I've been dealing with lower back pain and backed off completely with the exception of the Girls on the Run 5k with my daughter last Sunday bc I wouldn't have missed it for anything. Way back Wednesday and we’re going back a ways. This would be Saturday November 28th, 1987. The famous Gunner Shaw 10k cross country classic. Yes I did make a couple of appearances on this designed to be a true Harriers tough course. This was one of those years where it was a rare dry day, and good to go quickly on. Some of the fast runners were there Dave Campbell our former Olympian x2 literally crushed this route, probably the fastest split on the course ever! Peter Cardle was 2nd as I did my best to keep him in sight as the smooth running Dave Campbell was almost at the 6 mile pub when we finished and we ran well. Was happy with that finish it was really a lot of fun. I found some form and efficiency for someone who truly is used to burning rubber. I'm not matchy-matchy, you are! I definitely felt like I fit the bill for "East Cobb Snob" dropping my high schooler off with my matching outfit and Starbies😅. Truth be told, I loved it. I love the extra moments with my girl. Also, I really needed the extra chai latte after the 4:30 am wake-up call to get my run in before the 7am kindergarten bus stop. I've been loosely following the Garmin Coach to see what is all about. It's not too shabby! Today was a light progression workout. For the first time in a hot minute, I enjoyed pressing the pace. And felt strong doing it 💪. Way back Wednesday, as they come in faster each week. This takes us back to April 8, 2001. The Port Alberni “Paper Chase” 10k. This being one of the last races of the highly competitive Island Race series. I at this point was in one of those windows where I was rolling pretty well. Nice when you are in those good patches as you tend sometimes to basically train in between injuries. I jumped into the group of 4 rolled out from the gun trying to sit in and hang on at least to the turnaround of the out and back course. I was having a decent run, overall winner Rob Harmsworth had started to gap the rest of us just after that, which was fine as I at this point was the master working of the pack of the open runners, it spread a bit, with 25 seconds separating 2nd to 4th. I was happy with that still 4th overall and stayed pretty smooth and controlled as I was looking ahead to the Times Colonist 10k which would be next Was a nice sunny day in the Alberni valley, finding my one with the road! Way back Wednesday, didn’t we just have. Thought I should throw in a TC 10k. Back to April 19, 2000. Sorry no pics, though this would be a good day, running with my old training buddy Gord Christie. Always smooth and undaunted. Pushed this out as still running well and on my home field. Rolling through the ups and downs of the course. There was a few of us chasing the masters money, such a novel thought, but always brings out the best of us. Remember hurting somewhat around 7k, almost relenting the old guys lead. Remember those words still that Gord said, get going you’ll be upset with yourself. Dug down for that thing and have this great story to tell. Always it’s more than a run! I rolled my ankle last Thursday. Not bad, but it was enough for me to take a few days off. I do not do well with that kind of thing. Especially when I feel like I can walk just fine. Today, I gave it a go. At first, I did a "trial mile" to see how it was. I could feel it, but it was more dull and didn't impact my running. I decided to keep going and try a 5k, and by the time I got to the end of that, it felt looser, so I opted to finish the 6(+.2). I'm glad I did! It just hasn't felt right not running.

Kettering Like many, my @bostonmarathon didn’t go as planned. As an early morning runner in Central NY, I was definitely not acclimated to temps in the 70s and full sun. By mile 4 I knew it was going to be a struggle. I had feelings of nausea, my face felt like it was on fire and I was struggling to breathe at times feeling as though I had an elephant sitting on my chest. I slowed to a walk at mile 7 and did some run/walking for the next good chunk of miles. I stumbled upon @catwindham26 around mile 14 or so and we started to chat. We decided to hang together and simply do our best. Having someone to chat with while that understood what I was feeling was such a comfort. She credits me for saving her race. The truth is, she saved mine too! 🙏 We got through it together girl and I appreciate you more than you know. After the Newton Hills, I found a burst of energy and headed towards the finish with just over a 5k to go. Nothing compares to the Boylston finish line feels! My favorite parts of the race, other than meeting Cat and the finish line, were meeting @immrsspacecadet on course, hearing hundreds of people yell my name and words of encouragement and the @bostoncollege crew. 🫶🏼 Congrats to all who ran the warmest Boston since 2017. It was a great day despite the struggles. Thank you also to the amazing volunteers. So so many people gave up their time to make this race a success. You are all amazing!! Shout out to my girl @lizcasatelli who re-qualified and ran her ass off out there.
