Calendula flowers are one of my new favorite things to grow in my garden and they are POWERFUL healers. They're anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-cancer. They grow easily and the more flowers you pinch off, the more it will encourage new growth. Topically, calendula can be used to heal wounds by aiding in new tissue growth. Its antimicrobial properties also mean it will help keep scrapes, cuts, blisters, and sores from getting infected. It's also great at treating sunburn, as well as skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema. When taken internally, calendula can assist in boosting the immune system and improve digestive health. It can repair the gut wall and provide relief and comfort from cramping (menstrual and digestive), spasms, and pain. Because of its antimicrobial and antiviral properties, it can also help kick that cold or cough to the curb. After harvesting the blooms, I dry them out, then pluck the petals to make a tea. I use around 2 tablespoons for 12 ounces of water and let it steep for 20 minutes to get a strong infusion. You can drink 2-3 cups per day. You can also cool the tea and use it as a face toner, or you can infuse your favorite oil with petals and use it on your skin. Just do a quick search on the benefits of calendula and you will be amazed at the benefits and medical studies that are out there! Happy healing. 🌼

Fenegriek. Ik kan me dit kruid nog zo goed herinneren vanuit mijn eerste opleiding. Op mijn 18e, tijdens mijn eerste jaar fytotherapie was dit één van de eerste kruiden die ik verder ging onderzoeken. We hielden een zelfgemaakte encyclopedie bij van alle kruiden, van inhoudsstoffen tot werking, contra-indicaties etc. Ik heb deze kruidenmap nog steeds♥️🌿. Fenegriek is een éenjarig kruid waarvan de zaden ingezet kunnen worden vanwege allerlei gezondheidsredenen. Zo kun je er bijvoorbeeld thee van zetten. Het werkt onder andere bloedsuikerverlagend vanwege het hoge gehalte aan vezels, chroom en coumarines. Het zaad is rijk aan slijmstoffen waardoor het, indien voor de maaltijd ingenomen, een volheidsgevoel creëert. Door deze slijmstoffen kan het ook verzachtend en beschermend werken op geirriteerde slijmvliezen. Bovendien kan het laxerend werken bij constipatie omdat diezelfde slijmstoffen het zwelvermogen van de darminhoud doen toenemen. Interessant aan deze fenegriek zaden is dat deze een fyto oestrogene werking hebben bij de vrouw. Dit betekent dat het ons oestrogeen gehalte wat kan stimuleren. Nu is dit niet zomaar iets om uit te proberen, maar het kan bijvoorbeeld ondersteuning bieden bij PMS, onregelmatige menstruatie en menopauzale verschijnselen. Bovendien kan het zowel bij man als vrouw het libido verhogen. Kaylee ( @rooted.in.naturee ) taught me how to make salve on Friday! We made some skin nourishing Calendula Salve from Rosemary Gladstar’s book. The calendula flowers are from my garden and it was so great learning this new skill. Using that same recipe/ratio, I made a natural neosporin replacement with Calendula, Comfrey, Yarrow and Bergamot infused oil. All of those plants were also straight from my backyard! The plants were harvested in July and after they dried, I stored them in organic Olive Oil to extract all of their beneficial properties. We have been misled and misfed. It’s important to start (or continue) questioning the narrative and embrace nature again.
