Whether you will love every second of the next 2.5 months OR you have a countdown chain in your closet until your child’s “meet the teacher day”, helping your child have some semblance of structure to their summer days is something to consider. While my brother and I spent countless days barefoot in the creek followed by late nights catching fireflies in Mason jars and playing “Capture the Flag” with our neighborhood tribe, we began every summer day with a sense of order and responsibility. My mom made a chart, and while we had tasks in several categories that she encouraged us to complete each day, it was up to us when and how to complete them. Consider having your child do something each day in the following categories: *Something PHYSICAL *Something EDUCATIONAL *Something HELPFUL If you think about it, this is structured much like a classroom, so your child is used to completing tasks in all three of these categories. We try to be with her every second, comforting her and reassuring her that everything will be fine. Fever, weight loss, irritation - these are just a small part of what we face every day. And there are still several radiation therapy sessions ahead, and then a major examination. At this moment we need your support more than ever. But even in the darkest moments, our Agata does not lose hope. She makes plans for the future, dreaming of a time when all this will be just a distant memory. This day again reminded us how hard our little Agatochka is fighting. This afternoon she will have follow-up blood tests - another step on the road to recovery. 😔 But on this difficult day they brought us bright happiness. Volunteer girls from Poland brought not only support, but also a piece of joy into Agata’s life. They handed over a box of clothes for the summer - colorful dresses, multi-colored T-shirts and even treasured sandals. Now our princess has something to wear every day. 🎨 But the most touching thing is the box for creativity. After all, Agata loves to create something with her own hands. She weaves jewelry, creates paintings from crystals, and simply paints. And these girls directly guessed her desires and gave her what she loves and needs so much. 💖 We thank them with all our might. It was unexpected and so touching. After all, summer is already here, and Agata has grown from last year’s things. Your gifts gave her a smile and strength to continue the fight. What is bitterness? It is strong resentment or cynicism. How do parents create bitterness in their children? Consider the following triggers: a) Inconsistency. This happens when you are autocratic and authoritarian one day and permissive the next. What brought a strong rebuke today brings a smile of leniency tomorrow. So, your child never knows what to expect. b) Moodiness. Today you’re fun and enjoyable to be with; tomorrow you’re irritable and distant. c) Unreasonableness. There is no room for discussion, no opportunity for children to explore their feelings. ‘Just do as I say because I say it!’ So, the kid is never given the chance to think through the reasoning process. d) Abusive behaviour. It might be physical or emotional (withholding your love, the silent treatment, rejection). Or it might be verbal (yelling and using words that wound). e) Failing to walk your talk – saying one thing but doing another! You profess certain beliefs but don’t practise them. You expect your kids to be respectful while you display disrespect to others. You expect honesty from your children, but they see you cheat and lie your way through life. Children are keen observers – they may not say anything, but not much that you do escapes their attention. They see your inconsistencies – when what you say doesn’t line up with what you do. These days have been filled with difficult trials, and our hearts are breaking with great pain. 😢Agata increasingly began to complain about stomach pain and suffer from nausea. Over the weekend, she even complained of pain in her leg, which prevented her from falling asleep. It is indescribably difficult to see our little princess suffer. 🎗️But even in these moments of pain and fear, Agatochka continues to be a true hero. She boldly runs to every therapy, kisses me in the hallway and boldly steps forward holding the nurse’s hand. Her strength and courage are an inspiration to us all. 🙏 Please continue to keep Agata in your prayers and thoughts.
