there, we had the challenge of creating 35 micro and one-bedroom apartments while maintaining the protected historic features and bringing the building up to code. The units were strategically distributed between three floors - even the bell towers were utilized for dwelling units. Each unit has a unique floor plan, with carefully distributed stained glass windows and historic features. Where windows didn’t align with units, additional glazing was added to the alley and rear walls of the building for additional daylighting while maintaining the historic façade’s character. Green cabinetry, fresh lighting, and modern appliances make these units functional and attractive for the modern resident. Residents of the village of Bishop Hill worry state funding may not come in time to save the community's unique 19th century Swedish-American heritage. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources [IDNR] is responsible for maintaining four buildings there. That includes the Bishop Hill Colony Church, which was listed Tuesday as one of the state's top 10 most endangered historic places by Landmarks Illinois. The Shawneetown Bank and Alexander Buel House State Historic Sites also are on the list. Bishop Hill was founded as a religious commune in 1846, lasting around 15 years before the colony's dissolution. Today, just a smidge over 100 people call the Henry County village home. For the first time in hundreds of years the iconic Bodenhams retail department store located in Ludlow is up for sale with Halls Commercial, with an asking price exceeding £1 million. Prominently located at the junction of Broad Street, King Street and Market Street, the Grade 2 listed, three storey building, which also has a basement, has a total net internal floor area of 3,495 square feet. 【昇天日(5月9日)の日記】 仕事辭し歸れば吾にすり寄れる貓二匹ゐる曻天日けふ 仕事、けふで最後。けふはもう私服で挨拶に行っただけ。 元々奈良に引っ越すまでの短期のつもりではあったが、予定より少し早めに上がらせて貰った。 楽しいバイトで人間関係も悪くなかったのだが、やはり発達障害持ちには少ししんどかったのだ😅 ということで、13時過ぎには帰宅。 それから車🚗で周と新開地に行った。 ①湊川公園の公共駐車場🅿️に止めて、「神戸の台所」と呼ばれている長大な商店街を散策。有名な鼻知場商店で50円の冷やし飴を飲んだ。生姜🫚が効いていて美味しい😋 ②ミナエンビルの案内板。無茶苦茶昭和テイストである。 ③昔ながらの名画座、「パルシネマしんこうえん」。新開地は大阪の新世界、東京の浅草と並ぶ盛り場だったのだ。今も何軒か映画館が残っている。寄席も大衆演劇の劇場もある。 ④湊川公園の下、湊川トンネル。高架ではなく、トンネルなのだ。天井川だった湊川の下を掘り抜いたのである。 ⑤商店街にはドムドムハンバーガー🍔もある。 ⑥近代建築の焼鳥屋として名高い「八榮亭」。 ⑦単立のプロテスタント教会、湊川伝道館。 ⑧新開地にはドヤもある。三和ホテル、50円値上がりしていた。 ⑨一昨日も書いたが、神戸は日本一華僑・華人が多い街である。華僑一世が裸一貫で外国の街にたどり着いた時に何で身を立てるか？ 三把刀という言葉がある。刃物を使用する料理人(包丁)、理髪師(剃刀など)、仕立屋(鋏)の三つの職業が多かった。故に神戸の理髪店💈は華僑系が多い。このお店もそうなのだろう。メーは梅さんか？ ⑩実は近代建築である、神鉄電車湊川駅。 帰宅後、父がパソコン💻の調子が悪いというので実家に行き、一緒に今津の山田電気に行ったら、10分ほどで直してくれた。 夜、天然温泉掛け流しのお風呂屋さん「浜田温泉♨️」に行って帰宅後にやっと日記を書いているので、日付が変わってしまった。しかも自撮り🤳忘れてるし🤪 #kobe #shinkaichi #minatogawa #retro #market #softdrink #church #oldbuilding #historicbuilding #gay #lgbtq #lgbt #historicarchitecture #oldarchitecture #ascensionday #神戸 #新開地 #湊川 #レトロ #昭和感 #教会 #近代建築 #短歌 #歌人 #詩 #冷やし飴 #ひやしあめ #天井川 #映画館 #名画座

All that remains of New Ing farm in the valley of Wet Sleddale on the eastern edge of the Lake District. The property first appears in parish records when Thomas Noble of New Ing was buried in Shap churchyard in April 1718. The Noble family owned the property for most of its history, appearing in every census from 1841-1901. Charles Noble was living here in 1904 when Joseph Whiteside, vicar of Shap, visited and wrote up his encounter for his book “Shap in Bygone Days” as follows: ‘New Ing, with its diminutive windows, is one of the quaintest houses in the parish. Inside is a long settle, inscribed with the date 1701. The Nobles are an ancient family, long resident here’. The end came in 1919 when the farm along with several others in the valley was compulsory purchased to make way for Wet Sleddale Reservoir to supply water to Manchester. New Ing is actually above the waterline so avoided being submerged and was still standing to full height during my childhood.
