Yes, I get paid to play in the mud. Spent this week digging around under a city Street and the West Valley. What you’re looking at in the second picture is one of the main pipes that I had to locate and clear. That pipe is 7 feet in diameter. I had to dig around it, and clear 4 feet under it. Along with opening up a 3 foot wide, 8 to 14 foot deep trench. Been a long couple of nights. However, I have happy clients, because we were able to get the job finished an entire day early. Now it’s time to go home, take a shower, and go to sleep. Monday's nature wander gave us mud and acorns to play! Have you ever squished an acorn or flower into gooey mud? I highly recommend it! We found purple and yellow flowers, and those squished nicely into mud also. Then, after creating a mud masterpiece, a final run over it on the balance trike completed the mud moment. Boy, did I have fun with these two! Although I had no idea the best ways to use the faceting tool, I must say it is very forgiving and has the most beautiful effect with these glazes. How the carved in lines just move with glaze... just WOW! Since these two babies, I have asked my teacher the correct way to use the tool, and she did an AMAZING demo. I'm not gonna lie though, my last throwing session with them didn't work at well either. But that's the beauty of pottery, nothing is for sure, and practice, practice, practice is the only way to learn! These are handthrown mugs. At the leather hard stage, I used the @dirtygirlspotterytools faceting tool to carve into them. After the bisque fire, the first mug was dipped in tenmoku gold glaze for five seconds. The second mug is tenmoku gold, and gold luster glaze. ❤️ Things I like: I adore the glaze on mug 2, the clean handles and placement of them, and the facet tool effect. 📝 Things to work on: size of the mugs and how to use the faceting tool to give cleaner lines. Podiums, muscles and just hanging around like a 🦥. I do love me a good Herc hoist. That tire pull was absolutely insane, until I switched to the men's tire. Apparently the womens tires had cemented themselves into the mud. I pulled myself down instead of the tire across. The men's tires were on more solid ground and moved like butter across a skillet. Let's talk about that Weaver man. It broke my race addled brain so badly. The bars were wet and really far apart and I was having instant amnesia. I could not remember how to do it from one bar to the next despite having just done the last one. I painted underglaze into the carved out area at the leather hard stage. I then carved out the mountains & sun. After the bisque fire, I used black underglaze to fill in the carved lines and wiped away with a sponge. The inside glaze is Tenmoku Gold, and then I dipped the top half into Gold Luster glaze. ❤️ Things I like: I LOVE the way the gold luster moves over the tenkoku gold glaze, the design, and the shape of the mug. 📝 Things to work on: design placement and cleaner carved lines. We got to join @scdnr and @chaswaterkeeper to work on a marsh rehabilitation project. This is year two of rebuilding for this area. You guys...I freaking LOVE graphic carving! I saw this design scrolling through IG and thought, man, I think that would be fun! And I adored it, and I adore these mountain mugs I made. 🏔💙 I have many more designs in my head, and I'm even taking a workshop in a couple of weeks at @frederickclaystudio to learn more about it! Hopefully, more of this vibe to come! Mug is handthrown in Tammy's Brown clay. I painted underglazes in the outlined circle, then carved out the lines. After the bisque fire, I added black underglaze to the carved areas and wiped with a sponge. I painted clear glaze on the outlined area, then waxed it. I poured cash blue glaze in the inside and white glaze on the outside. ❤️ Things I like: the height and shape of the mug, how the main glazes work so well with the design, & the handles (not shown) thumb rest. 📝 Things to work on: placement of the design & the glaze layering on the rim.
