TIANA COUDRAY AND CANCARAS GIRL TAKE THE FINAL SPOT IN THE TOP THREE AFTER DAY 1 The last horse and rider to finish in the top three for today’s dressage was the American rider, Tiana Coudray, with the fourteen-year-old Holstein mare, Cancaras Girl. The team finished less than one penalty below Boyd Martin and Tsetserleg TSF with 29.8 penalties. Badminton 2024 is Tiana’s first Badminton in ten years. The British-based rider rode her last Badminton Trials in 2014 and this was only her second completion following her debut the previous year. Tiana was part of the USA team for the 2012 London Olympics. Cancaras Girl, or Cara, was bought off a Facebook post with production and sale in mind, and now, years later, she is still with Team Coudray. She arrived as a five-year-old and clearly took a liking to her new career; she went from BE100 to 2* in just three months! The now fourteen-year-old Holstein mare is the daughter of Cancara, as her name suggests. Cancara is a stallion son of the legendary Cassini I. Cassini I has stamped his son with his appearance and talent. Cancara’s mother, Lacosta, is from the stem 162. This stem is one of the most successful mare families, producing horses like Carthago Z and Canturo. At his 70-day performance test in 2009, Cancara scored a full ten out of ten for his jumping ability. In her post-dressage interview with Horse and Hound, Tiana was clearly happy with her mare: “She gave me everything I could have gotten out of her. Round 3 of the GKL: UK was at Clay Pigeon this past weekend and the Driven By Us Academy had 4 drivers participating. Nina Ferreira, Jotham Ampofo-Anim, Aaron Mensah and Babacar Samb. The Junior Lights race was held on Saturday the 4th with perfect weather with Jotham making his debut appearance as a Junior driver. Jothams performance was really impressive given the limited time he had to learn to drive a new electric kart and the results demonstrate the potential of this young teenager. Jotham qualified 11th out of 19 drivers, but his persistence, speed and race craft ensured he finished 5th in the race. Sunday the 5th was Junior Race day and we had very changeable weather conditions; 3 seasons in the space of 6 hours! The track was greasy and all DBU Academy drivers initially struggled to adapt in the karts as this was a new experience for all of them. By the end of the practice sessions in the morning, they had all clearly learnt how to handle the kart in greasy conditions , on slick tyres, and were moving up the grid. Babacar attended his first ever race with GKL and really impressed in his ability to learn and adapt quickly, Nina was equally impressive, is a natural fighter on the grid and never gave up. Aaron, the more experienced driver adapted later in the day with impressive qualifying. For the final race, we had drier conditions with a few incidents. All DBU drivers performed well and finished 5th, 7th and 12th in the end. #Racing #Motorsport #Karting #STEM #podium
