Not just some seeds and a cat… We were all driving home from Inverness a few years ago (after watching my incredible husband perform for the last time in the amazing Orphans) I was looking out the window at all the farms we were passing. I was thinking about my garden and how much healing and happiness the flowers have brought me, wondering where I was going creatively now that felt authentic and the thought hit me. Could I have a farm to grow my flowers? Queue lightbulb moment. I got excited right there in the passenger seat and started to search for flower farms, if it was even a thing?? First thing that came up? Erin @floretflower The rest is history (probably not far enough in history for my husband who had to hear about it the whole four hours home). Since then I’ve grown everything under the sun and tried (unsuccessfully) to breed my own pastel toned zinnias and celosia, trying to replicate that gorgeous palette they have across the pond. For the first time Floret original seeds became available via @alma.proust a few days ago and here they are!!! I’m unbelievably excited to try them, a challenge for me as our Scottish climate isn’t the best for them but if I’m giving it my all it’s for those @floretflower colourways. Somehow it’s Friday again!! I’ve had helpers this week in the form of small unwell children who have been taking it in turns to succumb to whatever it is that’s going about. It’s been so lovely (for me) to have them by my side, precious little bits of extra quality time with my girls. We’ve planted out nearly 300 new dahlias, lots and lots of little plants have found their roots in deep soil, we’ve been up early for slug patrol, cleared the polytunnel ranunculus beds and replanted them with new crops, cut over 1,000 stems, sorted through every single one checking it for ultimate beauty and delivered those beautiful stems in various forms (wholesale, by the bucket and lovingly arranged into posies by my fair hand, disclaimer, my hands? Not so fair) AND we’ve been making lots of progress in the new growing space The Secret Garden. She was right, the crumpled shape of the vessel is in sympathy with the layered petals of the tulips. They also look good in this corrugated ombré vase I made at pottery class. From here to November, it's roses all the way! Yes, I do know about peonies & dahlias, but they just don't compare, I have rose favouritism. The first ones went out last week & I'll be filling buckets of beauty till the end of my season. I'll also be doing lots of rose care, feeding & watering, quality comes with effort! It also comes from patience & giving the plants the chance to mature. Jam jars Pretty from every angle 😍 Jam jars are a great way to get your own mini arrangement with a wider variety of flowers as they don’t require long stems. I like to use them with lots of single flowers or the same variety in different colours instead of repeating the same. They look absolutely lovely on a bed side table. These two went out to two of my lovely regular customers this morning. I’ll have more this weekend coming - Saturday 18th.
