Apparently all it takes is a holiday to reevaluate every corner of your life. I've done all but nothing with this account because, realistically, I've been coasting through the first 7 months of my PhD and didn't feel like "enough" of a PhD student to talk about it. So as I start taking myself seriously in every aspect of my life (other than the ones I need to start behaving a little more playfully in), I'm finally going to stop coasting and start documenting my PhD journey and my journey towards figuring out my thirties, becoming a Proper Adult after somehow retreating gradually to be less independent than I was in my early twenties, and understanding who I am after some monumental changes in my life. So for those who are new here or haven't seen me introduce myself yet - hi I'm Nadine, but most everybody calls me Nay. I'm 34 and need to start acting like it. I'm in my first year of my PhD and researching the millennial experience of leaving the Catholic Church, with lived experience of being a millennial ex-Catholic. I live with my girlfriend Hannah, her parents and Ruby the dog while we save for our own home, and moved across the country for love before isolating so I haven't made the most of being a Wiltshire newbie yet (another use for this account is to document my exploring). Part of the whole "not getting myself yet" thing is that I only figured out the whole gay part at 31 (Catholicism, amirite?). I'm a bookworm and will talk about my new reads as I start enjoying getting lost in stories again (they won't usually be the latest trends, I'm never really on time to one). I teach A Level Sociology part-time alongside my PhD and I've never been more fulfilled nor more exhausted in my career, having come "from industry". I'm a constantly recovering problem drinker coming up to my third year sober and still have a lot of learning and processing to do. So...that's me.
