I never met my father-in-law. Though my husband and I dated in jr.high school, my father had two feet firmly planted in the “if that boy likes you he’ll find a way to come see you” camp. *sigh* Boomers. So my husband would hop on his pedal bike and ride the few miles to my house. The relationship was short-lived, even for a middle school romance. By the time we got back together 7 years later, Tom’s dad had already been an ancestor for a couple of years. I got to know him through photos and stories. So many stories, all of them hilarious and so very Irish. Not only have I never met my father-in-law, I also haven’t met a single one of my husband’s paternal extended family. When Joe died, so did the connection to the O’Neachtain branch of the family tree. Unfortunately, it’s taken the death of another member of the first generation of American O’Neachtain’s to interrupt that story. Tonight we say goodbye to yet another man I never knew, one that only lives in my husband’s childhood memories. For the first time in over 20 years, my husband will reunite with his paternal line. For the first time ever I will introduce myself as “Joe’s daughter-in-law” an identity that has always existed in theory, but will finally be embodied. When I began this journey, I had a vision of healing very specific rifts in my family tree. The thing about ancestral work is that it leads you to places you never expected to go. It reveals pieces of you that feel missing or incomplete. It restores a sense of belonging and a feeling of being known. Yesterday I was talking to a lady and we got on the topic of being an empath. A little bit after our conversation she asked me how I felt about hauntings. I explained to her that I'm a psychic medium so I believe in them and I explained what I do when I come across something like that. She proceeded to tell me about how her apartment is haunted and that the spirits bother her husband in particular. It all sounded like mischievous behavior to me and so I felt like they were dealing with trickster earthbound spirits. I spent some of today making her a house spray and gave her some protection powder I love to make. It was a blast! I also explained to her that we are more powerful. Practiced by filí (poet-seers) and draoithe(druids), Imbas Forosnaí was a magical process by which seekers gained enlightenment through visions; an invocation of altered states of consciousness for the purpose of achieving visionary inspiration. Put very simply, it was a ritual for obtaining second sight. Mentions of this ritual are found in early Irish texts such as the Táin Bo Cúlaigne, An Fhiannaíocht (The Fenian Cycle 2nd Century CE), Senchus Mór (the oldest surviving written Gaelic law), and the Sanas Cormaic ( Cormac’s Glossary, credited to Cormac mac Cuileannáin, king-bishop of Munster, in 908 CE.) The Sanas Cormaic describes a ritual practice of “eating red flesh“, leading some folks to believe the draoíthe used Amanita muscaria or “Fly Agaric” mushrooms for this process. The literal translation of “red flesh”, however, suggests the flesh was that of a pig, dog, or cat. The text is unclear as to whether the Irish gods were called upon to watch over the draoí seeking visions or if other draoíthe watched over him as he slept. Chanting and singing (tenm laida) were part of the ritual, as was covering the participant’s face with their hands, seeking darkness or privacy in order to receive the visions. It’s important to remember that Druids were very secretive, and guarded their practices vehemently. Theirs was an oral tradition, and therefore we do not have first hand written accounts of their practices and rituals. Though the Sanas Cormaic outlines the ritual of Imbas Forosnaí, we are not certain if it was written by Cormac mac Cuileannáin or if it is composed of others writings and compiled by him. Therefore, we must take the description of this ritual with a grain of salt. For me personally, in my own practice, I use this information as inspiration for my personal rituals involving divination and clairvoyance, but I would not go so far as to claim I’m engaging in an Irish Druidic practice. However, I feel comfortable using the phrase “Imbas Forosnaí” when speaking with ancestral spirits, to indicate the enlightenment that I seek.

I felt SO proud of myself this weekend!! 😅 I've been wanting to make myself an herbal/fruit bath for awhile now and was finally able to.🥰 I HIGHLY recommend it. It hits different lmfao I added almond milk, epsom salt, oranges, lemons, apples, sage, thyme, tarragon, marjoram and a chamomile tea bag instead of the loose herb(it was too small and I didn't want it to go down the drain). I used the strainer to take everything out after the bath 🤗 I used rosemary water for my hair during the bath. Just slap a cap on. I also use organic coconut oil to do an oil pull(it's an ayurvedic practice that helps with your gum health).
