Here are 5 Questions to ask yourself before you start your training for a marathon! 1. Do you have time to train? Marathons require a lot of effort starting with a time commitment. Can you plan to run at least 4 days out of the week in your current schedule? One of those days should be a long run between 1-4 hours! Will you have the block of time available to complete a long run? 2. Are you healthy? This should be the key determinant in deciding if you are ready for a marathon. Also, have you suffered a recent injury? If so, how severe/debilitating was it to your body? Are you fully recovered? 3. Have you been a runner for at least 3-6 months? (a year is better!) It takes time for your body to get used to running and really adapt to the rigors and stresses of the sport, the energy pathways that it uses, the muscle fibers that it recruits, etc. Give yourself time to really develop your stamina and energy for long distance running and lay a firm (but more health focused/recreational) running base. 4. Can you easily run for at least 4 miles? Build up to being able to run continuously (or at a steady run/walk if you are planning on employing that method during your marathon race). Your marathon training plan will then help you to continue to build your endurance through your long runs on that base that you have already set. 5. Do you run at least 15-20 miles every week? Marathon training calls for running higher mileages every week. Give yourself a base and don’t start training until you are comfortable with running 15-20+ miles a week. ⚡Looking for a marathon training plan? Here are some long distance running tips that you can use to help you while you are out completing your long run! 1. Give yourself things to look forward to. Run your favorite part of a route towards the end. Hold off on your favorite songs until you need them most. Create an “End of Long Run” music playlist. Include only your absolute favorite songs on this list. Play it during the final miles of your long run. For sure mine includes Celine Dion’s “I believe in you”. :) Bribe a friend to meet you at a certain point to give you encouragement. Find a friend to run even just part (3-4 miles) of your long run with you. 2. Every 2-5 miles, or as needed, stop and stretch! This will help to keep you feeling flexible, can reduce the amount of muscle soreness you experience after your run and will give you a mental as well as physical break from all of the running. Your legs, arms, and core are doing the same cyclic movements over and over and over again for miles at a time. They are constantly contracting and relaxing only to contract again. Not only does it feel wonderful but it will help to ease out stiffness that might be building. 3. Plant or carry a favorite snack. Sometimes, especially for first time marathoners, you need to think outside of performance and consider how you will persevere best. So if what you need are oreos to get you through then eat the oreos. Run by your favorite donut shop along your route. Stop for a coffee. I usually refuel through my energy drink during long runs but I also love bringing treats with me. The gummy Lifesaver candy is my favorite...and quite appropriate for the task at hand. ;) How do you reward yourself when you are finished with your long run? . . . #marathonerintraining #themarathon #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #mondayrun #mondayrunday #maketime #maketimeforwhatmatters #maketimenotexcuses #maketimeforit #runningisnotcancelled #runnersofig #runnersofinsta #igrunner #igrunning #distancerunner #distancerunners #longdistancerunner #longdistancerunning #longrunday #winthelongrun #longruns #runningtraining #runfar

I have a free 20 Week Marathon Training Schedule download for you over on my site at: 💥www.all-about-marathon-training.com/20-week-marathon-training-schedule.html This training plan is one of three marathon plans that is used inside the Run Your First Marathon Training Program! Who is this marathon training schedule For? For this specific 20 week marathon training schedule I would recommend the following before you begin: Be comfortable with running at least 3-4 miles. If you can't physically run 4 miles yet you might consider waiting to begin this schedule and build more of a running base until you are more comfortable with that distance. If you are able to run/walk 4 miles, that would also be a good starting point, especially if you were considering using run/walk intervals during the marathon. A good training strategy is to always start at the running level you are at. It is much safer for you to be comfortable running the 4 mile distance and progressing from there then having the very first week of your training (which doesn’t have a “long run” scheduled) already be challenging for you. If you aren't quite ready yet, wait and keep building up your endurance. Curious? Interested? Correct marathon nutrition is critical for optimal performance and training. As you begin to increase your weekly mileage and your long runs you will also need to become more aware of what food you are taking in. The more you run, the more energy you expend and the more you need to take in the right fuel/energy sources. Your Nutrition Goal as a Marathoner: Your goal is not to lose weight but to be nutritious and take in the right food (fuel) that is need in order to utilize it for energy that will make you capable of running long distances! The key is in eating a balanced diet! Eating well while training for a marathon does not mean that you need to start strictly counting calories or carbs. It means eating when you are hungry and eating to build your energy reserves. If you are wondering what your EXACT fuel needs - how many grams of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins you personally need each day, as well as how to menu plan and eat as a runner, prep and recover for long runs & race days, then I recommend my ✨EAT LIKE A MARATHONER Nutrition Course. 3 of the Best Things You can Do Before Beginning Marathon Training: 1. Properly rehabilitate any injuries whether full blown or lingering. Maybe this is the time to do some extra physical therapy or book some chiropractor appointments. Marathon training demands so much of your time, therefore front load this time when you are not officially training with any appointments that you know you need to make but just don't have the time for when you are training. 2. Focus your cross training on strength training (especially any weak areas of your body) and exercises that elongate your body such as Pilates and yoga. You may even take this time when you are not running super high mileage to really get in extra stretching sessions. 3. If there is a long time between your marathon races then consider doing a shorter race such as a 10K race or a half marathon. This will help to keep your body in tune, give you a feel for the race atmosphere and experience and keep you motivated and excited for what's to come! Running a race (depending on where you are coming from in your running year) can be such a great stepping stone into a marathon training plan so be sure to catch the offer at the bottom of this email if you want to challenge yourself to a half marathon soon! . . . #marathonready #marathonfinisher #marathontips #marathonmaniacs #marathonmom #marathonrunning #marathonprep #marathonmotivation #themarathoncontinues #marathonerintraining #themarathon #marathoners #marathonmama #marathonrecovery #marathoncontinues #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner

Little legs, big dreams! ✨ Back in October, before I crossed the finish line of my first full marathon, our daughter, Kairi, surprised us at dinner with an ambitious declaration: "I want to be a marathoner like Mommy and Daddy!" She'd seen it all firsthand: the early mornings and late nights, the dedication, the sacrifices we made to train. Even witnessed the "alone time" we needed to squeeze in runs. Yet, her determination shone through, "Being a marathoner is hard, right? Because you have to keep training," she said, her eyes filled with resolve.🥺😭 While it'll be a long road (13-14 years to be exact!), we're ready to be her biggest cheerleaders every step of the way. Supporting her in reaching for her dreams, no matter how big they seem.❤️🥰 Kairi's holding my medal to practice her Post-marathon pose daw 🏅😁 @thebullrunner @tbrdream Batch 2038?😅 #FutureMarathoner #KairiTheDreamer #ProudParents #TBRbaby #kairibells chose the music for this post since her Daddy always calls her, "My Ms. Universe!"🤩

Want to know one thing that will make all the difference between whether you are able to pull yourself through the hardest miles of the marathon race? It's your mindset. 🎉The Mindset Training Plan for Marathoners (Link in my Bio) will help you push through the hardest parts of your marathon training and your marathon race so that you can cross that finish line with no regrets! You've probably heard, (and oh how true it is!) that the marathon is 20% a physical test and 80% a mental test. But if that's the case why do we put in all of the physical training but do nothing to train our minds? The very thing that can determine whether we are strong enough to complete a marathon and achieve our goals?! You are putting in so much time, energy, and miles but if you leave mental training out of the process, your marathon race can head south very quickly around that 20 mile marker... This could be you right now: -You feel a little daunted by the distance of 26.2 miles -You wonder if you will even be able to finish. That last training run was hard enough. - -You're not sure you are covering all of your bases in training for such a huge accomplishment. -You have come to realize through your long runs that there is truth in the saying that the marathon really is 20% physical and 80% mental. Mindset Training is for you. 🎉It is for ALL marathoners who want to cross the finish line! The struggle is real in my brain right now! So much of what has been rolling on repeat is full of self doubt disguised as new approaches to seeking my goals. I have been struggling an grappling with internal arguments about why I am not where I want to be. So, to combat that and get myself realigned with my goals, I have worked to strip down my activities, shifted my mindset practices, and am now back to basics. This is not me starting over. This isn’t new year, new me. This is me reclaiming my path, owning my struggles, and prioritizing and fighting for what I want out of my life. #goalchaser #investinyourself #selflove #motivation #seizingthefuture #goals #theselfdevelopmenttools #loveyourselfenoughtochange #mindovermatter #dailyhabits #habitbuilding #habits #habitstacking #bedifferent #bebetter #inspirationoftheday #wordsoftheday #dreambigorgohome #mindsetiseverything #futuremarathoner #consistencyiskey #progressnotperfection

Weekly training recap 😵‍💫 Been very tired lately so just haven't been keeping up on socials. Slide 1: Monday trail walk with @c_lkenny . Legs weren't feeling it after 18 the weekend before, so we had a nice stroll through Dutch Gap. The full loop was open finally! 3.89 walking miles (Goal: 5 miles) Slide 2: WOTC Wednesday Night Extras ✨ Wednesday crew had me moving quick. 🏃🏼‍♀️💨 Loved getting in some nighttime trails. 4.54 miles (Goal: 9 miles) Slide 3: RRRC WMTT Week 13 🫠 So many hills. So much Riverside drive. Walked more than I probably should've but had 10 miles of trails the next day. 12 miles (Goal: 12 miles) Slide 4: Bear Creek 10 miler with @weoffthecouch ! 🗣️🗣️🗣️ Man this year was much more fun than last year, despite all the ankle deep mud! Was nice having a group to keep pace with 💕 Teamwork getting over logs and through streams. 😍 Garmin shorted me on this though, I know the course is 10.4 miles 🤪 10.4 miles (Goal: 5 miles) Gear changes three weeks out: I upgraded my pack to something larger. Need more space for snacks, a jacket, etc. I can fit so many things in this new pack. I'm also going to need to break in my new Revivos. Burned through the tread a little quicker than I would've liked on my current trainers 😅 Marathon training will be wrapping up so soon. That's crazy! It felt like it would take so long to get through these weeks, but THE BIG ONE -20 MILES- is this Saturday and then on to taper. I'm less than three weeks out from Shamrock ☘️. I can't believe I've made it this far. . . . . . . #jaykneeruns #wintermarathontraining #trainingrecap #marathontraining #rvaisforrunners #weoffthecouch #runlikeagirl #futuremarathoner

Half marathon training is a sweet distance for long distance runners who don't want to commit to the full marathon. As half marathon lovers say, "Half the distance and twice the fun". A lot of runners (about 2x as many in fact) believe that 13.1 miles is the way to go. The benefits of running a half marathon vs. running a full marathon are numerous: - less recovery time - less training time - less race time involved - all with the same adrenaline rushing hype as the marathon And, it's one of the best stepping stones to completing a full marathon. Things to do Before you Begin half marathon training 1. Ask yourself if you are really ready to start training 2. Gather any gear that you might need As a runner all you need is some guts, motivation, and a good pair of running shoes. Do a quick shoe assessment to see if you are wearing durable, healthy shoes. Think about what other things you might need along the way. Sunscreen, hat, a better running watch? Do you need to carry supplies in your car? Bandaids? 3: Choose the best half marathon training plan! 4. Write down your half marathon race goal + your WHY For more complete details + some half marathon training guides, check out my page: 🎉https://www.all-about-marathon-training.com/half-marathon-training.html Is running a half marathon one of your running goals for 2024? . . . #goalsetters #goalsettings #halfmarathons #halfmarathonrunner #runahalfmarathon #halfmarathonprep #halfmarathoner #halfmarathongoals #halfmarathonfinisher #halfmarathonhereicome #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #trainhardraceeasy #rungoals #trainingprogram #trainingprograms #trainingplan #trainingplans #beginnerrunner #starttorun #runningthoughts #justrunning #runningcoach

The other day I posted about my 32 Week Marathon Training plan (💥link in my bio) and today I'm going to give you a few ideas on how you could alter that schedule. Walking or Running Walking with Using this Plan: This plan isn't just for runners, you could think about power walking a marathon using this program or doing run/walk intervals versus steady paced running. Rescheduling your long runs: Your long run is scheduled for Sundays however you could move this to Saturdays. If you chose to do this, simply adjust everything by one day so that your long run falls on Saturday, your rest day on Sunday and then begin the first of your short, base runs on Monday. Add in Other Running Workouts: Just because this training plan does not implement any quality workouts doesn't mean that you can't. If you are feeling a bit stale just doing easy paced base runs and long runs a good entry level running workout that you might enjoy is the tempo run. Tempo runs can be done once a week and for this specific training plan a good day to do them would be on Tuesday or Thursday. Incorporating Cross Training into this Plan: There is no scheduled cross training on this marathon training schedule however if you would like to include a day of cross training then feel free to do so on one of your rest days. For this training plan, Wednesday would make a great day for cross training. If you are interested at all, check out the link in my bio! . . . #marathonready #marathontips #marathonprep #marathonmotivation #themarathoncontinues #marathonerintraining #themarathon #marathoners #marathonrecovery #marathoncontinues #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #trainhardraceeasy #rungoals #trainingprogram #trainingprograms #trainingplan #trainingplans #runninggoals #runningprogam #runallthemiles #runningmakesmehappy #runnerlifestyle

They say grief wears a million faces, but none quite like your own. I never knew the crushing weight of it until I lived it myself when we lost our second child. But in the quiet moments of prayer, a spark ignited. The warmth of loved ones, the strength within whispered, "Don't just survive, RISE." As some of you may know, this Feb18, I am running the @tbrdream Marathon, stronger than I was months ago– physically, mentally, spiritually. It's been a journey of healing, hope, and proving that with prayers, grit, and embracing community, anything is possible.✨ This marathon isn't just mine anymore. It's for anyone who's ever felt lost, anyone battling grief, and anyone who doubts their own dreams. If you know someone struggling, who's facing their own battles, who's lost someone, or who simply needs a spark of hope, DM/comment their name and share this message with them. Let them know they're not alone.🤗💕 Alongside my daughter's and our 2nd child's name, I'll carry their hopes, dreams, and memories, turning each kilometer into a testament to strength we find in our own unique ways. I run not just for the lost but also for the living, I run to represent those who can't. By God's grace, I will run with the support of everyone who has believed  in me. @iamromanoiniego @thebullrunner @updreamers @marienettist We can rise above our pain. We can dream bigger, believe deeper, and we can keep moving forward.💖 See you, TBR 2024 batchmates! #tbr42kgoodday #tbrgarmindream2024 #tbrambassador #futuremarathoner #anatharunning #natsruns4miracle

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A MARATHON TRAINING SCHEDULE? A marathon is largely a feat of endurance. The question always looms....Can I run a full 26.2 mile marathon? A marathon training schedule will help you to reach your peak endurance potential at a certain point in time in order for you to be able to complete the entire marathon distance! For most runners, training for a marathon is a challenge that requires months of upfront hard work, sweat, and probably a few tears. Without a good training schedule, you quite possibly won’t even make it halfway through the marathon race. This is devastating to anyone who has invested so much time into their running. However, all of the training plans on this page have been well loved by thousands upon thousands of runners. Be assured you can find your perfect marathon training schedule on my site at: ⚡https://www.all-about-marathon-training.com/marathon-training-schedule.html . . . #marathonrunning #marathonprep #marathonmotivation #marathonman #marathongirl #themarathoncontinues #marathonerintraining #themarathon #marathoners #marathonmama #marathonrecovery #marathoncontinues #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #halfmarathons #halfmarathonrunner #runahalfmarathon #halfmarathonprep #halfmarathoner #halfmarathongoals #halfmarathonfinisher

Runners love to brag about the benefits of running and no wonder! 4 FAVORITE BENEFITS OF RUNNING 1. You can do it anywhere! No special equipment is needed as long as you have your preferred running shoes! This includes running while you are traveling which I think is so fulfilling! You will get to see new sights and people and will probably create some amazing memories that will stick with you if not highlight your trip or vacation! What other form of exercise can you do absolutely anywhere? 2. You can run outside or from the comforts of your home if you own a treadmill. The flexibility that running has can be added to the list of awesome benefits of running. 3. You can eat carbs and get away with it! (somewhat!) Of course it is all about balance! However, in order to sustain your running, which is considered a vigorous exercise you need carbohydrates to metabolize and fuel your running. 4. You will sleep better! This should come with a footnote that says, you will sleep better if you are running early enough in the day. For some, running at night can have a “wake up” effect on your body and keep you up later. Play around with the time of day that you run and see if you notice a difference. However, running in the morning or afternoon will allow you to sleep more efficiently at night and remain in deep sleep for longer according to several studies. So run at just the right time to reap in the benefits of running for your body! . . . #nogymneeded #bestquote #bestquoteoftheday #goalsetters #challengeyourbody #challengeyourselfdaily #challengeyourselfeveryday #morningrunner #morningrunning #earlymorningrun #morningruns #morningrunofficial #earlyrun #nightrun #nightrunner #futuremarathoner #trainhardraceeasy #rungoals #runhealthy #keepingfitandhealthy #runhard #runningjourney

Want to know one thing that will make all the difference between whether you are able to pull yourself through the hardest miles of the marathon race? 💥It's your mindset. The ✨Mindset Training Plan for Marathoners (link in bio 👆) will help you push through the hardest parts of your marathon training and your marathon race so that you can cross that finish line with no regrets! Mindset Training is for you. It is for ALL marathoners who want to cross the finish line! ⚡Check out the link in my bio! . . . #mindsetmatters #mindsetcreator #mindsetshift #mindsetcoaching #mindsetmastery #mindsetofachampion #mentaltraining #mindsetmattersmost #achieveyourgoals #maketimeforwhatmatters #maketimenotexcuses #maketimeforit #bestquote #bestquoteoftheday #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #marathonrunning #marathonprep #trainingprogram #trainingprograms #trainingplan

(Warning! You might become addicted to those natural post-run endorphins that are flooding your body!) -Knowing that you are part of the half a percentage (0.05%) of the global population who has ever run a marathon! -Being a part of the fun race-day atmosphere, not just on the sidelines but actually inside the race with other marathoners who have set out to achieve a similar goal and that you will come to count on in a way you didn't know you needed. -Creating a life-experience that no one and nothing can ever take away from you! What is Run Walking? The idea behind run walking is simple. As the name implies, you mix running with walking by doing a series of run walk intervals. That is, you run for a period of time and then you walk for a period of time. The biggest benefit of doing a run walk style of training is that you will greatly reduce your risk of injury and stress placed on the body. First time marathon runners are actually one of the most susceptible populations to running injuries. The biggest reason is the fact that they are constantly increasing their mileage and therefore the impact that they are placing on all of their joints and muscles. Many runners who already have a history of running injuries or who would like to stay injury-free turn to run-walking to help reduce their risk. Other benefits of run walking include: -Reduces the amount of fatigue that a runner experiences -the ability to recover more quickly from runs especially long runs -Reduces the amount of impact that is placed on your body -Helps you to avoid over-heating -Enables you to enjoy the same “runner’s high” effects -Has the ability to make you a faster runner -Helps you to build your endurance (especially if running long-distance runs feels a bit overwhelming to you run-walk intervals breaks your run down into bite-sized manageable chunks!) -Reduces soreness -Helps to maintain control over your running form especially if you are running long distances . . . . #runningsuccessfully #runninglifeinspiration #runwalk #runwalkrun #beginnerrunner #starttorun #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #trainhardraceeasy #rungoals #trainingprogram #trainingprograms #runhealthy #keepingfitandhealthy #runningblogger #runcoach #runningcoach #goforarun #realrunners #runninggoals #runningprogam #runallthemiles #connectrunners #runningtherapy #runnerlifestyle

Hey there, I‘m Kate, 29 years old, living in Germany. 🙋🏽‍♀️ I started running in spring 2022 with the goal to finish a half marathon - which I actually did in May 2023 (official time: 1:54). Shortly after that one I had to pause running for four months due to overuse injury. I slowly started training again in October and here I am - ready for new challenges, working towards my next big goal: my first marathon in October 2024. ✨ On this account I‘m sharing my running journey. 🏃🏽‍♀️💟 . . . #runnersofinsta #runningjourney #marathontraining #futuremarathoner #runninggirl #longdistancerunner

SHORT TERM PREPARATIONS FOR RIGHT BEFORE YOU BEGIN MARATHON TRAINING: There are several short term preparations that you need to make before you begin marathon training. Making sure to implement these tips will make your training much easier in the long run. 1️⃣Register for your race. Make it official. Don't start your training with your race still being a "maybe" in your mind. Put your money where your mouth is and get your race on the calendar. It's happening! :) 2️⃣Be sure to have a running log! You must! It will probably become a treasure for you down the road especially if this is your first marathon! Running logs can be very beneficial to you because they will help you hone in on different aspects of your running. 3️⃣Create a running stockpile! Get all of the running gear that you might need and put it together. It can be a good idea to keep a stockpile in your closet, to make a recovery stockpile and a stockpile in your car (if you run on your way home from work or use a treadmill or track at a gym or high school.) Keep it altogether where you will be using it the most. . . . . #longruns #runningtraining #runfar #runninggoals #runningtherapy #runninrabbit #marathonready #marathontips #marathonmaniacs #marathonrunning #marathonprep #marathonmotivation #themarathoncontinues #marathonerintraining #themarathon #marathoners #firstmarathon #futuremarathoner #trainhardraceeasy #rungoals #runninggear

It’s been a while since I’ve been active on IG – sometimes life puts pauses on social media, doesn’t it? Here’s a throwback to the Miami Springs Turkey Trot this past November! Blu and I participated in this 5k, our first real race as daughter and dad! There were moments when I felt like the pushy coach, urging her to find her stride and keep up the pace. But guess what? All that nudging paid off because she was able to get 2nd place in the “under 17 division”! At the time, she might’ve thought I was just being annoying, but the look of sheer joy and achievement on her face when she held that medal was priceless. It’s moments like these that remind us why we challenge ourselves and each other. I’m incredibly proud of Blu’s running journey this year after joining @carrolltoncyclones . She’s shown such dedication and growth, and it’s only the start. Here’s to many more miles, finish lines, and medals. Who knows, maybe marathons are next on our list. #Prouddad #TurkeyTrot #RunningProgress #MiamiSprings #Under17Champion #RunnersOfInstagram #MarathonTraining #futuremarathoner

Marathon training can be overwhelming whether you are running your first marathon or your 15th. It’s a big goal and one that you want to be successful at since you are putting so much time and energy into reaching that goal! Having a clear idea of WHAT you need to focus on will help you gain a sense of control over the process and give you a road map of what you need to be doing during your marathon training journey. You can break down marathon training into the top 3 things that you must focus on. These are: 1️⃣your training plan - you need to have confidence in your training plan and it’s equally important that you feel confident in the person or coach that designed the training plan. 2️⃣your nutrition - Alright, let’s be frank here. If you aren’t giving your body the energy that it needs then it won’t be able to allow you to run 26.2 miles. It’s like putting gas in your car. If you want to go the distance, you will need the fuel to do it. 3️⃣and your mental training - Mental training is perhaps the most neglected part of the entire marathon training process. Yet, it is one of the most important parts of the process! Marathon running follows the 80-20 rule. 80% of it is a mental battle, 20% of it is a physical battle. You will reach a point in your marathon training when you physically CAN go farther but you mentally feel like you absolutely CANNOT. Do you want to run a marathon in 2024? 🌟Long post alert: Marathon training- W17d6 Final big training run 18 miles! It’s all downhill from here 🙌 (until the race of course) Ive been anxious about making it through the 18. Then with the forecasted storms I was anxious about maybe not getting my last big training run. Ultimately rescheduled it to this morning to get it done before any storms came through. Had some company and Christmas decoration distractions for the first half. Between a less than ideal morning prior to the run, the nerves this week about the storms forecasted, the nerves about the distance, the rain (ended up being pretty much constant light rain/drizzle basically the whole time)… huge shoutout to Christa Smith for your amazing support this morning. It definitely helped me get through it.
