This is the Venini Glass Shop that Bond goes into in as he is trying to uncover Drax’s master plan. My photo is from a trip there in 2010 so the canopy seen in the movie is long gone. Exactly one year ago, during our TOUR OF JAPAN, we had the pleasure of listening to Mr Ichiro Miyauchi in the remote fishing village of Akime. He explained how HE had been responsible for the idea and making of the beautiful monument that celebrates the filming of You Only Live Twice there in 1966. He even reached out to EON Productions, who eventually green-lighted the monument, which bears the carved out signatures of Sean Connery, Tetsuro Tamba and Cubby Broccoli. Yesterday I learned that Mr Miyauchi had sadly passed away. A Travel Tuesday memory from the One & Only Ocean Club from Casino Royale. It is now under new ownership and is called The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort. If you happened to visit the resort up to about seven years after Casino Royale finished filming you might have noticed that the decor in the room where they played poker was mostly the same as it was in the movie with an exception being the poker card table. The poker area was set-up specifically for the poker scene. Probably most recognizable is the painting on the wall with the books and gold sphere that is visible in the movie was still hanging on the wall. Nothing stays the same forever and the current decor at the resort is more Bond themed with photos of the various actors and actresses from both Bond and non-Bond roles lining the bookcases around the room. Seems Bond actor rumor day has reared its head again today but it’s really Travel Tuesday so let’s check out this great location from You Only Live Twice. The New Otani Hotel was the stand-in for Osato Chemicals. We see Bond get into the building posing as an incapacitated assassin of Mr. Henderson. Once inside Bond proceeds to break into the safe and narrowly escape after all the alarms go off. We later see Mr. Osato’s helicopter land on the roof of the building for his meeting with Bond who is now posing as Mr. Fisher. The hotel is fantastic and definitely worth staying at if you are in Tokyo. A Travel Tuesday memory from way back in January 2012 in Key West, Florida. I decided to escape winter to enjoy some warm weather and also check out some Bond locations while I was there. I climbed the skinny spiral staircase all the way to the top of the Key West Lighthouse. The lighthouse is seen in License To Kill although we don’t see this vantage point in the movie. The Hemingway House is off to the right in the photo although tree growth over the years has it mostly hidden from view. We see a sniper standing in this location as Bond is walking across the upper balcony of The Hemingway House to see M and ultimately resign so he could go off on a revenge mission.
