Scissors pose - an advanced pose which plays with ego & self. How do you meet yourself in this pose? At what cost? #yogawisdom The connection to solar plexus for this pose feels like a volcano! There is a balance between activation & softness in order to feel light in this pose. Most times I see this pose practiced incorrectly. The tendency is to fall forward & put the weight in the shoulders lifting legs higher than the upper body. Yes, balance can be achieved this way. But with what cost? That’s a question for every choice in our life - what is the cost physically, mentally and emotionally? How do I know when to move forward and when to step back? By feeling. Feeling the “social boxes” you need to fit in & discerning where you stand. All poses are mirrors of how we practice life. When in the pose focus on: 1. Hugging & pulling front ribs in while scooping chest open. 2. If you fall forward, practice with the toes of the back foot on the floor reaching the whole inner leg back. 3. Spread collarbones & soften jaw lines. 4. Draw the ground towards you while pushing it away, feeling the web of your palms. 5. Move slowly to feel all these lines of energy. 6. Practice building strength & connection from the belly. 7. Strengthen serratus anterior & hip flexors. And yes, it may take a while before you balance in the air! The only one who cares to balance at any cost is our Ego. 😏 When we truly nourish the self, this desire of achieving the “boxes of life” is melt away. Wait for yourself and keep coming back practicing the previous level of this pose in order to strengthen the connection to belly. Holding space! What does that mean! One of the greatest gifts I believe we can do is hold space, hold it for others and hold it for ourselves And here is the thing we won’t be able to hold space, connection or support if we haven’t done it for our self. So what is holding space? It is to witness with out judgement To listen without trying to fix it! To observe! And in this space we can really hear. To hold space is truly and act of love. And guess what the whole science and foundation of yoga is about the mind. And have you ever noticed how judgmental, distracted and all over the place the mind can be? There is inner dialogue work, knowing the ego, understanding the mind, and learning to become a witness. One of the first steps to meditation and “brain fitness” is a technique know as putting the mind in the seat of the observer. There are purposeful tools, focus work, breath techniques, asanas (yoga postures) and awareness to train the mind. The Ytt 200 hr Trauma inform yoga training gives us insight on this Big time! How to really hold space for ourselves first, how to fill up our “well” Because the wisdom says you can’t give from an empty well ” Who is ready to grow, learn, and step into the journey.
