Street outreach is one of the easiest forms of activism but has the potential to change people's mindsets in one conversation. I was vegetarian, unaware I was still contributing to such horrific animal exploitation when I came across a cube of truth for the first time 5 years ago. I'd never seen anything like what was on the screens before and I was horrified. After a few days of processing what I'd seen and the conversation I'd had, I was vegan. Within a month I was standing there with the same group helping others to make the connection. Join us in front of the Canadian Embassy in London to express our support for the convicted Excelsior 4 activists, Amy Soranno & Nick Schafer, who will be receiving their sentencing on October 12th. In April 2019, they were part of a peaceful demonstration at the "Excelsior Hog Farm" in Abbotsford, BC, Canada and joined other activists in exposing horrific criminal animal cruelty. Instead of holding the farm accountable, Amy & Nick were found guilty. All info on the trial ➡️ www.excelsior4.org DETAILS & DRESS Signs, props, and leaflets will be provided. Please wear black or blue if possible. If you have a MTV or E4 shirt, please wear it. Dress for the weather and bring water. We will have screens to play footage and to hook up to the MTV live stream where they will announce the sentencing. There will be speakouts, songs, outreach opportunities, and other acts of solidarity. Since all of the components of the sentencing trial have been concluded, we anticipate the court date will only be compromised of the judge delivering his final remarks and sentencing decision. They begin in court at 4:30pm UK time so we expect to receive an update and tune into the livestream a couple hours thereafter. We are starting the event at 3pm as the embassy closes at 4pm. Please arrive whenever you can and stay for as long as you can. CODE OF CONDUCT This is a peaceful protest. We will remain calm and non-violent at all times. Here are ways we can reduce pollution in our city, both what we as individuals can do and what we can encourage our government to do: 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒔 • Turn off the lights every time you leave the room and apply this not only to your home but also your places of work. I'd also highly recommend switching to energy saving fluorescent lights to further reduce your impact. • Avoid using fireworks and sparklers when Guy Fawkes night and New Years comes around. I know it creates a pretty display but there are alternative ways to celebrate that not only reduce your pollution contribution but also are safer for all, don't forget about the layer of smog that all spectators breath in! If you're looking for other ways to celebrate, please consider throwing a fun party with glowsticks and firework themed foods. • Bike when possible, use public transport when not. Ditch your fuel guzzling cars for a friendly morning ride to work, you might even make a new friend along the way 😉 or even reconnect with your soul! • Use environmentally safe cleaning products, these will be chemical-free. Not only will these reduce the amount of pollution you contribute, but it has other advantages. Today I went to visit the Pollution Pods at King's Cross, outside @csmsp_fashion 🌬 Swipe across to see the cities that were recreated, can you tell which was the worst? New Delhi's pod had so much pollution that the air felt dense around me, it was hard to remain inside for more than seconds before it became too much to handle. Coming out of the pods, I was suddenly really aware of the air around me and the pollution we have just become accustomed to. So accustomed that being in the Trondheim pod felt weird. Nick Georges, 69, scaled a 650ft crane next to the US Embassy in Nine Elms earlier this week and planted a Palestinian flag on it. The activist spent 30 hours up there after he climbed up in the early hours of Tuesday morning - describing it as the most terrifying thing he's done in his life. He has since been hauled down by the police and is currently on bail awaiting trial at Stafford Crown Court on January 4, 2022. In 2019 there were over 200,000 discharges of untreated sewage into UK rivers and almost 2,000 discharges into UK coastal bathing waters during the May-September bathing season alone. When this year has brought about a more intune awareness to the necessity of our green and clean watery spaces, we absolutely need our Government to continue listening and adopting Phillip Dunne MP’s Sewage (Inland Waters) Private Members Bill. The Bill will make sure water companies stop discharging raw sewage into rivers, lakes and waterways in England. Shown here is waterways around the Olympic Park showing overflows because blockages are not being checked correctly, so the sewers are overflowing (photo from @ldnwaterkeeper). The sheer volume of sewage and run-off entering the water means the UK is ranked just 25th out of 30 EU countries for coastal water quality and only 16% of waterways meet good ecological status. And we're only in there when we fancy it, so what about all of the wildlife that call it home? The Bill is going through Parliament RIGHT NOW and we need you help to make sure that MPs support the bill. Your MP represents you in parliament, and you have the power to demand they show up for rivers when the Bill is debated on November 13th 2020. This weekend 6 of us london activists joined local activist in the Isle of Man for a weekend of activism. The first action was an anti-fur protest outside of Flannels. . Flannels sell real fur from brands like D&G and Canada goose. For fur, animals are skinned alive. Fur coat trims are often made out of coyote skin, coyote are in the canine family, so it’s like wearing a dead dog. 😖 . Where in London this would’ve been a small protest where it wouldn’t have gotten a lot of attention, in the Isle of Man the protest was news and the Facebook post on their page was one fi the most engagement recently, it got over 200 comments and 10 shares. . This peaceful protest got a lot of conversation and had a lot of support and incredible response from the locals. Many people we spoke with find the use of real fur so barbaric that they didn’t know that it’s still being used. (Fur farm has been banned in the uK since 2000, but the sale of it has not.) . I’m very thankful all the local vegans, activist and everyone who supported our anti-fur protest! 🙏 . This was the first protest that I lead the chant because I was the only one able to shout loud enough for a long time! 😆 (thanks childhood bullies, our fights gave me lots of practice!). I’m actually really scared of attention and never thought I would be able to do such a thing. My passion for injustice to the non-humans animals have me bravery! . Today as it’s Martin Luther king Jr day, so I thought I’d finish this post with a quote which I think it’s suitable. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” . So I encourage you to speak up! Shout loud! Fight for something!

This is an important time in the campaign for health equality because we have a new UK Government in place where every MP vote and seat counts, and we have lots of new MPs because of the General Election, so it’s important as a constituent to engage them and their local staff in what you care about. Furthermore, mental health was in the manifestos of all the political parties as an important issue to tackle so that they are more accountable to show they are working towards better mental health support. The issue of mental health is finally becoming less of a taboo. It is being discussed more and features more frequently in the media and in daily conversation. Sadly one in four of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year. I truly believe (and so do Mind) that we can make a positive difference with these positive notes. A brain is not evolved for rationality, happiness or accurate perception. Neuroscience and contemporary theories of the brain agree with Buddhist teaching, that the brain is not designed to see reality. We understand this more than ever, so how does this effect how we work as activists to create change? ✨ By understanding the latest theories of the brain, combined with practices of insight and reflection, we can make our work more effective and understand better the challenges of change making. This work draws from empirical research, developing, delivering and evaluating programmes in change making organisations.
