My Miracle Wine Tour group had an extraordinary day at Dirk Niepoort’s Port Lodge. This is an incredibly unique and fascinating wine experience. Saw a Lalique bottle of 1863 Port. Only six were bottled and one sold for 140,000 euros. We had a taste of the future and the past, today, from our entertaining guide Jose. Stunned by the 1890 (no typo) Madeira. I guessed it was 1969s. Only missed by 80 years. Dirk Niepoort is a genuine maverick in the best way possible. Lots of smiling faces, today. Founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham, Graham’s Port quickly became known as a producer of exceptional ports. A nice bottle of Churchill’s Finest Vintage Character Port Unfortunately the wine was a little cloudy, but still had a deep red colour. Fortunately the port tasted fine, lots of well rounded fruit, rich red berries with a hint of dryness. Good balance of alcohol and tannins. Very drinkable. Should we give the opportunity to certain Rosé Wines to age like we do to Whites and Reds? - Quanta Terra Phenomena Rosé 2022 - Quanta Terra Phenomena Rosé 2021 - Quanta Terra Phenomena Rosé 2020 - Quinta dos Avidagos Reserva Rosé 2018 - Quinta da Barca 'Busto' Rosé 2014 - RCV Quinta do Cidrô Rosé 2010 - RCV Quinta do Cidrô Rosé 2007 ... they all clearly said we should... So, bring them on to meal time.. no fear whatsoever!!! Big discussion and debate throughout the weekend on Rosé Colour: should Douro, and other Portuguese regions by the way, for all that matters, should be so obssesed with 'Provence' Colour, or should they return to making our traditional dark coloured Rosés? Comercial and Sales demands are a big obstacle in this discussion, nevertheless Provence Sales are decreasing.. so?! What should we do?! 🤷♂️ Also a very curious question came up?! Is it possible that the resurgence of 'Clarets' and 'Palhetes' wines is dued to the blank space left open by the Producers who all went out in a urge making Provence coloured Rosés?! I certainly believe so.. which can also points us the way that there is certainly a demand and space for dark coloured Rosé wines, the way We 🇵🇹 used to do it.. So 🤷♂️ 😉 And, finally.. What about not always using the transparent glass bottle for Rosé Wine?
