Before I start I make no apology here. I’ve waxed lyrical and no doubt bored many in the past about the virtues of this bottling. Try as I might to eeek every last drop and make it last as long as possible nothing, as they say lasts forever. Was a glorious @springbank1828 bottled 4 years ago for #IAAS. I miss it. The next day, before leaving Cluj to return home, I went back to Bardot hoping to be able to get another dram of Berry Bros & Rudd Single Cask Lochindaal. But unfortunately, it wasn’t available at the bar (yet), so bad luck for me. But since I was there, I chose some other whiskies. The first one was an Edradour, one that I’ve had before, but not recently, and it’s quite praised amongst sherry bomb enthusiasts. It’s the 12yo Caledonia, bottled at a proper 46% abv, not like the 40% 10yo. 😜 Indeed, a standard good sherried whisky, cinnamon, toffee, chocolate, raisins and dry cranberries, cocktail cherries, plum jam and all that. Nose and taste alike. Nothing surprising, not a lot of complexity, but a really good dram. Edradour 12 Years Old Caledonia. No age statement but like my donut, it can be eaten anytime and you don’t need to be any age to enjoy a donut. Asyla de Compass Box Con menos grano que una mezcla tradicional (50 % frente a 70-80 %), Compass Box Asyla definitivamente aporta más; literalmente, más en lo que respecta a la malta. Ofrece una experiencia más sólida e interesante para los bebedores de whisky blend escocés y, si estás en esa categoría, definitivamente deberías probarlo. En pocas palabras, es agradable y vale la pena probarlo. No siempre podemos saber que y cual es su composición, pero este Asyla está compuesto por Blend: 50 % whisky de grano (Cameron Bridge) y 50 % Single Malts (5 % Glen Elgin, 23 % Teaninich, 22 % Linkwood), se utilizan Barriles: Ex-Bourbon, viene sin edad declarada y a un volumen de ABV: 40 %, Filtrado sin frío y Color natural. Color Miel NARIZ Plátano, miel, malta, caramelo, Cheerios, fruta y un toque de coco y chicle ceroso. PALADAR Plátano, malta, miel, toffe, frutos secos, vainilla y un poco de especias, cera y coco. FINAL Medio, Malta, caramelo, grano, vainilla, cera y frutos secos. Buen equilibrio, cuerpo medio y un toque calcáreo sobre una sensación ligera y suave. Compass Box Asyla es un whisky decente, suave y sencillo. No es demasiado complejo ni profundo, pero en general tiene un carácter agradable que se siente familiar y acogedor, aunque un poco aburrido. Afrutado y ceroso desde la nariz hasta el final, es un whisky seguro, simple y sin pretensiones que se ubica en el mejor extremo de las mezclas gracias a la alta cantidad de malta (50%) que contiene, que mantiene a raya los aspectos a veces empalagosos del whisky de grano con mucho caramelo. Today we are announcing a couple of exciting things! Firstly my girlfriend is finally pregnant! To start a family of my own was always a dream of mine and now its happening. Secondly the return of our Rogia series. This series was normally not returning so soon but because we expecting a baby + people have been dming us and asking us about rogia’s on each festival we were attenting. We will bring out a gender reveal Rogia aged on a banyuls cask. In my opinion bringing out a rogia for this occasion which also was the start of my brand was the right thing to do as both Rogia and my child have/will be the start of long journey. When the bottle arrives on your door step or you come and collect it you will notice that the wax will be blue or pink. That will indicate what gender we are expecting. The next fascinating core range we will be looking at will be from Aultmore 🥃 This remarkable distillery was founded in 1896 and the majority of its product was destined for blending since production began at the distillery. With its single malts very recently given an official release, as previously Aultmore’s single malts were reserved for independent bottlings. Within the limited official distillery releases are: - 12 year old - 18 year old - 21 year old Aultmore has had an incredible story of repeated closures and ownership changes but has stood the test of time and is with us now producing ever more incredible single malts. With a distinctive flavour profile of sweetness, orchard fruits and subtle vanilla it’s no wonder the distillers have been hiding away the beautiful single malt that comes from Aultmore. Unsere zweite der drei zu verpodcastenden Destillerien der Kildalton Brennereien (nach Laphroaig aus Folge 8) ist Lagavulin. Kleiner Spoiler: auch die Dritte wird noch folgen ;-) In traumhafter Küstenlage auf der legendären schottischen Torf-Insel Islay in der „Mulde der Mühle“ steht diese äußerst berühmte und traditionelle Whisky-Destillerie - schließlich ist Lagavulin einer der ursprünglichen „Classic Malts of Scotland.“ Daher wird es in dieser Folge auch mal wieder historisch interessant - also Geschichts-Fans: aufgepasst! Wer kann schon ahnen, dass es Mal einen Blended Whisky von Lagavulin UND Laphroaig gab? Was würden wir geben, um eines dieser alten weißen Pferde probieren zu können! Kaum verwunderlich, dass das gemeinsame Produkt zu (tatsächlich auch juristischen) Streitigkeiten zwischen den beiden benachbarten Platzhirschen geführt hat. Was Ardmore, Port Ellen und Malt Mill mit diesem köstlich-rauchigen Klassiker zu tun haben, erfahrt ihr ebenso von uns!
