River Ballerina 🩰 Late night impromptu photoshoot. This is my second little solo shoot I’ve done by request for the kids. I actually really enjoy it because they enjoy it. And the memories live on. For family shoots, I feel I create what I want and dress everyone accordingly. However with solo shoots they get to pick and choose what interests them shows more personality. This was so fun! So, this is it. The barn. One of a few.. Roscoe has been exploring the great outdoors with us lately. Someone has to be strictly on watch because this bugger is quick and would never want a wee accident with all the feet around here. Let alone all the other animals. When I woke up and see a female missing and this one not moving I was quite upset and zero evidence as to a predator or scenario. Our outdoor dog / goat. Yesterday, we walked to our road to meet the kids walking home from the bus. After a 10 day preterm labour scare. 4 days in hospital, and a week long bedrest. I finally got back out to where my heart is happy. Minimalist Farmhouse. Perhaps it’s nesting, or decluttering… We decided to randomly buy a huge container of paint, and just redo the main rooms. By we I mean, me. I wanted to have it done, but needed hubby to do it. We work in sync that way. He knows better then to let me have a paint brush…what would take me a month to accomplish takes him hours. 🤗 With all the wall holes filled in and painted, and all the planter shelves brought down I’m left with… Back up and clutter my beautiful new space or new locations. Have you ever heard of Angel Wings? One of our little ducklings was showing some weird signs something wasn’t developmentally right. It seemed as if it’s little fingers of its wings were growing way quicker then the rest of the wing feathers, so they sticked out as the photo shows. But what is it? Angel wing (sometimes referred to airplane, twisted or crooked wing) is a cosmetic condition that ducks can be afflicted with that causes the flight feathers on the tip of a duck's wing to twist or rotate as they grow and the feathers to point away from the body, instead of laying flat. When the feathers grow faster than the duck's wing structure, the heavy feathers cause the last joint of the wing to twist out away from the duck's body. Once the bird matures, the affected wing permanently sticks out at an awkward angle instead of gracefully folding against the body. Many different reasons can cause this such as incubation temperatures, feed, breed, etc. All you can do to help is wrap the wings for a period of time, and try using Alfalfa pellets in their diets. With Halo (name influenced by its current condition) we tried wrapping around the body, but the stability with it wasn’t very good. You could hear his sibling laughing at its drunk swagger. So we tried individually wrapping each wing and then wrapping them together. So far so good. Halo gets an hour in the morning and night to swim and clean, but for now it’s lots of land time. Canning was definitely not something I was truly aware of, or only thought grandmas would achieve such an awesome skill. To be fully honest there was a time in my life where I would almost cringe to the thought of opening up a jar to eat. Crazy to think how far I’ve come as a person, and found what’s important. To have found such an opportunity to provide for my children not only food but experience. As I made butter chicken the other night, I didn’t have any thoughts in my mind cubing up my chicken breasts from Costco. Never thought about the life the chicken lived, the food it ate, if it were male or female, how old it was, or what the breed was. There was no picture in my mind while cutting it, I was just simply.. Making dinner.. Then it came to me, why? Is it just because that’s how we were raised, that store bought is the right and normal way? I think we’ve found her hobby. 🐴 Isabella had no idea where she was going yesterday, I had packed her cowboy boots in a bag and her dad hid them till they pulled up. She only knew there was a little early birthday surprise waiting for her at the end of the drive. She was so excited to find out she was getting to ride a horse for the first time. She ironically wanted to read a book about horses the night before with me, I was bursting with excitement for her that night. After 30 minutes she looked like a natural. We all went to watch her in awe, and look at the other horses. Much to my surprise all four of the kids were asking for one by the end of the day, and I some how was searching farm auctions to see. 🙈 Will power is what I need right now, lessons is all they need right now. Backyard flooded kayak rides with my littlest love. It’s always mixed emotions when the flood comes. I love the giant swimming pool in the backyard, but it’s a constant worry for the basement. I love the less amounts of mowing needing to be done, but the yard is a mud pit once it’s all back down.
