Turning 30 and almost hitting that 200 lb mark was a huge wake up call for me last fall. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s autoimmune disease (hypothyroidism) back in 2019 and despite thryoid medication, the weight just piled on. I would cringe every time I saw myself in a photo. I experienced frequent swelling of my fingers and feet/ankles. I had joint pain. I would get winded just dancing with my kids. I knew I was spiraling down a dangerous road health-wise. I learned about insulin-resistant weight-gain. I did all the research and talked to my doctor about my options. I was prescribed one shot a week starting in November. I hit a personal milestone this week: 500 logged workouts since starting #streetparking 2 years ago. I’ve always made fitness a priority, but it used to look different for me. It used to be expensive gym memberships, gym buddies to keep me accountable, and cold, early mornings driving somewhere to get my workout in. I didn’t even like a lot of the workouts I was doing. Then life happened and I changed it up. I slowly accumulated things at home, starting with one set of 20# dumbbells that got me through the entire first year. I passed a CrossFit certification course. But it’s the mental discipline that makes it happen. You can have all the knowledge and equipment you want, but if you can’t make yourself get it done, it means nothing. Consistency matters. For me, fitness isn’t about the aesthetic. It’s always been about my health and being strong enough to handle what life throws my way. It’s about my sanity. It’s even about staying warm in the winter (it’s the only thing that works 🥶😄) Now it’s as much a habit as brushing my teeth. It’s the best part of my day. Q: We are in the throes of renovating our double fronted Victorian in Newport. I'm interested to know what size cornice you went for, as we have 3.6m ceilings. Also what size skirting boards and architraves? A：3.6m ceilings is delightful! Assuming it's a pretty big room and you want the ornate Victorian look, you could go as wide as 300mm or close to it on the ceiling, and similar on the wall! With period features like this it's soo important to get the proportions right! St. Andrews Churchyard, West Linton - This gorgeous stone shows a man and his son. The stone is severely worn, so much so that most of the text is illegible. I *think* we're looking at a date around 1709. The words "Here Lyes" are barely visible and the rest are nearly imperceptible. I'm going to be back here again and I hope to spend more time with these stones and see if I can pick up more information!
