May is #cysticfibrosisawarenessmonth I was diagnosed with CF just before I turned 17. Before that I was misdiagnosed at Asthmatic, then as having Bronchiectasis. This meant I went for nearly 17 years without the proper medications. I have double Delta F508 mutations, which means I'm able to have the life-changing medication Kaftrio. My lungs are at 47%, I'm pancreatic insufficient, I have joint pain, CF-related liver disease and a lot of digestion issues. Due to my CF, I also suffer from fatigue, brain fog, lung and sinus infections, CF-related diabetes, nasal Polyps, chronic kidney disease. I like to raise awareness to show others with CF that they are not alone 💛 Also, the more people that are aware of CF and the related complications, the more people can understand what we go through on a daily basis. With more understanding, there's more of a chance they might help raise money leading to life-changing breakthroughs with medications etc. Without people's understanding and fundraising, we wouldn't have the miracle that is Kaftrio, which has helped save a lot of lives. British lawmaker and sepsis survivor Craig Mackinlay was greeted with a standing ovation last week as he returned to Parliament for the first time since initially becoming ill in September. I'm feeling a tad better, but I just woke up. I know my body is capable of hard things. I've had cancer twice. I've been septic twice. Had 3 bariatric surgeries. A concussion which lead to chronic migraines. I've broken my hand and ankle and had hip bursitis from a calcium deposit in my butt 🫣😆. My oncologist said that it will take time when the treatments are done to feel 100%. He said likely up to 90% for at least a year before back to 100%. And while I'm not the most patient person, for that I am grateful. Because, depsite all that I've been through in my life, I am lucky. It could always be worse. My goal when this is all said and done, is to not only get myself back into the best physical condition I can be, but to also dedicate my time and energy to helping others who are struggling with similar situations! Popped into the Stow this afternoon for a brief walk, trying to rebuild my energy, have been quite lethargic this week. Sepsis has wiped me out.....But I've seen physio and slowly day by day I'll get better. Wanted to give my admiration for the MP Craig MacKinlay who has bounced back from Sepsis. What a truly courageous being he is and gives hope to us all. As mentioned last year, unfortunately, Sepsis is on the increase, and we will sadly hear more about Sepsis, especially with the levels of pollution. The only advice I can give is to look out for the signs detailed with the UK Sepsis Trust, nothing is too small to speak up about. Firstly, I would like to apologise for not updating everyone I have been seriously going through a lot and been going insane with the itching and rash. I went back to the specialist on 21st for my biopsy results which show a bad form of eczema and an allergic reaction to medication. Which medication no one knows. The end of my stumps, my arms, my legs, knees, back and lips are just one big rash and raw in most parts so I have for once in a very long time not been a happy chappy and found myself in tears because of the discomfort that taking a sleeping tablet and just sleeping most of the time has been the only relief. From here on the specialist has put me onto an immunosuppressant BUT this obviously brings down your immune system and without a spleen, which helps fight infections, I am let's say a special case and more susceptible to infections. Wonderful hey! Had to have blood tests done to check my markers, platelets etc are at a suitable count before I start the immunosuppressant. These results I will only get tomorrow🤞🏻 and then every month I will have to have blood tests done and see the specialist. I just pray I get some relief from this insanity caused by this. The worst is no gym, which is my craving and gets the good vibes and endorphins going. Boy oh boy have things changed in a year. I have struggled to feel beautiful within this health journey, not feeling well enough to do my make up, maintaining my blonde, losing hair, weight changes. LLS knows and understands that cancer treatments shouldn’t be the same for kids as it is for adults. Through their DARE TO DREAM initiative LLS recognizes children are different than adults and their blood cancers need to be treated differently: A one-size treatment doesn’t fit all. So they created The Dare to Dream Project, a bold and urgent campaign to transform their treatment and care. Nevaeh was part of a clinical trial. Research saved my girls life. Research is CURE. I let my self go bad September 2023 I was hospitalized for a kidney infection on both with sepsis the Infection went too my blood which is bad doctor said if I had waited a week I would of died and went into septic shock . My lips had turned blue and i had chills thats were bad i remember crying saying I’m going too die .I was out for 6 months I couldn’t eat or sleep. I lost 20 pounds I couldn’t do anything because my heart rate would get too 160 . I got depressed because I couldn’t go gym but I knew my health came first . In April 2023, forty-year-old Jamie developed extreme body aches that she assumed were due to the flu. However, she soon developed chills and intense abdominal pain that sent her to the ER. “Doctors discovered my uterus and ovaries were necrotic and performed a hysterectomy,” she says. “Afterwards, my condition worsened and streptococcus bacteria was identified. I was given a 2% chance of survival.” Jamie spent months in the hospital and had to have all four of her limbs amputated. Last October, she was finally able to return home from her rehab center. EDS AWARENESS DAY 20: Share a smile. 😃 I’ve been in more hospitals than I can count. In August 2022, just a year after my septic shock crisis, I found myself in the hospital again with a partial bowel blockage caused by all the adhesions that built up after the two massive abdominal surgeries the previous year. But I still managed to muster a smile. And thankfully, the blockage passed after lots of IV fluids, no need for more surgery! I love smiling, I think it lifts people up to see someone smiling, so I do it often. And, it takes less muscles in the face to smile, rather than frown. Four years ago, on this very day, I was discharged from GWV after a harrowing experience in the ICU. Intubation/extubation, 4 surgeries in 3 days, step-down units, and relearning basic functions like eating and speaking, my battle with Ludwig’s Angina (There’s a very low survival rate from Ludwig’s because it is typically misdiagnosed!), Sepsis, and C-Diff was no laughing matter. Surviving all 3 simultaneously is truly a miracle. I owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to all the doctors at GWV, especially the @geisinger.omfs team - you all rock! The ICU nurses were my lifeline during those dark days, tirelessly updating my husband, sitting by my side, and providing comfort even amidst the chaos of Covid. To the entire GWV staff, my family (blood & chosen) and friends, and my husband, Mike - thank you for carrying me through this journey. Though even now there are still tough days, I cherish the good ones and embrace my new normal with gratitude. Diagnostiqué crohn très sévère à l’âge de 7 ans, ma vie depuis, est un enfer. Une enfance passée à l’hôpital, une adolescence à côtoyer la réanimation, un début de vie d’adulte à frôler la mort à plusieurs reprises. Si jeune mais si malade. Voilà un maigre aperçu du calvaire que je vie depuis toute petite. Des dizaines de traitements essayés, des mois voir des années passées à l’hôpital, des centaines d’examens, des milliers d’aiguilles dans le corps, une dizaine d’opérations. La maladie a tout ravagé sur son passage. Ablation de plus de la moitié de mes intestins et donc poche de stomie définitive. Détérioration des articulations et tendons. Dénutrition et déshydratation sévère chronique. Nécessitant une nutrition artificielle chaque nuit. Insuffisance surrénale sévère du au traitement. Nécessitant des injections vitales chaque jour. Ostéoporose, carence et anémie sévère. Mon quotidien n’est plus que survis. Un combat permanent pour que mon corps tienne le coup malgré les séquelles de tant d’années de lutte pour vivre. Reflecting Sitting back looking at the first half of the year so far has been something I am avoiding. Today I am touching on only a small part because if I talk about it all I think the magnitude of it all will be my undoing. So I am going to mourn. I miss me. I miss life before intubation, necrotic pneumonia, osteomyelitis and blood clots. I miss not being tied to a medical schedule. I miss days not filled with hospital appointments and endless driving to and from hospital. I miss working with my best friend every day. I miss the ignorance of letting my child run around and nothing bad happening to them. I miss not having to worry whenever I leave the house. I miss nightmare free sleeps. I miss the simplicity of my life. Life forever changed the day they took her away and put her to sleep. Before this experience I had never heard of @bravegowns, and now they have become one of our biggest supporters and friends. 🩵 Instead of a Go Fund Me, our family decided to partner with Brave Gowns, by doing a gown fundraiser for @mottchildren. For every gown gifted, Mott’s will receive the gown, and our family will receive the net proceeds. This has been a huge blessing for us during these crazy times, but more importantly, we’ve already had 433 gowns purchased!!! 🙌🏻 Mott’s has 348 beds, so we made a goal of 1,000 gowns (1,044 to be exact) so that every patients can receive more than one gown. I know for us we go through a few sometimes depending on the day! Kennedy LOVES these gowns so much more than the standard ones. These are much cuter, softer, and offer a lot more coverage, which means she’s more comfortable overall. She’s also super excited for this fundraiser. She’ll ask me multiple times a day how many gowns have been purchased so far. She is so happy that she’s able to take her situation and somehow use it to bring joy to other kids in similar situations. Einige haben mich ja gefragt, warum ich denn nicht das Genium X3 von #ottobock genommen habe. Leider passt das bei mir von der Aufbauhöhe nicht . Ich bin zu klein und mein Stumpf durch die Knieex ist zu lang. Many of you don’t know my situation, and I don’t care to elaborate on it now that’s not the point of this post. I have just recently (reluctantly) posted about my hospital stay, because I don’t want a pity party. I don’t ever post solely for attention… I’m intentional. I’m always transparent, so what you see in my stories, and on my timeline is what you get in real life with me… the great, the good, the bad and the ugly. I did decide to go ahead and post for the purpose of a testimony. There are so many things that come out of this already. I am eternally, grateful, even though I’m in pain, even though I have felt discomfort and have been tormented with uncertainty. I am grateful!! When it’s all said and done, I will have a great testimony to share. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! I am well! To those of you that have paid attention, or have called to check on me in general and found out that I was here and have wished me well or sent me gifts or even bought dinner for my family because of my absence from them… I appreciate you .
