Been making these giant salads every single night for dinner and I’m in love with them😻✨ finally created a combo of ingredients that are both nourishing and so tasty! The base is 6 cups of spring mix greens + spinach smothered in fresh lemon juice and creamy avocado, sliced cucumbers from the farmers market, minced sweet onion, thinly sliced raw asparagus, and a generous sprinkling of Atlantic dulse. On top are the sweetest yummiest cherry tomatoes that burst with so much flavor in your mouth 😱 as well as my homegrown tender alfalfa sprouts 🌱, crispy raw nori sheets that I cut into squares so I can make lil hand rolls out of my salad (so good🤤!), and a generous dollop of my thicc homemade nut & seed “cheesy” sauce/dip 👌🏽 It’s so so so delicious, I eat it every single day and always look forward to it! All raw and made with love & wholesome healthy ingredients from nature ✌🏽 ***Also, I know this has nothing to do with my food but I have to use this post and my voice to speak up about something important that is relevant for this weekend: ...I’ve never liked fireworks. Make hay while the sun shines...even if it means using the little ledge space a tiny urban apartment offers for sun drying. Trying to make most of the berry of the season- the Indian gooseberry that’s soon bidding adieu! Put out one of the last batches of homemade #amlacandy and #amlasupari to dry. I’ve been making these for years now and it’s a lot of fun. More than anything it makes me slowdown and spend time mindfully, immersing me in these (seemingly meaningless) activities when one might feel all these can be easily store bought. But it’s definitely worth the satisfaction and joy the process brings! The supari was soaked in a spiced beetroot juice to impart the beautiful pink hue😍 The Amla candy has been sweetened in a jaggery syrup. Lot of the gooseberry pieces are flicked while it’s still drying (too tempting to wait for the process to complete) and the rest will be gone in a day or two. But I kid you not, it’s still worth the effort! The road ahead is never what we imagine it will be.. Especially when we're unlearning and healing Ancestral trauma, while also relearning and incorporating the wisdom of our Ancestors... For the last year I've been unlearning, and listening, while also relearning the traditions and ways that were always with me, even when I didn't realize it... I have been listening to my BIWOC teachers and mentors, who are doing the heavy, intense work of decolonization, particularly in spaces of healing... And, while my heritage is also rooted in Indigenous ancestry, my dominant genetics are Irish, which makes my experience an extremely different one... While I will continue to embrace both sides of my heritage through my healing work, I will leave any decolonization work to the BIWOC, who are the ones that we should be listening to, and taking our cues from... As I continue to trace my heritage, and relearn the ways of my people on both sides, I am discovering that I'm a conglomeration of all the cultures I was raised with, which are Cherokee, Iroquois, Irish, and Puerto Rican...❤ So, as I've tried to fit in somewhere throughout my life, I never have.. And, I'm realizing that isn't a curse, as I always felt. I'm a mix of all of the cultures and women that raised me, and instead of trying to fit in somewhere, it's time for me to embrace who I am, and release the shame I've always felt, because I don't fit in... I'm learning about the Appalachian roots within my family, and how they were a mix of cultures, with deep Spiritual roots, and a strong connection to nature and the land.. Which explains SO much... My drumming is rooted in all directions of my lineage, which was comforting to find out.. And, helps me to get clearer on the direction of my healing work... I will continue to share, as I go along.. A time for REFLECTION... These last few months I've been in deep reflection, going inward, trying to figure out my place in the world, and why I'm here... How I'm meant to use my gifts... And, in what ways I'm supposed to share what has been passed down to me, from my Ancestors... Today, after reading a post from @ash.cornejo ,it became very clear to me... Between the disgusting Q lies and appropriation, infiltrating an already extremely colonized "spiritual community", and the wannabe gurus, and fake shamans, stealing and claiming Indigenous wisdom, as their own, I am feeling called to protect and shield my gifts... To hold them dear, and not monetize on something that has been passed down to me, even when I hadn't asked for this wisdom... I feel comfortable with sharing my medicine through my Essences, and other products... And, when the time comes to sit in circle again, I feel comfortable holding space for small groups... But, holding large, or online sound baths, and workshops, just doesn't feel right for me at this point... When energies shift again, (which they will), I will revisit where I'm at... But, at this time, there are too many lecherous, hollow people, trying to steal wisdom that wasn't meant to be used in the ways they are using it... I'm working on a few new products and ways to share my medicine, that will allow me to do what I love, while also protecting the integrity of my gifts and the wisdom of my Ancestors... I’ve read that in many religions, burning incense is a spiritual sign of prayer. In the past few years, I’ve leaned into that and so many other rituals to get my day started, especially in the colder months. ✨ I’m usually up before the sun these days. My morning starts by lighting a few candles for a warm glow, roasting some coffee beans for that first morning cuppa, some faint music in the back—usually classical or #shrutibox , burning some #palosanto and walking around the house to diffuse the energy and to clear the vibes from yesterday followed by some yoga stretches while the coffee steeps. ✨I find that slowly adding sensory experiences to my morning like this really helps me in the winter to keep me grounded and puts me in a positive state of mind. Instead of feeling grumpy that it’s cold again, or asking myself...why am I up so early—-I try to stock up on things that make me feel all cozy, so I can slowly enter upon this mornings existence. Even when my mind is cluttered, when there is no thought of meditation or prayer... these rituals help me to feel a sense of spirituality and enter a state of just being present. ✨I am blessed to be wearing my favorite fur slippers, grateful to have some time to grind my own coffee beans and take a moment that’s been crafted by me....just for me alone ✨ Do you have a #morningritual ? What a day for the auspices! This afternoon I opened my door to a flock of turkeys just 10 feet away from me! The 30 or so of them scurried back into the woods, so I followed them until the ravens chatter caught my attention. After briefly speaking amongst my corvid kin, I spotted a bald eagle soaring overhead, then close by in the trees! Just up the hill where the cattle grazed, another conspiracy of ravens were antagonizing a hawk. My little sister and I had an absolutely enchanting time making these Blessing Eggs for Ostara! 🥚✨💐 Here's a quick step-by-step how-to for anyone who'd like to try it at home 😄 In case it's not obvious: In the third picture I am blowing out the eggs (as shown in the second picture, you'll want to poke holes in both sides with a pin first, and after that, let them dry overnight) In the sixth I am letting tissue paper soaked in modpodge dry over the holes to seal them. (My Mum told me afterwards that the more traditional method that her father taught her growing up is to drip candle wax over the holes. Definitely trying that next year time! The one in the bottom middle is my sister and I blessing our mum by cracking a glitter (and good will!) filled egg over her head The last is an awesome bonus surprise we discovered at the end: beautiful sparkly inner-sides of the broken shells!
