@legshernandez is such an interesting writer. This novel has an unusual narrator which tells the story of MG. MG experiences many challenges in the novel including discrimination, elitism, poverty and a miscarriage. MG, who is from Manila, eventually settles in Canada as a PSW after some good and terrible experiences as a nanny across Hong Kong and Canada. She eventually meets Liz who is deteriorating from Alzheimer’s disease. MG has to face her own prejudices as she comes to accept Liz for the trans woman that she is, eventually becoming not only an advocate for Liz, but her friend. I liked this novel. It was a story that needed to be told about how sponsored immigrants are treated by others when they just want a better life of security and respect. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an intriguing debut! I really liked the timeline jumps between chapters, the characters and the twist at the end. The writing is very atmospheric and I enjoyed the setting of the Pacific Northwest. The homesteading and focus on foraging for your food seemed a bit in your face, but I appreciate the lifestyle and found reading about it interesting. However, I did think it was about twice as long as it needed to be and there was a lot of build up for a very rushed ending. I also wish we had gotten a little more about Alice and Marlowe. Moram reći da su mi ove grafike likova između većih poglavlja baš bile simpatične i fora. Knjiga je debeljuca pa sam ju malo duže čitala. Trust, by Hernan Diaz Read: May 2024, 3.5/5⭐️ . “For I’ve come to think one is truly married only when one is more committed to one’s vows than the person they refer to.” . I think this is a book perfect for literary & contemporary fiction lovers. I can see why it won a Pulitzer- the prose was lovely & all characters could have been standing in my living room for how intricately every part of them was laid out on the page. The structure itself was something new to me as well (and made me wish for a physical copy I could flip pages back and forth rather than the kindle version). . While I can appreciate the complexity of this story, it’s not my preferred genre. I know we’re not meant to love the characters, but am I really supposed to care about the uber-wealthy’s marriage & PR problems? Some days this proved a challenge for me to continue reading. . While I would recommend Trust, I am a bit mystified as to its wild popularity on booktok last year. What do you think, am I way off mark here?

📚🤓 BOOK REVIEW 🤓📚 The Perfect Lie by Jo Spain 386 pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book had been sat on my TBR trolly for ages and my friend picked it for me to read this month. I had read a couple of thriller in the last couple of months that weren’t great so I begrudgingly started reading this one. Believe it or believe it not… I actually enjoyed it. It was quite clever, I didn’t know which way it was going to go throughout, I had some ideas as I was reading as to what was going to happen but none of them came into fruition, the ending was a complete surprise to me. I’m not a great lover of thrillers I think they are very same same but sometimes one does come along that I do really enjoy and this was one of them and I would recommend it. 📚🤓 BOOK REVIEW 🤓 📚 All My Mother’s by Joanna Glen 480 pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was passed to me by my mum who really did enjoy it. I loved the story, a little heartbreaking at points and I did shed a tear or two. I thought it could have been a little shorter, certain parts especially towards the end I felt were a little dragged out, maybe she struggled to finish it off but still 4 ⭐️s from me. Evo najiskrenije, da nisam vidjela da piše Patricia Alge ja bi mislila da je ovo roman od Julie Garwood. Ako volite povijesne ljubiće gdje je glavni lik lady u nevolji i ratnik koji se zaljubi spašavajući stvar, ovo je knjiga i priča za vas. Sviđa mi se što usput naučimo o tadašnjim običajima u dvorcu i po logorima, staležima, odjeći... Evo ja sam baš uživala i imate moju preporuku za čitanje! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved the first half of the book, got lost in the middle a bit, and sort of enjoyed the ending. The Romeo and Juliet retelling with some magic thrown in was awesome and I liked how the book was broken up into acts and scenes. I didn’t feel a strong emotional connection to any of the characters though and I didn’t really understand the purpose of the lawyer. I found the pacing in this a little slow and I couldn’t quite understand why Dacre was so obsessed with Iris and Roman. That said, I did enjoy the duology and loved the concept of the magically linked typewriters. I wish we had learned a little more about Enva and that the meeting with Dacre had a little more to it. 📚 ***Book Review*** 📚 4✨'s Probably 4.5 stars. I finished this last Tuesday and have been letting it marinade for a bit. First of all it's a chonky beyatch , but, we all knew that going in. 913 pages to be exact (took me one week to finish). However, it never felt like a chore, in fact, it was a delight. The pacing of this I think could be a master class on pacing It. Never. Once. Dragged!!! And trust me I think there were plenty of places where it could have. Follett, though, has a way with dialogue, character development and plot that it never once got bogged down. There was always something going on with our protagonists . Aldred, Ragna and Edgar had plenty of things to contend with. This was a total delight to read,and trust me there was enough bas stuff and evil to keep it interesting! My goal is to take a break and read something different for a minute, but I will be rereading Pillars of the Earth in May and then continuing on with the rest of the series. I loved the world building in this and how it felt weaved into the story versus a knowledge dump at the beginning. The magic system is not complicated and I really appreciate how easy it is to dive into this. Roman and Iris are #goals and I couldn’t be more in love with them. The book makes you feel the feelings and I think it deals with war, heartbreak, loss, and grief so well. U planu je bilo pročitati knjigu za Svjetski dan sreće. Ne pitajte prije koliko tjedana je bio🙈. Nisam nešto oduševljena napisanim, očekivala sam mnogo više od autorice. Inače ne čitam puno self help knjiga, što pokušavam promjeniti i dati im veću šansu, ali onda dođem do ovakve knjige i motivacija padne na nulu. Uglavnom, super knjiga počinje i do sredine sam par citata izdvojila, svidjelo mi se kako uvodi u priču. Ali onda kreće o oprostu. I to je to. To je ostatak knjige. Kako oprostiti nekoj osobi za nešto ružno što vam je u životu napravila. I poruka je da ćete biti sretni-ji ako svakome oprostite i molite pet min na dan za tu osobu. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1000% yes! This historical fiction is a captivating must read! Set in the Spanish Inquisition, it really highlights Jewish persecution and religious imposition. The female characters are strong and admirable. I appreciated the subtlety of the magic system and the tragedy of love. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was such an interesting concept and one I hadn’t seen before. The plot is so intriguing and some of the husbands were a riot! I thought Bohai was an interesting character, but found that I was left with a lot of questions about where and why and how. By the end, Lauren seemed a bit unhinged to me, but who wouldn’t be after her crazy year? I almost wished her and Bohai would’ve ended up together or there was some grand scheme at play. Hey 90s kids! Radio Deewanas & Deewanis! & Hey RADIO RJs! I hope you know how much influential and inspirational you all are in our day to day lives! I loved listening to the radio growing up. As long as there is radio in the story - real or imagined - my childhood, my father, my travel stories will come tumbling out like there’s no beginning or no end to it. I remember requesting songs, calling up live radio shows and falling in love with the RJs’ voices almost every single time I heard them in my favourite radio shows. This book is the perfect world to dive in when it comes to the times I can relate with while growing up, times spent at home with my family and difficult times of my youth which could only be pacified by listening to the radio. Talks with 14 amazing RJs and the valuable insights/lessons we can learn from them through their journey. I absolutely love how each of them have something valuable to share about social skills (mind you this is not a self help book on social skills!) and what they have learnt from their work interacting with different personalities from various fields. There’s Ameen Sayani who gives us the valuable ten essential qualities for being someone working in the media. Our most beloved author, Ruskin Bond, was interviewed by Anita Naidu. We have Anmol who charmed everyone who listened to All India Radio and encouraged himself to try out new things which were haven’t been done before; learnt to be authentic and how difficult it is to interview celebrities. This is just a glimpse of the amazing talk-essays out of this book. I am still in awe with Mamta Singh of Vividh Bharti! Some things common amongst these RJs is that each of them are unique, weren’t afraid to try out new things, not afraid being themselves and of course they grew up listening to the radio. I would say this is one precious book which I will treasure as long as I live. ☕️👋What’s one song you would like to request on a radio show?

If I could’ve just skimmed the first chunk and then read the end, that would’ve been good enough. The world building was very thorough and the discussion of colonialism and language was thought provoking. Ovo je baš ljubić po mom guštu i mogu reći da sam uživala od prve do zadnje stranice. Jako mi se sviđa stil pisanja, postepena karakterizacija likova, što čitamo priču iz njezinog i njegovog kuta, humor koji je sveprisutan, a i kemija glavna dva lika nije za baciti😉. Plum plum plum i minął nam już marzec, a ja nawet nie wiem kiedy tak szybko 😱 A o to i moje czytelnicze podsumowanie (lepiej późno niż wcale) I standardowo jak co miesiąc wybiorę moje top topów 👌 Myśle, że was to nie zdziwi ale numer 1 i to nawet nie wiem czy nie tego roku to "Zdradziecka Królowa", to moja obsesja i miłość bezgraniczna do całej dylogi - tam siedzi wszystko, bohaterowie są świetnie wykreowani szczególnie Lara, sama fabuła/historia jest ciekawa i angażująca do tego intrygi w tle i niesamowite walki - no to jest 100/10 A na drugim miejscu umieszczę Finał Caravalu- jeśli miałabym ocenić całą trylogie to 1 część podobała mi się jednak najbardziej, później umieściłabym właśnie Finał- było dynamicznie trochę groźnie i w dalszym ciągu magicznie i tajemniczo. Poczułam lekkie rozczarowanie ale takie tyci boo zabrakło mi paru elementów, o których powiem więcej w pełnej recenzji 😊 A jak wyglądał wasz marzec?
