Home workouts mean not many of us are getting our hands on a barbell these days. The good news is there are a lot of benefits to the unilateral training we’re doing with our dumbbells! With single-arm training you reap 3 benefits that you don’t get with traditional two-arm training: ✅ Increased Core Stability When you train with one arm, you usually find yourself either leaning away from the weight or leaning into it. The benefit to your core comes when you resist the urge to lean, lock down your core and keep it level. 💪 ✅ Increased Limb Control Lifting with one arm requires more focus on the exercise. You need to grip the weight harder to lower it and then press it back up under control. I’m so #blessed to have this work family. This holiday season we weren’t able to celebrate our regular whole clinic Christmas party. We have been broken up into #QuaranTeams to limit exposure which has led to long days, crazy schedules but a safer working environment. The #UCSDSOM Strengthening Significant Others And Relationships (SSOAR) Interest Group offers advice to current or prospective students who are managing being a full time student while also jugging parenthood, marriage or a significant other. “Make sure to practice clear and open communication with friends, family and classmates, stay positive, do not shy away from asking for help, and block out time to recharge and focus on your family or partner when possible.” Certain obstacles some of our students have faced this past year have included pregnancy, social isolation, childcare, job loss, and moving in or living with a significant other amid the uncertainty of a virtual academic year.
