Every now and then we organize special meetings in Milan, Turin and Brescia to write letters and postcards to Russian political prisoners. Several days ago we received a reply form famale prisoner Zarema Musaeva: she answered to a postcard wrote by our dear friend Alfredo @alfredofelletti_photographer in December and sent in Zarema's penal colony in Russia via Armenia by activists of the @lettersoffreedom_russia project. Zarema wrote that she was glad to receive a postcard from Italy and was sending Alfredo her best wishes. We will soon organize other meetings like these. Паліну Шарэнда-Панасюк затрымалі ў студзені 2021 года, і суд прыгаварыў яе да двух гадоў калоніі па артыкулах аб абразе Лукашэнкі, прадстаўніка ўлады і гвалце або пагрозе гвалтам міліцыянту. Яна павінна была выйсці на волю ў 2022 годзе, але яе асудзілі па артыкуле аб непадпарадкаванні адміністрацыі калоніі (артыкул 411 КК) і дадалі год да тэрміну. Сегодня во Флоренции у Форума Нельсона Манделы, возле клетки, в которой он провел 18 лет, прошел перфоманс, приуроченный ко дню солидарности с беларусскими политзаключенными. Его организовала представитель народного посольства Беларуси в Италии Юлия Юхно @julia_tarasevich. Участвовали свободные политзаключенные я и Виталий Жук @2020chikchirik. На нашей одежде были символичные желтые нагрудные знаки. Во время перфоманса с двух сторон клетки стояли по 2 стула, на каждом из которых сидели мы с Виталием. На фоне звучали письма политзаключенных Виктора Бабарико, Полины Шарендо-Панасюк, Марфы Рабковой и других на итальянском языке. Итальянцы по очереди садились напротив нас во время прочтения каждого письма. По окончанию перфоманса мы были заключены в наручники и прошли внутрь клетки. — Today in Florence, at the Nelson Mandela Forum, near the cage in which he spent 18 years, a performance was held to mark the day of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners. It was organized by the representative of the People’s Embassy of Belarus in Italy, Yulia Yukhno @julia_tarasevich Free political prisoners Vitaly Zhuk @2020chikchirik and I took part. We had symbolic yellow badges on our clothes. During the performance, there were 2 chairs on both sides of the cage, and Vitaly and I sat on each of them. Letters from political prisoners Viktor Babariko, Polina Sharendo-Panasyuk, Marfa Rabkova and others in Italian were heard in the background. The Italians took turns sitting opposite us while each letter was read. At the end of the performance, we were handcuffed and walked inside the cage.

Як напісаў на сваёй старонцы ў Facebook яе муж Андрэй Шарэнда, 19 траўня Паліну павезлі кудысьці з калоніі №24. У сакавіку гэтага года, калі беларускія прапагандысты здымалі сюжэт пра палітвязня, у кадры было напісана, што тэрмін зняволення Шарэнды-Панасюк павінен скончыцца 21 траўня. Аднак на днях у тэлеграм-канале ГУБАЗ з'явіўся з'едлівы каментар, што ніхто і не казаў аб вызваленні Паліны. Пазней з'явілася інфармацыя, што жанчыну затрымалі 19 траўня на трое сутак. Сёння ёй павінна быць прад'яўлена новае абвінавачанне, сутнасць якога пакуль не вядома. У 2021 годзе актывістку «Еўрапейскай Беларусі» і Беларускага прафсаюза радыёэлектронная прамысловасці (РЭП) асудзілі спачатку на 2 гады зняволення за нібыта гвалтоўныя дзеянні адносна міліцыянта і знявагу Лукашэнкі, а праз год да гэтага тэрміну ёй дадалі яшчэ 1 год нібыта за злоснае непадпарадкаванне патрабаванням адміністрацыі калоніі. Паліна Шарэнда-Панасюк — маці дваіх непаўналетніх дзяцей. “It calls out through dusty pages of history and echoes from those whose shoulders I stand on - the ones who were hosed down but never retreated, who were beaten but persisted, and the ones whose voices were locked behind walls but whose spirits were never broken.” In a near-future America, Muslim-Americans are rounded up and detained in camps. The parallels to the Holocaust are strong, especially in terms of the buildup to incarceration - census, book bans and burnings, restrictions of careers, curfews. There are frequent references to Japanese-American internment camps though, particularly Manzanar, which reminds the reader that not just could this happen, it has happened before. Have we learned anything from that history? The number of people who don’t know about that period of American history is a worrisome indicator that we haven’t. As Layla is displaced and imprisoned, barcoded and threatened, her anger at this injustice fuels her resistance. Protest is patriotism. The end of the book wraps up very quickly - I’m skeptical that the internment camps would be so quickly disbanded and concerned about the all the other seemingly unchanged policies - reintegration will presumably not be simple. But this is an inspiring book about fighting for an America that can keep being better than it was before.
