Did I tell you that I hate sewing tulle? Every time I sew with it I always say never again, but as the old saying goes "never say never". I've had this tulle cut up and sitting in my sewing room for quite sometime waiting for me to make underskirts for my market dress stands (my stands are timber and the underskirt puffs the dresses out to showcase the fullness of the skirts.). So today was the day, I bit the bullet and battled the tulle. Fortunately as the underskirts are hidden I didn't have to be too fussy. Looking closely at this photo, you can see he wears different socks and shoes. Not because of his fashion sense. This photo was taken in 1912, when Jim, a Native American from Oklahoma, represented the United States in athletics at the Olympics that summer. On the morning of the match, his shoes were stolen. Luckily, Jim found two different shoes in a trash can. Those are the two shoes he is wearing in the photo. But one of those shoes was a little too big, so he had to put on a few more socks. Some interesting history …..👍 “When she applied to run in the Boston Marathon in 1966 they rejected her saying: “Women are not physiologically able to run a marathon, and we can’t take the liability.” Then exactly 50 years ago today, on the day of the marathon, Bobbi Gibb hid in the bushes and waited for the race to begin. When about half of the runners had gone past she jumped in. She wore her brother’s Bermuda shorts, a pair of boy’s sneakers, a bathing suit, and a sweatshirt. As she took off into the swarm of runners, Gibb started to feel overheated, but she didn’t remove her hoodie. “I knew if they saw me, they were going to try to stop me,” she said. “I even thought I might be arrested.” It didn’t take long for male runners in Gibb’s vicinity to realize that she was not another man. Gibb expected them to shoulder her off the road, or call out to the police. Instead, the other runners told her that if anyone tried to interfere with her race, they would put a stop to it. Finally feeling secure and assured, Gibb took off her sweatshirt. As soon as it became clear that there was a woman running in the marathon, the crowd erupted—not with anger or righteousness, but with pure joy, she recalled. Men cheered. Women cried. By the time she reached Wellesley College, the news of her run had spread, and the female students were waiting for her, jumping and screaming. The governor of Massachusetts met her at the finish line and shook her hand. This is a Sunrise Tulip. I planted them in 2007 and they were my very favorite thing to bloom in my garden all year long. About 4 or 5 years ago, just before the blooms opened, an animal came and devoured them. Since then, they hadn't bloomed at all, but this year there's one! My favorite memory will always be running the Athens marathon. That love led me to Modere. I love sharing my favorite health and nutrition supplements. ⭐️I love Jesus. ✝️ I was lost without him. I find my greatest peace and joy comes from walking with His Words of truth as my daily guide. I’m not actually great at a lot of things- but thanks to His grace, I sure get to try my best every day. ⭐️ I love my friends. I love people in general.
