We were so lucky in Alberta that the show happened on a beautifully warm, windless, moonless, relatively cloudless Friday evening which allowed so many people to get out to experience this event for themselves. I had to get a garden hose bath today, so mahm and me are chilling outside while I dry. She says May is melanoma awareness month. Since she’s a melahomie, she is staying in the shade while we play fetch. She also wears big goofy hats when we go on walkies. I don’t mind, I just want her healthy and to be able to play with me. 💜🐾💜🐾💜🐾 Mahm here. Last June I was diagnosed with two melanoma spots, and both required Mohs surgery to remove. Thanks to annual skin checks they were caught early. Please get yourself checked out. 10/100 of the #100peakschallengesd April 1: I challenged myself to hike a list of 100 peaks in San Diego County. About 6 weeks later, and I am 10% complete. I love to hike. Wherever I live, I like to think I find the best spots. Currently I live in San Diego, which offers more hiking than I know what to do with. Choosing a large list of diverse hikes has been a fun way to explore the area’s mountains, forests, trails, parks, and more. This is a large county with some wild variations in elevation. There is a lot to explore! Thanks to @100peaks for creating this list & keeping it up to date. I have been a more social hiker since starting this challenge, taking over half of these peaks with the company of various friends. I have challenged myself to more technical trails than I may have previously, overcoming fears and showing myself strength. I look forward to seeing where the next 10 hikes will take me ~ 1. "And you do!" Sue grinned at me. "It would be sunset. Because it's more accessible to people. Because the light hits differently, you get better colours. And because if I'm watching the sunset, it's normally because I'm having a great time outside in a beautiful place, and I love the feeling of closure that it gives me on a day. It just makes everything better." (Scroll 👉 for a behind the scenes with Sue 🙈) 🧡 As the sun sets on #MentalHealthAwareness week, this year's theme of 'movement' is something I have always felt strongly about. I often get asked or it's commented upon how I 'do so much', in terms of different outdoor activities and adventures. In reality a lot of that is down to my mental health. Movement - and especially prolonged, repetitive movement in the outdoors - is the only thing I've truly found which helps quieten the neurodivergent noise. The truth is though, I probably wouldn't be here and do what I do and have the experiences I have had without it. 🤫 Movement gives so many people freedom they wouldn't have otherwise, and the positive physical effects it has on us are widely known. Sue and I chatted about how wonderful cycling is for people for example, and I love that I have met so many incredible beings (like her!) through - and because of - movement in the outdoors. We are all connected through it, and for me, it forges bonds with an understanding of each other on a deeper level. Because I know what it feels like. Because I've been there. And because we are in this together. 💪 Movement for mental health is one of the key reasons I have since moved to Scotland. Being here inspires me to move in nature more. Chasing sunsets is a habit for me now. This week, I spent 4 brilliant days aboard tall ship, Bessie Ellen, with my good friend Gill (who I met 27 years ago, crossing the Indian Ocean, as part of Ocean Youth Club's world voyage). . We had very little wind and a fair bit of drizzle for the first two days, but there's still nothing better than life outside, with like minded individuals, a ship's dawg, and outstanding food... Since winning a spot on @mara_ocean_adventures 'Rewild and Free' expedition, last year, I've remembered a whole massive part of myself, that I guess I'd largely forgotten/ ignored, for the past ten years or so. And I'm hella glad to see her back, cos that girl had a LOT of fun! . THE best way to spend a Thursday eve…. This evening I was invited to join lovely Matt from our wonderful @saltdeanswimsurfclub to talk to the Rottingdean Beavers about Sea Safety. It was an hour of non stop fun within which we covered; ✅ Float to Live ✅ The beach flags and banners ✅ How to find the lifeguarded beaches this summer ✅ Lifeguard commands using flags and the whistle ✅ What are the hazards on our beaches ✅ What sort of wildlife we can look out for ✅ Practise paddling one of the surf life rescue boards ✅ Dress up as a lifeguard and practise a real life rescue using the rescue tubes. This eve was brilliantly led by Matt and a huge, huge pleasure to support 💙 thank you so much for having me along Matt and huge well done to all the children, you asked some awesome questions and took part in all the activities brilliantly. Halfway through my first time to Costa Rica - this truly feels like pure balanced living. Pura Vida makes sense now. 🧘♀️Mental: peaceful beach sunset moments to check in with self 💻 Career: feeling inspired by the career freedom and countless conversations around growth 🏍️ Adventure: challenging myself to try new things, like taking a 5 minute “crash” course before taking off on a dirt bike by myself for the week after never riding before 🌧️ Environment: being surrounds by and immersed in nature at all times, especially during the random downpours where you literally can’t hear anything else 🏄♀️ Physical: challenging myself BIG time (🥵) with a surf session that humbled me real fast 💃 Play: dancing and moving just because I wanted to enjoy myself 💗 Emotional: connecting back to my heart and body the morning after I arrived completely drained, stressed, and exhausted 🚶♀️Friends: meeting virtual friends irl for the first time and coming together to create and connect ✨Spiritual: being pulled out of my head as soon as I landed in Costa Rica to remind me what’s really important 🐒 Nature: seeing new animals and plants I’ve never seen in person but have always wanted to!
