Each month of the Jewish year is packed with rich correspondences for sacred arts and spiritual alignment/growth that lend themselves towards an energetic naming of the moon energy. Historically a lot of the correspondences like Hebrew letter and tribe are derived from the Sefer Yetzirah. Kyjah was born into an ancestry of mystics. Kyjah has mystics on both her Jewish and Cuban sides of her family. She herself is a talented and intuitive mystic who feels called to work with the magical realm. Growing up part time in Mexico her first tarot teacher instilled in her a deep connection with the tarot at a very young age. Because of this she has been looking through the lens of the tarot her entire life. Kyjah grew up traveling the world with her mom who played in bands, carnivals, freakshows, set up museum of oddities, taught workshops and was homeschooled. She focused her studies on literature, botany, magic, psychology, acting, improvisation and dance. She did not have to find magic, it was infused in her life from the womb. Plants and nutrition were taught to her as medicine When she was sick, herbalists and cuaranderas were called to help heal her. All this taught her ways of connecting to her divine self and enables her to channel messages. Today she is focusing on studying herbs, reading tarot and teaching mystic arts. She is currently teaching glamour magic and tea blending. One of the many benefits of de-centering Ashkenazi Judaism is that we get to learn about the wide variety of amazing Jewish practices around the Diaspora. For example Mimouna! Originating with North African Jewry, the celebration of Mimouna brings Pesach to an end, with community and all the delicious chametz-laden sweets forbidden for the 8 days of Passover. Many communities around the Jewish Diaspora have started to adopt this beautiful practice as a way to bring Pesach to a close. These are difficult, heart-wrenching times. As a facilitator with lived experience across many intersectional identities, I believe we need a starting point. I offer these prompts as a personal invitation for deeper reflection. However, before attempting to step into unfamiliar shoes, I call you home- home to your own context. Globally, I return to the beginning: contextualizing myself as a Boricua of the Diaspora living on Turtle Island. How did we get here? What did we buy into?
