The 2003 Commemorative Edition Power Master Optimus Prime with Apex Armor Part 4. Lets close out this series with the final transformation. Once your PMOP is complete, seperate the Apex armor into its indivudual parts. Simply follow the instructions. The parts clip on with pegs/holes giving PMOP some platform shoes. He looks great all around but its a huge leap away from what I grew up with the G1 american series. 🌆 Since I first moved to Cleveland, just over 2 decades ago, I’ve been highly in-tune with the energy of this city. Back in 2007 when I began writing the first draft of my screenplay, I wrote about a Downtown Casino. About a year later the paperwork was signed on that and then later a Casino moved in. The first draft also included a murder scene in MLK drive, by the century old brick arched bridges. Within a year or so (tragically) a body was found there. In the subsequent revisions of the script, and a few years ago, I included the development of the famous Irish Bend. And yes, now that’s happening, too. There’s no I Told You So lesson here. It’s just that since the moment I arrived here, and situated myself downtown, at a time when that was simply not the thing to do, CTown began whispering to me. She whispers. I write. The 2003 Commemorative Edition Power Master Optimus Prime with Apex Armor Part 3. I never got PMOT back in 89. He was hard to find, and if I did find it (FAO Schwarze 49.99) it was too expensive for an 11 year old kid in the 80s. I found this version in Toys R Us...I think back in 2003/2004. When I opened it, I had no idea who or wtf an Apex Bommer was. It wasnt until I started doing TF Stop-Mo's in 2007 that I learned about God Bomber, Super Ginrai, and the Japanese Transformers canon. Apex Armor/God Bomber extends PMOP's trailer, making it to scale with his 1984 counterpart. It's mainly a "partsformers" and can be towed by either Optimus himself or behind Optimus's trailer. Just plug the peg into Optimus's legs or put the trailer mount between the legs of the trailee/armor. The Apex Armor has multiple modes. Attack Mode needs simple adjustment of the redwings, and cannons. Hi-Q can ride atop the twin cannon. Apex Armor comes with a missile launcher. This version has "child safe" missiles and a weakened spring launcher vs the smaller "dangerous/funner" Takara missiles. You can take apart the Apex Armor trailer and reconfigure the parts to create Apex Bomber/God Bomber. Flimsy, but huge. He towers the other power master figures and is the same height as PMOP. Last step is to combine the Apex Armor with PMOP. The 2003 Commemorative Edition Power Master Optimus Prime with Apex Armor Part 2. This version of PMOP is similar to the Japanese Takara Ginrai version. The cab and HiQ has vac-metal and dicast parts and plastic windows vs the all plastic and stickered windows of the vintage 1989 version. The smoke stacks have vac-metal but are shorter. When combined with his trailer, PMOP is huge. Very beefy. His arms however seem too small in comparison. The vintage 1989 version had even shorter arms. The new headsculpt is great but even to this day, the red eyes make it alkward. We have associated autobots and decepticons by their eye color for decades. The original 1989 G1 toy had red eye colors so it shouldnt matter, but why change the new Optimus figure to blue eyes and not the new PMOP? Articulation is minimal at best. The arms can rotate up and down at the shoulders and can swing 90 degrees out. This version and the 1990 takara version have a new sculpted elbow joint vs the solid arm. Why stop there? Elbow joints are so essential!! Like the Takara version, the hands are retractable. The legs cannot rotate front to back but can open side to side in a full 180 splits. He's surprisingly balanced too. PMOP can dual wield his rifles. With that hinge in the shoulder, he coule even hold it sideways. At this time, Rhino Home video were releasing Transformers episodes on VHS and DVD. You should be able to find these small flyers in this boxed set. We're almost done here. The main cab transforms into Optimus Prime. However, unlike the vintage 1984 version, the front of the cab becomes the back, and unfolding the arms reveals the front of Optimus, sporting larger chest windows. Articulation is minimal at best. The arms only bend at the elbows and can barely hold hold the rifles. The legs are bound together so he isnt kicking anyone anytime soon. The eyes on this version are blue. The vintage 1989 version had red eyes. This version of Optimus looks like he needs an energon sandwich. His engine/nebulon Hi-Q has a simple transformation and clips into Optimus's front grill. This will release a clamp that prevents optimus transforming from vehicle mode to robot. You can also press into the front grill to get the same effect. I wonder how many kids broke their PMOP trying to figure it out without the instructions. The trailer door can open but barely fit anything inside. Just PMOP's head I suppose. The trailer transforms into a battle station with ramps and cannons. The grey cannons have clips that allow other Power Master Nebulons to sit on. The battle station can be transformed into the armor to make Power Master Optimus Prime.
