FOR SALE: $50.00 Shipped Domestic Only - DM to Claim Semi-original Weirdos/Dangerhouse 1978 Calendar. This is a bit of a weird one. This piece was picked up at a Boston Record Store in 1978. The Store, "Discount Records" made single sheet 8.5 x 14" Xerox copies from the original Weirdos/Dangerhouse calendar poster. So, it is a 100% original xerox from the time, just not the original poster, which was on thicker stock paper. You can see where they added the discount records logo if you look close enough. Still pretty cool. I doubt a whole lot survived. Light edge wear present. Some browning from tape residue is present. Tape covering one tear on the lower right hand corner. Still intact. I'm thinking about a new t-shirt. First off. Hobos. During the great depression (right after the war to end all wars, just sayin') hobos hit the rails. They were not tramps, they were not bums. They rode from town to town on trains. Sometimes with permission, more often not. The tried to keep themselves clean and presentable (this is where we may differ) but were looking for work, not handouts, in a time when there was not a lot of work. In my opinion, these were honorable men (and a few women). So I do not use this as a derogatory term, but as an honorific. @trollcunningforge made a post that he wasn't sure he was at the right place when coming to the #northwestblacksmithassociation spring conference for the first time last weekend, but "saw a circle of hobos" and knew he found his people. I kinda loved that. (more than kinda) The waves and oxo below is the hobo mark indicating "a good place to camp with good water". Basically welcoming. We are an odd and eclectic group, but if you are good people, have an interest in blacksmithing, you are welcome. No one seems to give a sh!t about the stuff that doesn't really matter (all the stuff that politicians seem to want us to care about). I’ve kind of held that a practice is something you do even when sometimes you don’t want to. You just show up. It’s ok to struggle with the things you make and do. It’s enough that I spent most of the weekend looking at arugula blossoms, and felt very underwhelmed with the results. That doesn’t make me a bad painter, it makes me a dedicated one. It’s ok to sand down stuff your not loving and try again. Just keep trying. That’s what matters. Anyway, I consider this painting a failure with purpose.
