Rebecca is finally moving from Manchester to a fabulous new home by the coast in Cornwall with husband Tom and their young son Sam. Tom has been working on the house to get it just how they want it, they could only afford this extravagant home due to the inheritance she gained when her father passed away and that is a bittersweet pill for her to swallow. She makes friends with Chloe who, on the surface, seems lovely but Tom keeps warning her that Chloe is dangerous, what is it about these two and why did Tom really want to make this move? You Me Her is centred around the three main characters; Rebecca, Tom and Chloe. When Rebecca first arrives in Cornwall everything seems fine, she loves the house and what Tom has done to it and can’t wait to make it their forever home, but then Chloe appears on the scene, Tom introduces her as the estate agent that helped him find the house, but then warns Rebecca to stay away from her, not long after strange things start to happen, that nobody can explain. I found Tom to be a rather odd character who didn’t like anyone Rebecca was linked to, none more so than Rosa, who had been Rebecca’s best friend since nursing her father through his illness, although the feeling seemed to be completely reciprocated, but the piece de resistance was the surprise Tom presented her with which sent her spiralling back to the nightmare of her past, why would he do that to her? This latest thriller by Watson is, as her previous thrillers, a fast paced read with lots of twists and turns that I found really hard to put down once I’d started reading and, even though I guessed about two chapters from the end, what the outcome was going to be, this in no way spoilt my enjoyment of this tense and twisty tale that had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Whenever I pick up a new book by @mandi_blake_author I know I can expect the following: 💕super sweet romance 💕a story with wholesome values and healthy relationships being promoted 💕Christian themes that are naturally woven into the characters’ lives 💕prayer in action 💕fabulous side characters that give a sense of found family 💕plots that have depth while being entertaining and inspiring Love for a Lifetime did not disappoint in any of these and delivered a sweet and swoony love story I really enjoyed. I was looking forward to Dawson’s story from the moment he was introduced in Mandi’s other book and let me tell you, he’s just as dreamy of a hero as I had imagined. I loved the reels (ThGoatGuy and all the chickens) and just how loyal and happy he was when he easily could have been cynical from his job. The way he cared for Olivia was 🥰. Dawson and Olivia had such a great connection. I loved the mix of best friend’s little sister/friends to more romance. Their happily ever after made me smile so much. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare (@cassieclare1) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When I first read this it was a five star (like a lot of stuff I first read was), but upon reread it is a four. I enjoy that I am getting more of the story by reading the books the way that Cassandra Clare recommends I do still have dislikes. Nicola is heading to the Isle of Skye for a romantic weekend with her boyfriend Matt to see the Northern Lights, sadly it’s not going to be as romantic as Matt wanted due to the babysitter letting them down and them having to take Nicola’s six year old son George with them and, it looks like their luck is cursed, as when they arrive at the luxury hotel he’s booked he’s got the wrong week, the hotel is fully booked, and they’re in the middle of a snowstorm. They have no choice but to take up the recommendation of the only place with available rooms, The Loch House and, on arrival, it’s obvious why they have vacancies. With the hosts resembling, in Matt’s words, The Addams Family and a very strange set of guest house rules, the couple are unsure how this weekend will pan out. The Last Guest House is set on the remote and atmospheric Isle of Skye, it’s a dark and chilling read with the story being told by three of the main characters. It’s evident when Nicola and Matt arrive that this is no ordinary guest house and when they learn of its troubled past they are pleased they’re only staying there for the one night, but nothing prepares them for how long that night is going to be, and the events that follow. This latest thriller by Mitchell has a well written plot about a group of eclectic characters that find themselves thrown together unexpectedly. There were far too many questionable decisions from characters in the book for me, but then I guess that this shows the complexities of families. It’s a fast paced read, jam packed with intense moments that had me on the edge of my seat throughout and I just didn’t want to put it down. It’s a well crafted, dark plot with mainly likeable characters, but I just could not take to one of them, in the beginning they were just ‘too nice’ and as the story progressed I could see that my instincts had been right, as the old saying goes ‘ if something seems too good to be true, it usually is’. I developed a real soft spot for Nicci’s dad Pete, he was adorable! At the Captain’s Table…my thoughts. Can you tell I’m on the countdown to the holidays?! Dreaming of blue skies and Vitamin Sea…if you are in the same boat ( #sorrynotsorry ) The Empress of the Ocean takes us round the Mediterranean with quite the group of characters. My favourite by far is little Oliver, the epitome of old soul, young boy. He’s 12 but with quirky, delightfully old fashioned manners and he’s not afraid to ask questions. Questions that go down well with some better than others. Edna and Miriam are brilliant characters who say exactly what they, and probably everyone else is thinking, without fear or understanding. I really felt for Frances, proving that money doesn’t buy you everything and of course I’ll always love an author character. The blend of characters on board makes this book what it is- Arthur in the laundry room had me chuckling out loud. If you have enjoyed the Yorkshire school books Gervase has previously written this will feel like a summery but cosy version as there are definite similarities but with shimmering seas as the backdrop. As I’m not going on a Mediterranean cruise anytime soon, the @nagsheadonthames provided this stunning back drop and the wine choice jumped out at me. It’s called Sauvignon Buitenverwachting Coastal…which means Beyond Coastal; what a perfect match for a cruise based book. And just like the characters it’s lively- tropical flavours with just an element of gooseberries! I could well imagine sitting on a balcony watching the sea glide by. I found this a good read not as ruthless as some of her other books have been but I’m hoping that will change as the series continues.The ending was a bit abrupt but definitely leaves you on tenderhooks for the next book. This story is so well crafted, with complex characters who all seemed to have something to hide, and lots of red herrings thrown into the mix, I really had no clue at all where it was heading, changing my mind countless times as to who was responsible, though I did eventually guess who the perpetrator was further down the line. In true Douglas style this is a fast paced, suspense filled read with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat and flicking the pages of my kindle like there was no tomorrow. Jess and Will have just celebrated their wedding anniversary and are all loved up. The Split is a dual narrative story told alternately from the perspectives of Jessica and Will, the first half of the book is a slow burner where Lynes artistically weaves her web of lies and deceit and draws the reader in. From early on in the story, with the clues the author was dropping, I was certain I’d guessed a couple of things about certain characters and one thing I was sure of was that nobody could be trusted, least of all the suave and debonair Ian Robbins who took pity on Will in a pub one night and decided to help him out, but to what end? The second half of the book is where the author starts to ramp up the suspense and the secrets just come flooding out thick and fast, bringing together the pieces of the puzzle very nicely. WHAT A READ. Long overdue but well worth the wait. Strong females as we’ve come to expect from Martina Cole,each facing difficult challenges head on and coming out the other side more wiser and stronger. Brutal and gripping and at times heartbreaking. I liked that I didn’t know where we were heading from 3/4 of the way in but but everything came together in the end perfectly. The Perfect Christmas Village…my thoughts. This is Christmas perfection- it has everything you need and more… Blythe needs one more house sale to continue her reign as the top salesperson. She only has one possible option, Sam and he’s a tricky, almost reluctant customer, she’s going to need something special. Does she find it? Of course she does… But there are a couple of issues- mainly Holly Cross, the most Christmassy village outside of Lapland and Sam makes the Grinch look chirpy. Oh and the house is not actually for sale!!! I love the way Blythe sets out to fix everything for everyone. She’s brilliant, even if it doesn’t always go to plan. Sam is just as loveable in his own grumpy way and it’s great to see him open up. Vicky is the best friend for Blythe, I really hope she gets a sequel for her and Eden. I also love stepdad, Greg his quiet advice is something we could all use at times. I want to visit Holly Cross (actually live there) community feel, multi-generational, a little mystery, a competitive element, joyous romance, Norman’s pastries, dinner with Hot Santa’s and a proper pub at the heart of it all. Oh I just loved it all! In keeping with the local village feel, I’ve paired it with this local English wine from A’Becketts vineyard just down the road from us. Their Pinot Auxerrois is fresh and light due to the lemon and peach flavours with hawthorn blossom notes- it tastes like the English countryside. I love the story behind this husband and wife team, they would fit right in at Holly Cross and I can well imagine it behind the bar with at The Highway Inn. I heart…everything here! I love the I heart series, and anything @lindseykelk writes in general- I’ve gone back to revisit the early ones after an amazing zoom with Lindsey herself. This one sees Angela stand on her own feet whilst her husband is travelling. As we expect from Angela, there are situations that don’t quite go to plan with both heart warming and hilarious outcomes. I love Angela as she’s so wonderfully one of us! Who else would gatecrash a Tiffany proposal, navigate redundancy, accidentally encourage her assistant to set up a rival company, fancy dress when it should have been classy dress, and have a washing machine land in her kitchen all the while missing her husband and keeping a little secret too. She’s joy in written form and I really want to be her friend! Take Manhattan gearing up for the festive season, throw in some good friends, love, drama, eye rolling family moments and a bit of magic and you have a perfect read for this time of year. Of course, the pairing here is easy; I heart Prosecco for a Friday Fizz! This is the Rosé version; Rosé isn’t just for summer! I love the fresh taste of fruits with the light bubbles and would be absolutely perfect to toast one of my favourite ever characters Jenny Lopez. Once again Yarros has shown her ability to tug at the heart strings and leave me emotionally wrecked 🥹 From the very first page I was taken on a journey of emotions. The dual POV and dual timelines seamlessly intertwines the past and the present, as they navigate their way through life with their personal struggles whilst also yearning for each other. The characters are flawed yet relatable, The romance is so heartwarming and genuine. The chemistry was electrifying. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what heart break or unexpected twist was around the corner. This was a completely addictive story and I had no idea where it was heading. Part physiological thriller, part police procedural, The Fake Wife had me hooked and at times confused, but in a good way. A chance meeting in a hotel is just the beginning of this wild ride. The weather is wild in the north of England, snowstorms are causing havoc on the roads and an MPs wife is missing and there is a raid on a known criminal's home. Action galore. But who can be trusted? Everyone in this story has secrets, and big ones at that. It will shock you; it will make you need to know more.  I loved Garry and Lexy, the police who were looking into the missing woman. Their banter was definitely a highlight. Happy Pub Day! 🎉 As soon as I saw this one up on Net Galley I requested it. Cunningham is a go to author. Review: Written on the same date, April 5, of 2019, 2020 and 2021, Day focuses is on one family in New York City and the tidbits of life on that day each year. Yes, this is a pandemic novel but it is never really mentioned specifically. The reader only knows by the dates the book takes place that virus has affected this family deeply. Robbie is the central character in the sense that the other characters in this story move mostly in his sphere for the purpose of the story. Robbie is the brother to Isabel, and brother in law to Dan. Violet and Nathan are the children of Isabel and Dan and Robbie, who lives in the attic for the first bit of the story, plays a special role in all their lives. The author notes in the synopsis that Dan and Isabel are both a little in love with Robbie. Robbie is the glue holding this family together and once Robbie is asked to move out to accommodate one of the children growing up and needing their own space, the strings holding this mobile begin to sever. This is my third novel by Cunningham and I absolutely adored it. I found the short glimpses of the characters’ lives and of their inner emotions to be beautiful and affecting. Like Cunningham’s previous books that I have read, there is a cinematic quality where the camera pans in and out of each room and the reader is believed to be astute enough to read between the lines. Subplots of parental rights add to the complicated family story. I can’t speak highly enough of this stunning literary creation and hope it finds its way into many readers’ hands. The Story of our Secrets…my thoughts. I’m a long term fan of Shari Low and this one sums up why. I’ve previously read Story of our Lives and knew I would be coming back to Colm, Flora and the gang- thank you @kindleunlimited Shari has such a talent for creating characters that you care about and want to revisit which in turn evokes all the emotions. Colm passes away far too young and leaves behind him lots of broken hearts, not least his two wives, young daughter, 2 sons and a best friend…looking at that list it has the potential to be complicated but of course, it’s written so well that you understand each of the characters and who they are from the get go. It’s written in dual point of view which works so perfectly here as you can easily see where the miscommunications occur as each of the group navigates their way through losing the glue that kept them altogether. And then just when they need it Colm sends the message no-one knew he would; even though he’s not there, it seems as though he still knows when he is needed. (Get your tissues ready) Shauna is stronger than she knows and I loved that it was Jess that showed her just how strong she can be. Dan is one of my favourite characters ever- the man has the patience of a saint! There is dodgy family dynamics, dating disasters, rugby visits and some cracking girls nights- with plenty of bottles of wine! I’ve gone for a Sauvignon Blanc tonight as I think it would be Shauna approved! It’s a go to Thursday for me- in terms of both books and wine!  🤔💭: I first came across Barelli when I read her book The Housekeeper and loved it. I have since read several of her books and I can always count on her to deliver a solid thriller. Finders Keepers definitely did not disappoint! It’s a unique premise with a lot of twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I found Emily’s character to be realistically annoying and easy to dislike while Rose was perfectly snarky and sarcastic. Barelli just does characters so well! The Burnout…my thoughts. Happy Friday…we made it! Friday seemed like the ideal time to post about this one as it has work life balance at its core. This is Sophie Kinsella at her very best; and Sasha had moments where she gave me solid Becky Bloomwood vibes. I loved every page of this book. Sasha has had enough and cannot take any more, so far, so relatable. After something of a meltdown (funny but shouldn’t be) at work, her Mum convinces/forces her into some time off and books her a trip to Rilston Bay. Rilston Bay only has happy memories and it seems like the ideal place to get herself into a better state of mind. Armed with everything she needs, and more she embarks on a journey of self discovery and honestly it’s hilarious. Sasha is a bit of all of us for sure- the intention to eat healthy, do more yoga and focus on the good is easy to say but is it easy to do? The universe answers her calls and steps up in the shape of Finn. A grouchy, rude man with a temper- at first not what Sasha needs at all but thrown together they discover neither are who they seem. A relatable story with a lovable mc, gorgeous seaside setting, a book boyfriend to fall for, an element of mystery and scenes that make you laugh out loud- classic Sophie and immediately one of my favourites to date. Whilst in Italy, I found this perfect bottle to go with the cover of The Burnout and took a shot. It paid off; it’s crisp and packs a punch with strong citrus flavours- ideal for Sasha’s detox! There is a touch of salt which shouldn’t work in a wine but in this case it really does and works perfectly to pair with a book that spends a good amount of its time by the sea. This is locally produced and you could taste the quality; wine produced from the soils of Mount Vesuvius is always going to be one worth trying, it’s a definite recommend from me. Izzy & Lucas are given the same shift on the hotels front desk and they have no choice but to put their differences aside to see it through but when Izzy returns a guests lost wedding ring, the reward convinces the owners this might be a way to fix everything. However with four rings still in the lost and found the race is on to save their beloved hotel and their jobs. As their rivalry turns into something more complicated, can the two of them make it through the season with their hearts intact? 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - This was such a fun enemies to lovers book which was so light hearted and easy to read. It has a dual POV which I always love in a book and the setting was just perfect for this time of year. At the beginning of the book I didn’t feel instantly connected like I normally do with Beth’s books however as the story went on I started warming to both the main characters. Lucas took the longest to grow on me but what I loved was that he says going to the gym is his release. I completely get that! As someone that runs, if I don’t run then I get real irritable and restless. The side characters were so endearing, there was lots of back story that brought so much heart to the book as well as lots of humour that had some LOL moments. Although the book contains the miscommunication trope the clever twist that is threaded in worked perfectly well. There are also some light touches on some harder topics such as; divorce, cheating, death of parents which was done so perfectly. This was the perfect book to read this time of year.
