Furyborn, written by Claire Legrand - A review. I’m giving this book an easy 4.5 ⭐️ and it is well deserved. This is one of those books that you can get lost in once the action gets started & when you check the time it’s apparently 2am in the morning. It took me a little while to get thru this book due to my schedule the last few weeks but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It took me a little bit to get used to the back and forth, as it is based on 2 queens set 1000 years apart but it’s so worth it because as the storyline continues everything falls into place and starts to make sense. I would recommend this book if you’re new to fantasy, it has some romance and intended spice in it as well. I would also consider this book NA and not YA which I’ve seen it referred to as, it can be quite graphic during the action scenes as well as the 5-6 page spice scene 👀 (which by the way is worth the wait!). There are so many plot twists towards the end which I believe will set the pace for book 2 in the Empirium series (Kingsbane). I didn’t see any of the twists and turns that came out towards the end and I’m so excited to see where book 2 takes us. Book Review #13 Title: Endless I Will Be Author: Sonia Oinam Publisher: Notion Press Pages: 160 Genre: Anthology Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • My Review: Since, I'm on a mission to read across genres this year, I found this book with a minimal cover and intriguing title🌻. And just, loved this 🫶🏻 • Here, the poet @sonia_oinam_longjam has compiled 68 beautiful poems, divided into 3 sections: Behold Not, Come changes come, and Hope. These sections have poems from diverse reflections but a similar underlying theme. Each poem is written in free verse, with the first stanza of some beginning with an empathetic one-liner, which draws the readers' attention and makes us internalize the key emotion. The poems are quite raw, and show the relationship of the author with the world around her, her feelings, and the realisation of letting some things go for the sake of self growth and mindfulness. • Reading this book was a beautiful experience, very cozy that reminded me of walking by lush green rice-fields on a cloudy day, with a soft breeze giving spring to my steps (Idk how to express this feeling otherwise). Stunning, relevant illustrations by @beeshantamyumnam enhanced the reading experience of the poems. The poems "A Blooming Flower" and the titular "Endless I will Be'" were my absolute favourites. Okay so I know I said that I wasn’t over the moon with Till The End Of The Moon, but #TTEOTM has one undeniable feature that any #booktokgirlie will fall in love with… #leoluo. I have NEVER ever, not once, been a #fangirl over any famous person. At 35, I should almost be ashamed of how much #luoyunxi has got under my skin. But I’m not. He’s a stunning creature. And he is the sole reason I endured all 48 painstaking episodes of #andthewinnerislove. It’s very slow, repetitive scenario’s, weak plot, the female lead is quite bland and naïve and helpless, the translation is weak (though there’s some lovely poetry lines!) and it’s a #wuxia which means no grand unearthly visuals. But, it does feature #yunxiluo and I am now both infatuated and equally jealous of paper fans! A sentence I can’t believe I’m actually saying. The story follows a young girl who’s father discovered an extremely powerful #matialarts move and went mad learning it, killing innocents and dying. She grows up trying to atone for his mistakes and re-establish the #houseofflames as a respectful sect. She crosses path with our fan-wielding swoon-master, who’s tasked to protect her as a favour to his friend, her reclusive uncle. There’s a prince floating around who has big plans to stake his claim to fame and a bunch of very slow and often irritatingly unjustifiable events take place that establish a power struggle within the martial art sects themselves (they all want the scroll that teaches the powerful move) and the govt officials, pulling our love birds into various challenges in which they can fall hopelessly in love and suffer. After 48 episodes of not much really happening (highlights include fan and hot pool) and a lot of blabbering on about schemes, it’s a happy ending. But it’s worth it for Yunix, an extremely expressive actor (those eyebrows!) and he even sung the theme song (yes, I’m now also listening to his music - I did confessed fangirl status!). And I also gained some ideas for moves I can use for my fire dancing from it too. So it wasn’t a waste but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you develop a need for #luo (which I don’t recommend either, it’s genuinely dangerous 😂🤣😂).
Book Review #8 Name: The Sorry Book Author: Niraj Mittal Publisher: Redgrab Books Pages: 280 Genre: Autobiographical Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ * My Review: In my reading journey, I've encountered a few books that have flayed me open & made my heart ache...this book is one of those.❤️🩹 • Here, @authornirajmittal teleports the reader to the narrow lanes of Mehsana, Gujarat, with his immersive writing. The boisterous locality of Bholu 's childhood, colourful neighbours who shared important phases of his life, thick groves with unique legends to keep away people (rightfully so 😢), family & social dynamics of the 90s suburbs, innocence of childhood, excitement & expectations of youth, adventures of life and philosophical insights as a result of all these cumulative experiences. The search for divine and spiritual awakening was an underlying theme. • From the preface itself, the author's raw style of narration had me hooked. The book made me laugh at the humorous tales & childhood follies, shocked me with the unexpected turn of events, made me weep, and managed to occupy my thoughts for a long time. • I was most intrigued whether it's indeed fiction or not, as the reality converged so deeply. The 90s kid in me nodded at the similar & simpler lifestyle of my own childhood and the changed society that we inhabit today, though each era has its own rewards & challenges. Then as the story progressed, my heart sank at the difficult experiences and trauma endured by the main characters. • The best thing was the story of Bholu & Paridhi came to a complete circle, their journeys and consequent maturity inspiring the readers to have faith in timing of the Almighty.
