Anyways let's go back to when things weren't going insane in Paris and go back to April 21st! @nrcapone completed her Coast to Coast challenge with the 10 miler. I even got her to start stopping for characters! Needless to say, Niki prefers a Disney World long-distance race over Disneyland. I agree, you have a much bigger buffer and the level of entertainment throughout the course is amazing. Still crossing fingers the Disneyland will be much better organized in September and that maybe more people will be out in the city to help boost runners. I guess I get spoiled by running in Atlanta, where there is always a crowd. That “holy shit I did it” finish line feeling… it is so addicting! I still can’t believe I was able to finish the 19.3 miles - with only training up to 7 miles. We aren’t lying when we say every mile is magic- and pixie dust gets you through. I was getting ready this morning and I was thinking about the next year of RunDisney. I’m so excited to be able to go to Princess and marathon weekend and not have to stress about finishing double digit miles. You see when you get addicted to runDisney, your trip to Disney World or Disneyland are run related! The early wake up calls, early bedtime, way less park time and not being able to eat the food that I love to try. Next season I’m running the 5K at Marathon weekend and depending on the themes.. 5K and 10 K for princess. I’m not gonna lie if springtime is a Muppets theme I might have to register for the 5k &10k for that race too. I’m really sad. I didn’t sign up for wine and dine, but I know financially and logistically it would be really hard to work out. I’m gonna be dreaming of those Muppets and Tiana medals!! What I’m doing now is focusing on family vacations, and relaxing vacations. We’re headed to Walt Disney World in October with the fam and then Disneyland for my birthday! It’s pretty cool because I get to see Halloween and Disney World and then Christmas in Disneyland. I’m excited for what this year will bring for my fitness journey and I love that runDisney is still a big part of my life. 7 years for my first runDisney race, and I’ve never looked back! I’m still a bit stunned we pulled it off! 🎉 Here’s a quick ‘by the numbers’ list from this runDisney journey: ☑️ 1 perfect runDisney race season ☑️ 135.1 miles ☑️ 23 medals (16 race medals and 7 challenge medals) ☑️ 5 runDisney race weekends ☑️ 16 individual races (five 5K races, five 10K races, one 10-Miler, four Half Marathons, and one Marathon) ☑️ 16 races all starting at 5am ☑️ 6 Disney Parks run through (Disneyland, California Adventure, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios) ☑️ 4 trips to Disney World in Florida ☑️ 1 trip to Disneyland in California ☑️ Hundreds of training miles throughout the season ☑️ Countless magical memories made! RunDisney Hakuna Matata 10-Miler… which was the final race in the ‘Stitch’s Ohana Challenge’ of 19.3 miles for the weekend. This run was waaaay back on April 21st. I’m finally catching up on my IG posts here. 🤷🏻♀️😂 Another warm and muggy morning… but it was just so much fun! I love how the course took us through Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land in Hollywood Studios… as well as all around the World Showcase in Epcot. I’ve gotta say, I really enjoy running in these comfy, skater style, running dresses. This is the second time I’ve raced in one. (The first one like this that I tried was when I ran a half marathon dressed as Joy from Inside Out back in January.) They’re lightweight, moisture wicking, and I just wear my usual running shorts under them. I was excited to have an excuse to wear these Minnie ears… cause I love them! 😆❤️ I figured they worked well with the Lilo & Stitch theme. RunDisney Adventure Is Out There 10K! 🎈 These photos are from waaaaaay back on April 20th. (I’m very behind on keeping my IG journal updated! 😂 But… I’m going to try and fix that today!) Carl & Ellie (Matt and I) had a blast running through Disney together. It was HOT and HUMID… but we loved it. We spent the afternoon in Animal Kingdom after the race. (I love the Flights of Passage ride! And my FAVE Disney World show is in AK: the Lion King production. Love it!) We found Russell hanging out… so we showed him our medals. 🏅🏅 Dinner was a new experience for us that evening… we went to Fort Wilderness and watched the Hoop-De-Doo dinner show. It was so much fun! The performers were fantastic. We took the ferry from Fort Wilderness back to Magic Kingdom after the show (since we had never taken that ferry before… and it was even during a pretty sunset) and then hopped on a bus back to our hotel. May the 4th Be with You! Throwback to Princess Half 2019 — and the elusive third sister! 👩🏼🦱👩🏼👱🏻♀️ To be fair, Sister 3 promises us ONE race weekend a year, and it’s really only the last two or three years that we’ve expanded our race weekends beyond Princess Weekend. 👑 And this was right around when we were getting into running in costume. You can see @itsglitternotsweat has an entire knit scarf for her Padme look — she hand made that, and then I think ditched it at some point in the race (correct me if I’m wrong sis). She also had a costume change a la Padme in Episode II where she removed her top layer, looking like she just fought a nexu, which was pretty cute. I remember wanting to run with a toy blaster and then checking it in my race bag because I was certain it wasn’t allowed. Lol at past me not knowing the costuming future me would attempt. 💥 Star Wars Day is like a religious holiday in our house! Husband and I are taking the dog, Poe Dameron, (told ya we’re nerds) to the park with all three of us in some sort of costume for our morning walk! Then we’ll catch Episode I in theaters tonight…also in some sort of costume! Last year we got to see Episode V in concert through the Louisiana Philharmonic! Hopefully one year I get to spend May 4 on Batuu, alas state testing is always during this holiday so it makes travel tricky. Dapper day with the best people 🖤 It has been a bit since I’ve participated in Dapper Day, but I am so so glad this Dapper Day I got to spend it with my best friends. 🖤 We had some amazing moments throughout an already core memory day 💙💛 ✨ We went and saw Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Minnie ✨ We took some pictures in front of the castle and Sir Mickey’s (for a long while I had no idea this photopass spot existed but I’m so glad I know about it now) ✨ We dined at Cinderella’s Royal Table and got amazing interactions with Merida, Aurora, Jasmine, Ariel, and Cinderella ✨ We rode Pirates and Haunted Mansion ✨ We got so many compliments on our outfits … Most importantly, we got to just celebrate each other’s company, our accomplishments, and our races ALL WEEKEND LONG and end the weekend the way we wanted to end the weekend. #medalmonday with some new bling 😍 This race weekend in particular was filled with so many core memories, being surrounded by my friend ohana, dapper moments, and lots of miles. Some key takeaways for me from STS: 🖤 As a pregnant runner, I am slower at the moment and that is okay! No one including myself should be expecting me to maintain the same level of speed right now. I am growing a human and that is a part of what comes with growing a human. I am much slower than pre-pregnancy but i know that someday after Chloe is born, my speed will return! Did I still do the damn thing for STS regardless of the lack of speed? You bet I did. 👏🏻 🖤 This weekend, what really made the difference, was the people I was surrounded by. The support, the love, the amount of laughter that was shared amongst our group of friends, our Ohana, was just wholesome and heartwarming. Every race weekend should feel this way when you’re surrounded by the right people. 🖤 I felt a sense of relief with this being the last race of the season and not having that return comeback moment until Marathon Weekend 2025. I truly need a break and a longer period of time to recoop. We’re going to return stronger, faster, and be a little more patient throughout this next training cycle. 🖤 While I didn’t complete the “perfect season” like so many amazing friends of mine, I had the honor of being able to participle in every single @rundisney race of the 2023-2024 season. And for that I am so thankful. So fun fact about me I do have an art degree. I don’t use it “in real life” but it sure comes in handy from time to time! I dual majored for my undergrad degree in art and public relations at Syracuse University (I look really good in orange 😉). So every now and then I do like to put my student debt to work and flex those art skills. 🎨 I was helping my littlest sister out with some wedding-related graphics when I found the concept sketches I’d made for my Springtime Surprise costumes. I don’t make these for every weekend, but when I’m still brainstorming this is where my process begins. I’d say the execution matched and exceeded my vision this time around! Can’t wait to get some of these fun ideas I’ve got in my brain out for Wine & Dine next! 🤭🫣 Where are you in your running costuming planning? Taking a brake? Brainstorming? My training called for a 2 hour long run today- but I have some terrible cold that’s settled into my lungs- Dopey is still 255 days away so there is zero reason to beat my body up. Instead of a long run, I went for an hour and a half walk- got some miles in and time on feet- and the sunshine and fresh air and flowers made me feel better. On this Finish Line Friday I want to say how proud I am of this kiddo! This was only his 2nd 5k and he finished so quick that he was able to snag finish line photos with barely anyone in them!!! His finish time was 32 minutes which would have been less if I would have let him run it by himself from the start (he ran the first 1/2 mile with me but said I was slowing him down 🤣). It's Fri-YAY! You know what that means! Look back at the most recent finish lines. First up is the Neverland 5K from Springtime Surprise! I was SOOO happy to finally be Tinkerbell! I had so much fun with it too. Thanks to @heatherruns13.1 stopping right in front of a photopass spot I got an exceptionally blurred photo, which honestly was perfect! We laughed, we complained about lines and amount of character stops, and enjoyed ourselves in the end. It's always great to be with friends and honestly with @runtheimpossible with you, you're gonna laugh. At marathon weekend I was moved by my experience pacing from the last corral. After that I knew I wanted to pace the last pace group at a race, and Sunday I had the honor of pacing the last pace group for the 10 miler. I wish I had the words that could make people understand the magic that is the back of the pack, but it’s something that can only be understood once it is experienced. The runners who start in the back and finish in the back are the greatest group of people. The goal is to finish and the work is hard, to be trusted to bring the magic over multiple hours is something that means so much to me. I wish these runners knew how much I believed in them and how much joy it brought me to watch them do things they didn’t believe they could. Thank you runners because to me YOU ARE THE MAGIC!
