A group in Raleigh marched in protest against North Carolina’s proposed House Bill 237, called the “Unmasking Mobs and Criminals” bill, which passed in the Senate 30-15 earlier this month. Some republican supporters say the bill “would help law enforcement crack down on protesters who wear masks” (Fox59). My yearly bike trip south has become a ritual. Meeting people I wouldn’t ordinarily meet, experience things would never cross my mind or radar otherwise, and see parts of this country that I’ve always wanted to. It’s these experiences, that are the true reason why I love motorcycles and always have. The son of the local who took this picture while I was resting during my @indianmotorcycle trip From Maine through Appalachia (@shenandoahnps and @blueridgenps to the @greatsmokynps) to Florida last year, called me yesterday after his 100+ year old great grandfather asked about the “Lobster Biker” who stopped by the farm last year. After this photo was taken, we spoke for a while about life, business, and more. I learned this family’s farm on the VA/NC border has been in their family over 200 years with many of the original buildings still on site. Multiple generations of their family have homesteads on the over 2500 acre plot. While the world has changed their business has too- shrinking their farm to a more manageable size, focusing on serving local families and communities… a many a passerby like me :). They invited me to stop by, which I did , while we didn’t have time for a tour I did sample many of their homegrown products like honey, strawberries, apples , jerky and more. I fell in love with this part of the country, thanks in part to this family and their way of life. They were the nicest people with the most beautiful piece of privately owned property I’d seen on my journey up. What do you think is behind reality? What makes the clockwork of reality tick? When we talk about an "ethnomedical" system, we're usually referring to a medical system that is not Anglo or Anglo-American. Usually, they play by different rules about how reality works. In example, germ theory says disease is caused by germs. A holistic model says imbalance causes disease (while germs may play a part, the cause is not germs but imbalance). An ethnomedical holistic model is the process of seeking to find the imbalance and remedy it in the context of a specific culture that is not Anglo-American. "Rootwork" is the working of the roots. It's the manipulation of things unseen which manifest health and harmony. Roots nourish and communicate, stabilize and restrict. Rootwork, also called conjure or hoodoo, is an ethnomedical practice that originates in the Transatlantic slave trade. It's been used primarily for protection and empowerment of the oppressed who were seeking justice, safety, freedom, and health. It has been demonized by those in power for centuries because it threatened the ability for slave owners to control their slaves, who then passed the culture of it being "dangerous/bad/evil" down. @phoebe.hildegard 's two upcoming classes are our first offerings of the tradition often interchangeably referred to as conjure, hoodoo, or rootwork. I really hope you can be there for these. It is extremely unusual that a respected member of the rootwork/conjure/hoodoo community is willing to open up to strangers like this and you won't want to miss your chance! The first is on ethical working of the roots to bring the love you want into your life, or to bring an abundance of love. When there's not enough love in your life, that's a sickness. Phoebe can help with the remedying of those ailments. The second is a never-before-seen class on resiliency. Pride month is demanding for everyone. How can we have more energy and strength through the month, and in our day-to-day lives? Although this class is written specifically for the rainbow community, all are welcome! After all, couldn't we all use a bit more resiliency? (You know where to look to get your spot!)

The Tullie Smith Farm is a small plantation or farm house, built circe 1840 by Robert and Elizabeth Smith. It is Atlanta's oldest surviving farm house. It is a typical kind of plantation house owned by small farmers. Today the farm is located at the Atlanta History Center. The landscape represents the Smith Farm in its early era, with historic varieties of crops in the fields, the enslaved people's garden, the kitchen garden, and a swept yard by the house planted with heirloom flowers such as love-lies-bleeding and rose campion . Surrounding the farm's outbuildings are naturalistic, native plantings. Heritage-breed sheep, goats, chickens, and turkeys are representative of the types of livestock found on this type of farm. Prior to emancipation, between eleven and nineteen enslaved people also lived and worked on the farm at any one time, their labor integral to farming such a large plot of land. The enslaved people worked the 600-acre farm, producing cotton, butter, honey, and oats along with hogs, cattle and sheep. The Smiths would be considered equivalent to upper middle class for their time and location within the state. After the Civil War and emancipation, Robert and Elizabeth Smith retained ownership of the farm until 1875, when Robert died and Elizabeth moved away. By the 1960s the house was surrounded by highways and development. The last Smith to occupy the property was Tullie, the great-great-granddaughter of Robert. Well that does it for IOA this morning. I made my rounds at IOA and hit every major attraction including ever water rides. The highlight was definitely the zen ride on Hagrid's first train of the day. That was super awesome. I really enjoy that ride and after getting 2 rides on Velocicoaster was fun to. Unfortunately after that the park was slammed and even though Hulk had zero people in single rider the line for the metal detectors was 30 min limiting my rides there. On top of that I rode Popey since it's refurb and every waterfall was off so it's now gone from no1 water ride in Orlando to about 6th behind river adventure and Duddly as well. Duddly being the wettest ride at IOA now. Other than that I rode Dr Doom which actually had a line and was able to enjoy a bit of the atmosphere as well.
