Celebrating Aura Parker’s Bowerbird Blues x National Simultaneous Storytime 🐦💙🩵 Bowerbird searches for items of blue for his vibrant collection of bits and pieces in cobalt, sapphire, and ultramarine. But he feels the pull towards something greater. Is it the azure of the sky, the deep blue of the ocean, or something else entirely? Written with a glorious use of language and illustrated in lush tones in traditional watercolour and digital techniques, this clever and heartwarming story includes rich themes of collection and connection, and a subtle reminder of the human impact on animal habitats with items of rubbish featured in the illustrations of the bush and the sea. This picture book provides a stunning look at the life of the bowerbird and as with Aura’s previous titles about the animal world, there’s more fun to be had with the seek-and-hide details in the endpapers. •BOWERBIRD BLUES •Written and illustrated by Aura Parker •Designed by Hannah Janzen •Published by Scholastic Press, 2023 @auraparker @hannahjanzen_ @scholastic_au #bowerbirdblues #mypicturebookheart #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookoftheday #picturebooklibrary #picturebookstagram #picturebooksofinstagram #childrensbooks #childrensbookstagram #booksforkids #kidsbookstagram #readtokids #teachersofinstagram #teachersofig #teachnsw

By the look of this photo, you wouldn’t know that 5 min before, my son was having a “Top 10” epic meltdown. I honestly can’t even remember what this one was about, but I’m sure it was along the lines of his sister not sharing a rock, sock, block, or seashell or something else that seems ridiculous to the outside eye... As parents, it’s easy to get frustrated when kids don’t share or bicker over the silliest things, which can then escalate quickly to a full out meltdown. It’s a fine balance of letting kids try to sort things out for themselves but also being nearby to help offer suggestions before the proverbial S hits the fan. Kids have to learn somewhere, and it’s our job as parents to model the behavior we want them to emulate and teach them tools to work through challenges, tough feelings, and social situations. We try to give our kids practice and tools ahead of time for sharing, taking turns, handling disagreements, staying calm, talking it out, etc., but they don’t always take our advice and/or emotions sometimes take over... In this case, after emotions escalated quickly, it was time to try something else. For my son, it helps for me to hold him as we do deep breaths together as he is still learning to regulate his feelings and breathing. My staying calm and him sensing my calm is the first step. I used the 5-4-3-2-1 Technique (one of our favorites coping skills on the website) to redirect, help regain control of his breaths, and turn on the upstairs brain again (more on that in another post soon!). Once he had his breathing under control, we were able to talk about what happened, what he was feeling, why he was upset, (validating his emotions in the process), and how he could handle it differently next time. We talked through some of his favorite coping skills until we found one he settled on (the horse breaths). He then surprised me and brought me the Eli Elephant book and said, “Mommy read Eli to me please.” So that’s what we did. At the end we talked through and practiced the steps in the back of the book for working through emotions now that he was calm again. What I’ve learned is there’s no magic trick for working through emotions… read 👇🏻

📖 #FelicitàNeAvete? Sometimes little kindness can make a big difference. Accept the kindness and response sometimes offers opportunities and open the possibilities. In the story, conflicts never solve the tension between the witch and the forest animal. An invitation presenting a good gesture, provide a beginning for the change in their relationship. The witch gave herself an opportunity when she accept the invitation and attend the party. Even she suspected it’s a fake invitation and hesitated, she went anyway. Dressed up and untangled the hair. The badger invite the witch to dance and the witch didn’t turn it down. The series of kindness and attempt open up a possibility to ease the tension and to build the connection. After connected and the perception changed, what was before seem doesn’t matter anymore. If I were the badger, would I have the kindness to invite the witch to the party and invite her to dance? If I were the witch, would I brave enough to go to the party? 2024 第五篇 🖋 #LisaBiggi #莉莎碧姬 illustrated by #MonicaBarengo #莫妮卡貝瑞 #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookoftheday #picturebookart #picturebooklove #picturebookblogger #picturebooksofinstagram #picturebooklibrary #childrenbook

If intergenerational picture books are your jam, this sweet new release is for you. My favorite part of my grandparents’ visits from the Dominican Republic was always the many treats they would bring for us, mostly sweet delights you would never find in NYC. In A Maleta Full of Treasures we meet a young girl named Dulce who feels similarly about her abuela’s visits. Her visits came with suitcases full of treasures for her to enjoy. What I love most about the story, though, is how when it’s time for Abuela’s departure, Dulce wants to help fill it up with treasures to take back home and share with her extended family. When you have extended families that are separated by borders an important part of being reunited again is bringing treasures back and forth for not only everyone to enjoy but to remember you by when you are separated again. The little things that remind us that we will love and remember one another no matter how far apart we are. #gifted

#Repost @felizreading ・・・ How To Stuff a Piñata is an adorable fairytale like ode to the ever popular… PIÑATA! It’s prologue teaches us that the origins of the piñata are still unclear, but it seems to be “a fusion of Chinese, Spanish, Aztec, and Mexican cultural, religious, and artistic traditions.” But to kids (and adults) a piñata is just plain fun! My one and only son will be 10 years old next month and it’s got me reflecting on what a wild ride the last 10 years have been.  And reading this book, in this exact moment, is a physical reminder of not just everything I feel for him, but the many things I wish for him. Written and dedicated to the author’s two daughters, May You Love and Be Loved is a love letter to all the things we wish the future brings to our children.  It beautifully encapsulates what we all want for them - for them to live lives where love rains on them that they can then share with others.  And that this love leads to a life full of adventure.   If you are a parent, this one’s for you.  Just be warned, you won’t get through it without shedding a tear or two. #gifted

Forming friendships is such an important part of childhood. But making friends isn’t always so easy- especially when you move to a new school in the middle of the year. Anzu’s teacher welcomes her with a lesson on origami, her favorite hobby. But her classmates laugh at the seemingly easy task. She tries to teach them how to do it correctly, but they just want to do things their way. Ojiisan reminds her that friendships and origami take time, and she needs to be patient. Anzu tries again, but reaches frustration level when her classmate wants to use scissors for origami! Anzu misses her old friends and really begins to question if she belongs at this new school. Until finally one student listens to her advice and together they make a hopping origami frog! She teaches her classmates their Japanese names and the symbolism behind each origami shape. Slowly, the children begin to fold amazing origami creations and Anzu is there to help anyone that needs her assistance. She knows just how to fold each origami shape. The illustrations are colorful and inviting. This book makes you want to create your own beautiful origami. I loved this story of friendship and perseverance. By working together and persevering the students were able to learn a new skill and make new friends. In today’s high tech world, what a soothing and inviting activity is origami? I’ve tried a few origami projects with my students. Some do reach frustration level, but I’m always astounded with how they step up and help each other. And at the end they are so proud of their creation! A curious frog ventures out to meet the creatures living nearby. While startled by their responses, the frog remains ever-cheerful, though needing a nap by the end of the adventures! Here’s a bit about each book: 🦈 𝙳𝚘𝚗’𝚝 𝙴𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚂𝚖𝚒𝚕𝚎 𝚊𝚝 𝚊 𝚂𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚔 If you meet a sea creature, It’s best to be polite. Otherwise, don’t be surprised If they give you a fright! Don’t make an enemy (or should that be ‘anemone’…) of any of these super sea dwellers and you’ll have a whale of a time with this fin-tastically fishy pop-up book! From a jumpy octopus and a pinchy crab to some cheeky clownfish and a hungry shark, there’s a whole host of underwater animals to meet. 🐞 𝙳𝚘𝚗’𝚝 𝙴𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝙻𝚊𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝚊𝚝 𝚊 𝙻𝚊𝚍𝚢𝚋𝚒𝚛𝚍 Size isn’t all that matters; if you’re little, you’re not least, As you will soon discover when you meet a minibeast! Little Irish Folklore Friends The creatures in Irish folklore often aren’t very kind. At best they’re mischievous tricksters who like to fool us humans, at worst, they’re terrifying! This fun book reimagines popular folklore characters who decide that being mean isn’t for them, and use their powers for good. There’s Liam the Leprechaun who leaves his gold in search of a friend, Seán the Selkie who tries out life as a human for a day, Betty the Banshee who learns there are better things to do with her voice than scare people, Pádraig the Púca who uses his shapeshifting to help people, Willow the Wisp who persuades her family to use their lights helpfully and Fiadh the Fairy who throws a party for humans and fairy folk. Both Milo and Gigi have loved these funny rhyming stories and the accompanying bright, fun illustrations. This book is a lovely way to introduce Irish folklore characters, showing both what they’re traditionally known for, and a kinder, modern interpretation. The stories are sometimes silly and gave us a giggle, but all have kindness and thinking of others at their core. I’ve been holding out on all of you. Because my family read this book aloud last year and let’s just say it’s another one of those books that is going to stay with me long after our family read alouds come to an end. It’s a book about a rover, named Resilience (Res), built by NASA scientists to explore planet Mars. After it’s launched, it realizes the mission is tougher than expected and it has to work hard to try to live up to its name and conquer the terrain. What Res wasn’t built for is where you will find the heart of this book. And if you never thought you would develop feelings for a robot ... well, you’ve never met this one. As the story develops, readers become so invested in Res’ survival. My son and I found ourselves feeling for this robot in the same way it started to develop and process human emotions. And all of a sudden, it goes from a story about space exploration to one about courage, determination and resilience. After you read this book, you will never think of a Mars Rover the same way again.

⭐ BOOK TOUR REVIEW ⭐ Thank you again @kathryn.holme and @lovebookstours for having us on this review tour and for the amazing gift pack. We really enjoyed reading this book. Arthur is in his pirate phase so it was no surprise that he wanted to be Captain Kit. As I was reading this story to Arthur he had his own little thoughts and inputs. He kept telling me that they'll be sick soon and you have to eat healthy 😂 Captain Kit is written wonderfully, the whole story book is set out in a way to engage with the children. The illustrations were stunning and the colours really popped off the page. Arthur enjoyed it so much that he had to look through the pictures again and again, retelling the story to his teddies. ✨blurb✨ Captain Kit loves snacking. And now it’s time for the hive to be divided which means it’s finally Willow’s turn to bring half of the hive home. With the help of Groundskeeper Tom, Willow learns all she needs to know about caring for native bees and the important role they play in pollinating flowers and plants. 🧁Sky Private Eye and the Case of the Runaway Biscuit 🧁 ❓QOTD: Which fairy tale character would you like to help ? Oh no ! The Little Old’s Biscuit Boy is missing ! He is taking part in the Fairytale Olympics and has gone for vigorous training, but Foxy Loxy is super hungry and is close behind . The clouds are darkening and a storm is brewing, he will turn into mush ! Quick, call Sky Private Eye who can help save the day with her bakineering magic and wit ! This book captured my heart with its sweetness and charm and its take on the unique twist of the Gingerbread Boy . It cleverly weaves together elements of a fractured fairy tale with a mysterious twist. For those unfamiliar, a fractured fairy tale is a modern retelling of a traditional fairy tale, but with a unique spin on the story. The beauty of a fractured fairy tale lies in its ability to convey updated lessons and moral messages in a fresh and engaging way. So, what exactly makes a fractured fairy tale tick? Let’s dive in and uncover the key elements that make these stories so captivating and thought-provoking. Fractured fairy tales start with the original fairy tale. Some story elements are changed (e.g., characters, setting, plot, point of view), changing the story’s moral or lesson. Here it is based on the Gingerbread Boy but where they hire a detective service run by a smart girl Sky who specialises and investigates in fairytale emergencies, clues, cupcakes and rescues .. Sky is a very interesting character and is humble and intelligent. The invention of just-in-case cupcakes, the Carrycake kit , and her storm watcher watch was just so quirky and added more magical elements to the entire story .. I highly recommend this quirky and fun book for your little ones who enjoy cupcakes, simple mysteries, bakineering, twusts, and the fairy tales we are all familiar with 💜🧁🍬 . . . @fivequillsforkids @lorettaschauer

The Legend of the Wild West Twins is an amazing new cowgirl book featuring twins Buffalo Lil and Buffalo Jill. Whilst they might look just the same, they’re as different as an apple pie and a desert cactus. 🥧🌵 The folks of Lone Ridge love sweet, smilin’ Jill, but think Lil’s too big for her boots - especially when she enters the RIP ROARIN’ RUMBLE, a fearsome Wild West contest, against the town hero Yee-Haw Jack. But when a huge HOO-HA rocks the Rumble, Lone Ridge might just need both twins to set it straight. A brilliant story showcasing both sibling rivalry and how siblings can put aside their differences and work together. The boys have been reading this one non-stop since it arrived. It’s such a fun, adventurous read with a powerful message at heart - the importance of being yourself! 🤠 I love reading this one to them and of course it can’t be read without a rootin’-tootin’ accent either, an instant favourite in our house! The Yellow Áo Dài by Hanh Bui, illustrated by Minnie Phan Naliah’s school is having an International Day, and she’s excited to show her class the Vietnamese Fan Dance. However, her dress is too snug. So she tries on one of mom’s and it rips. Without knowing what had happened, Mom gives Naliah a new Áo Dài for the dance. This leads to Naliah admitting her wrong and finding out a truth about her own mother and grandmother. Back matter includes notes from the author and illustrator plus a glossary. My students enjoyed this #AAPI story, & we even looked up a fan dance on You Tube. I’m familiar with the Korean fan dance, so it was neat to see Vietnam has their own also. @hbui333 @minnie_phan #aapiheritagemonth #diversepicturebooks #picturebookreview #vietnamesechildrensbooks #picturebookoftheday

𝕊 𝕦 𝕟 𝕟 𝕪 𝕊 𝕚 𝕕 𝕖 𝕌 𝕡 ᴀᴅ-ᴘʀ ☀️ Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you’ve had a lovely week and weekend. It’s #sundaybedtimestory time and this wonderful book was one of ours this evening. It’s been read a lot lately both at bedtime and during the day and I’m so pleased that we’ve got a copy of it. It’s a truly beautiful book. ☀️ Put on your Sunny-side specs, and what will you see? A glass half empty…or half full? Someone new…or a friends you haven’t met yet? Sometimes a sunny side is hard to see…and that’s ok. Wonderful things will be there to discover whenever you are ready. ☀️ This brilliant CBT-inspired book, fantastic for both home and school is great in helping children to choose how they see the world. The book uses die-cuts and flaps to show children how they can transform the world around them by reframing their thoughts. It’s such a clever design and brilliant for helping children to understand and explore difficult emotions and situations. It’s fantastic for adults too as it really does make you think about the power of your own thoughts and how reframing certain thoughts can change your perspective on a situation. Swipe right to take a peek inside - the illustrations are full of colour and joy and the design is so clever. ☀️ Have you read this one? It wasn’t until I became a mother that I realized how important taking care of a child’s mental and emotional health is.  So I couldn’t let May, Mental Health Awareness Month, go by without sharing some of my favorite books for children on this topic.  Because reading picture books is such a great way for helping children identify the mixed bag of emotions that come along with being human. Books featured are:   ⭐️ The Boy with Big, Big Feelings | @beamingbooksmn ⭐️ What If, Pig? | @harperkids ⭐️ The Struggle Bus | @kindworldpublishing ⭐️ Olivia Wrapped in Vines | @orcabook ⭐️ Ruby Finds a Worry | @bloomsburychildrens ⭐️ The Whatifs | @littlebeebooks ⭐️ A Pocket Full of Sads | @penguinkids ⭐️ The Rhino Suit | @soundstruekids ⭐️ Taco Falls Apart | @maginationpress ⭐️ Looking for Happy | @beamingbooksmn

🌳Wild Places: Life of Naturalist David Attenborough ✏️Hayley Rocco @hayleyroccobooks 🎨John Rocco @roccoart 📚@penguinkids If there was ever a picture book that begged to be an audiobook (read by the subject), here it is. There are few more iconic narrators than David Attenborough. His voice is like a siren song. When I’m flipping through nature (or any) documentaries, I instantly pause and start watching when I hear his unmistakable voice. Picture book biographies are my #1 favorite kid lit trend and this one is top notch. I honestly had no idea that Attenborough was born in 1926. He is 98 years old! What?!?! How amazingly lucky the world is to have had the gift of him for nearly a century. This book beautifully follows his whole life, showing us how his discovery of fossils while playing as a child sparked a lifelong love of the natural world. We see him age and his passion evolve into a career of advocacy for preserving wild places and how he knew one of the best ways to do that was educate others on the necessity to care for animals and habitats. The illustrations are beautiful with rich greens and blues throughout. I love how the dust jacket shows young Attenborough and the under cover shows an old Attenborough, both versions surrounded by nature. This book has solid backmatter with more details about his life events, conservation work, and ideas for how everyday world citizens can make a difference to preserving or restoring wild places. This will undoubtedly be one of my top books for 2024. It is a must buy for personal collections and libraries and makes a great addition to an activist section, nature and conservation section, or the ever growing and accessible picture book biography canon. #picturebookbiography #picturebookbiographies #davidattenborough #naturebooksforkids #picturebookswithapurpose #picturebook #picturebookillustration #picturebookoftheday #kidlit #booklover #childrensbooks #booksforkids #2024bookreleases #picturebookrecommendation

Dinosaur in my Pocket has quickly become one of our favourite picture books this year. This is a book that not only dinosaur lovers will love, but all children will connect with, because of its great message. Ashleigh Barton @ashleighjbarton and illustrator Blithe Fielden @blithe_illustrations have created a gorgeous narrative all about an emotion that we all feel sometimes, guilt. James loves dinosaurs and he also loves collecting miniature toys. On a school trip to the museum, James finds the perfect mini triceratops. But with no money to spend, James decides to do something that he knows he shouldn’t. He steals the mini triceratops, popping it in his pocket. As the story goes on, the triceratops grows and grows, as does James’ guilt for what he has done. When it all becomes too much, James bravely does the right thing. Guilt is such a difficult emotion to show kids in a picture storybook. I love the way Ashleigh and Blithe have used the symbolism of a toy growing to an extraordinary size, to show how something intangible, like guilt, can make a person feel. Not only does it show kids what this difficult emotion can be like, but it is a example that children would readily relate to. This would make a wonderful picture book for any school or home library. It delves into themes such as honesty, making mistakes and doing the right thing. It’s a perfect catalyst for generating discussions about SEL topics and scenarios. A big shout out to Mr. 5, who is also a triceratops lover. Thank you for sharing your toys with me. There’s an extra peek inside the book in my Instastory. 🎒🎒🎒🎒 Thanks so much to @hachettekidsanz for sharing this review copy with us. #DinosaurInMyPocket #PictureBookWeLove #NewPictureBook #DinosaurLover #Triceratops #SELForKids #SELBooks #SELLibrary #BooksAboutHonesty #BooksAboutMakingMistakes #picturebookoftheday

Storms in California were never scary when I was a kid. But when I traveled to México with my family and experienced my first heavy rainstorm, I was petrified. Torrential rains in Mexico are no joke. Reading Our Nipa Hut reminded me of of those scary storms I experienced as a kid. In the same way, Yelena experiences a storm in her family’s nipa hut in the Philippines. The house sways and bends as the wind howls, but the nipa hut protects them. The house almost drowns in puddles, but proudly it stands on its stilts protecting the family. The house began to crack and break in different places, but it safely protects the family huddled inside. Finally, the storm is over and now the nipa hut needs their help. “The nipa hut is family too.” The illustrations are so charismatic and give so much personality to the nipa house in the story showing us her full range of emotions as the story unfolds. The back matter is filled with facts about the Philippines and the practicality, durability, and cultural significance of nipa huts. Did you know that the nipa hut structure informed and inspired an American architect to build the first skyscraper in 1884? Counting down the days to May 20th, the release day of my new book The Monster Job written by @faithteope 💛💙💚The book helps develop financial literacy from the story of a sweet monster family, it’s for both parents and kids. As a mom, I was inspired by Faith’s insight on building a reward system. As an illustrator, I enjoyed the process of creating, like character design, sketching and collages. So much fun! Hope you will enjoy it. Old Oak and the Wildflowers - Book Tour Old Oak watches over the barley field, seeing seasons change and crops grow. But this year is different. The winter was long and the summer is hot, many of the insects and birds are leaving to find food elsewhere, and the barley crop is thin, making the farmer stressed. After the harvest, the field looks to be abandoned, has the farmer forgotten it? But when spring comes, the farmer and his wife plant seeds again and in summer the field is transformed into a beautiful wildflower meadow, encouraging wildlife back to the farm. This beautiful book gently weaves messages of conservation and rewilding into its stunningly illustrated pages. I love that the story is told as a discussion between the Old Oak and a shield bug which makes it observational and non-judgemental. Coming from a farming family, I know that it’s not an easy job. Farming practices and policies aim to get the most profit from the land but are sometimes unintentionally damaging to the environment, but things are changing. Diversity of planting (like growing wildflowers, as well as planting trees and hedgerows) welcomes birds, insects, pollinators and other wildlife back to farmland which can be very beneficial for crops and livestock. I noted that the book mentions that farming continued in other fields around the old barley field too. Gigi is a bug-lover and shield bugs are her favourite! She was delighted to see one in this book! I really enjoyed that the story focussed on the importance and benefits of insects and birds, not just in parks and gardens but in farms too, and we lived spotting all the wildlife in the illustrations from tiny bugs to pheasants and foxes. Thanks to the publisher for having me on this tour. Do check out the other reviews too! This book is beyond gorgeous! Both the lyrical text and the amazing art take you on an unforgettable journey. It tells the tale of a young Hawaiian girl that is born and “shared the island’s heartbeat.” She learns the tales and lore of her homeland through hula. She learns how the land was formed and how to care and preserve it. She learns of her ancestors, their journeys, exploration, and their arts. She learns to give aloha to all. We got to meet @kaylinmgeorge and listen to her read her beautiful book. She taught the kids some Hawaiian words and hula moves. Then they created a lei. She also shared how her mom inspired her to write this book and share her Hawaiian culture with others. Throughout the book she asks “What did hula teach her?” and I couldn’t help but think of all the opportunities we have to learn from our parents without knowing we were actually learning. Whether it’s a dance, cooking food, or celebrating a holiday, we are always learning and imparting our knowledge on others. Storytelling doesn’t always come from a book, it comes from the heart. It comes from our shared experiences, and from this amazing desire to preserve what we have learned from our loved ones. What a beautiful gift is that? This Is The Ship That Jack Built We’ve really enjoyed this twist on “the house that Jack built”. Jack’s gold is safely stowed in the hold of his ship, but a rat steals the gold, setting of a chain of events that see a cat, a whale, a squid, a hill, a turtle and more sea animals get involved. Will Jack ever be able to get the gold back in the hold. This book has come at the perfect time as Milo’s topic at school this month is under the sea and they’ve been doing lots of pirate play too. It’s given us a chance to practice our Makaton signs for sea creatures too! We’ve loved the repeating rhyme and the fun illustrations in this story, and there have been plenty of giggles as we’ve read this fun book! We especially love the page which rotates as the swag falls from Jack’s bag! There are some truths about couches you may not be aware of and author Adam Rubin is laying it all out in the newly released (and hilarious) The Truth About The Couch. You may think couches are just for sitting or napping (my preferred couch use). But in this new story readers learn all about the laugh-out-loud conspiracies associated with couches, like how they need a steady diet of coins and remote controls and how some of them are grown in farms. Although some of these truths may be questionable, all of them make for a super fun read aloud about one of the world’s most beloved pieces of furniture. And will certainly put a smile on your little readers’ faces. #gifted

Father’s Day is exactly one month away and I’ve got the perfect book for you to share with a special dad in your life. The newly released I’m Proud of You is such a wonderful celebration of the bond between fathers and sons. It takes readers through the ups and downs a boy experiences throughout his days and shows them how his dad is there giving him unwavering support and being proud of him every step of the way. I don’t usually enjoy books written by celebrities but I love how this one perfectly encapsulates the pride all parents feel for their children and will truly warm the heart of anyone who reads it. I also love how a black dad and son are at the forefront as well as a biracial family. I can never get enough of this (still) much needed representation in kid lit. #gifted

Reposting this 💜 review by @felizreading. 🙌🏽 Elio is in love! His world turns into a myriad of colors as he experiences all new feelings and emotions. And Camelia likes him back. He’s on cloud nine living his best boyfriend life. But then comes Chava to mess it all up. Why do relationships have to be so hard? Pop wants him to man up, while mom wants him to be an ally for women. How will Elio ever find middle ground? A raw coming of age book from the viewpoint of a young Latino boy. It’s full of humor, farts and mocos, and full of heart ❤️. This beautiful novel in verse will enchant you with its lyrical language and imagery. Perfect for all tweens, and all the adults that are entrusted in raising them- and a special shout out to parents that are healing themselves while raising the next generation. Check out Ultraviolet! One thing that is important to me is that my children grow up with an understanding of Memorial Day that goes beyond cookouts and swimming pools. Those things of course are great, but we get to enjoy them because of so many brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I'm happy to have found four great picture books to recommend for Memorial Day! I'll share more detail on each, but will likely only read 1-2 to my kids this year since my oldest is only in kindergarten. I think some of the storylines and content would be a bit easier to understand and discuss in a year or two. Quick note to my Georgia girls: the Poppy Lady lived just outside of Athens! A famous Georgian I had never heard of before. Do you have any other books to suggest to read as we approach Memorial Day?
