In particular, what I see in common is the use of unusual angles, industrial materials, and interior courtyards surrounded by levels stacked on top of levels. Picture 1 is Adam's lair for the villain Stromberg, as seen in the James Bond movie "the Spy Who Loved Me." Picture 2 shows the roof of Norman Foster's Hongkong and Shanghai Bank headquarters in Hong Kong from 1985. Picture 3 from Dr. No shows Adam's conception of Fort Knox, which has a lot of the vertiginous quality of the interior of the HSBC Building (picture 4), as well as Richard Rogers' Lloyds Bank Building in London (pictures 5 and 6). I am going to show you some of the work of movie production designer Ken Adam, who created sets for many of the early James Bond films and Dr. Strangelove, among others. I had been struck by a coincidental similar visual feel between his work and the residences of Henry and Alyce Kaiser. Adam's designs also influenced architects such as Richard Rogers and Norman Foster, who I have featured recently. Picture 1 and 2 show Adam's work on the 1962 James Bond movie Dr. No. The stark quality of the room is enlivened by an circular skylight and a mysterious wooden chair on a platform. (The chair looks somewhat like a Nakashima, but it is not one of theirs). Picture 3 shows the entrance to the Canary Wharf station in the London Underground, designed by Norman Foster and completed in 1999, where a skylight creates a similar effect. This poster is ultra rare, we have only ever seen one in Japan and currently there are none for sale on globally. This poster is impossible find in any condition, let alone in fantastic condition. It is a highly prized collectors item. It is a must have for any serious collector or fan of James Bond. This almost 5′ tall STB poster features fantastic artwork. The tatekan STB format had much lower print numbers compared to regular Japanese B2s. They are very rare, especially for more popular film titles, and are highly sought after by collectors today. Most 007 posters are about women, martinis and cars. This poster is one of a rare few that focus on the “License to Kill” side of things. Released in 1962 Dr. No was the first time anyone ever saw a James Bond film. The film was directed by Terence Young and stars Sean Connery and Ursula Andress.
