I really lucked out once again today at the Opry Shop near the @opry here in Nashville. Check out the music stuff I got. First I got a fantastic t-shirt of the Man in Black himself Johnny Cash that shows several of his hit songs on it which I've always wanted to get. Next, what's inside that cardboard roll is a poster of a 2018 Opry show with Charley Pride that I've been thinking about getting for the past year and so today's the day to finally grab it. Then, I got a 2011 compilation CD of Josh Turner titled "Icon" that features many of his best known hits. Lastly, I got this fantastic 2015 book called "Grand Ole Opry Family Album: 97th Anniversary" that tells the whole History from the 1920s to modern times especially the stars who became members of the Opry through the years and to be honest I love it. On this day back in the year 1973, once again the Classic Country Singer Charley Pride released 2 of his well known popular records "Don't Fight the Feelings of Love" (written by John Schweers) & "Tennessee Girl" (written by Ben Peters) in the US on 45 RPM which the 1st song was a big hit on the Country Charts while the other song didn't chart but however was a popular live favorite and that same month and year they both appeared on his 20th album "Sweet Country". "Don't Fight the Feelings of Love" is pretty much a very well known Country Love Song while "Tennessee Girl" is both a very well known Country Tennessee Song & Love Song and of course I love them both myself. These 2 songs have always been big favorites of mine, they are for sure really great ones and they both go according to my taste in Country Music. I love the 2 songs and the Singer Charley Pride, he's got several classics and I really do enjoy listening to his stuff very much. Another one of the best in Music. In light of recent events with Beyoncé and the country music community, I wanted to share this story. Loretta Lynn detailed how she was instructed to not interact with Charley Pride, a Black country artist, when accepting an award in 1972. “My daddy was color-blind in two ways. About the only color he could see real good was yellow, and I have trouble telling red from orange myself. But we were also color-blind about people. It’s like in 1972, when I was up for the award for Best Female Singer on national television, and Charley Pride was going to present the award. People warned me not to kiss Charley in case I won, because it would hurt my popularity with country fans,” Lynn wrote in the book. She continued, “I heard that one girl singer got canceled out down South after giving a little peck to a black friend on television. Well, Charley Pride is one of my favorite people in country music, and I got so mad that when I won, I made sure I gave him a big old hug and a kiss right on camera. You know what? Nobody canceled on me. Happy Birthday to Classic Country, Folk & Rockabilly Singer/Songwriter and Record Producer, Cowboy Jack Clement. Born today back in the year 1931 and he would've been 93 years old if he's still alive. He's another very talented man in Classic Country, Folk & Rockabilly Music who had quite a talent for not only singing but also for writing many incredible classic songs that became hits for artists especially the ones who had him as a record producer. For instance, Charley Pride had him as a record producer and Jack wrote him certain songs that became some of his best known hit records consisting of "Just Between You and Me" (1966), "I Know One" (1967) which was first a 1960 Country Hit for Jim Reeves & especially "Let the Chips Fall" (1968). For Johnny Cash, Jack wrote some of his best known hit records consisting of "Ballad of a Teenage Queen" (1957), "Guess Things Happen That Way" (1958) & "The One on the Right Is on the Left" (1966). He also wrote a song called "Miller's Cave" which became a 1960 Country Hit for Hank Snow and a 1964 Country Hit for Bobby Bare. Overall, I think he's awesome, super talented and very clever to come up with those amazing hit classics of those artists that just so happen to be huge favorites of mine. He's also a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame as well. In 2013, he passed away at the age of 82 but hopefully he made it to heaven. Well folks, here's 2 tickets to my very 1st Charley Pride show along with 3 photos taken at the show!! The date was September 11, 2010 (I was 9 years old at that time and I just entered the 4th grade) and it's at the State Fair in Vermont!! That's pretty much a fun vacation trip during the fall my mom and our friend John decided to take not just for the fair, but because John got me interested in Charley Pride's awesome music so we thought it would be awesome to go see him live in person (me and my mom's 1st time ever to go see him). One thing to be aware of though, at this time my hugest interest and main focus was The Wiggles so this interest I had in Charley Pride didn't last long when I was 9, however that did change later on in 2017 at the age of 16 when my official Classic Country Music Interest started. Anyways, Charley was pretty much 76 when he did this show and pretty much was still going strong at doing live shows like this at that time. He pretty much performed his best known hits from the 60s to the 80s including my very 1st favorite of him which was his biggest hit single written by Ben Peters "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'" (as shown in the 1st photo) at this particular show and I must say he did very well. After the show, John and I took a really nice photo with him (as shown in the 1st and 2nd photo). It was a terrific show overall, I will never forget it as long as I live. When I was growing up in a small Ohio town in the 1980s, the rules were simple. Anything sung by a White person was White people’s music. Anything sung by Black people was Black people’s music. The boundaries between the two were strictly enforced in our schools, where friendships between White people and Black people were rare and racial tensions ran high. Crossing the musical color lines resulted in public ridicule. So, if I liked any song by a White artist, I learned to listen to it in private and never tell anyone. Back then, if you wanted to record a song that you liked, you had to wait by the radio, sometimes for hours, and press the record button on your clunky tape recorder at just the right time. (This often meant recording the DJ’s voice or a snippet of a local ad as well.) So, I waited and recorded Duran Duran and a Flock of Seagulls in secret. I wasn’t alone: My father kept his Charley Pride tapes tucked away and would only get them out when no one else was around. In 1979, my mother made the mistake of buying a 45 of Journey’s “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’,” and, when she put it on the turntable, her own family turned against her so hard that she didn’t dare listen to it again. At least not until she thought she was alone. Back then, listening to White music was considered a betrayal of your Blackness. I still have Black friends who would read me for filth if they knew about my love of Silversun Pickups and the Shins. They would playfully, but seriously, suggest that my Blackness had been compromised. If they’re reading this, I guess they know now. “Cowboy Carter,” Beyoncé’s latest album, hit the airwaves and it has me wondering how and why my community got to that point. Even I rolled my eyes a bit when I heard Beyoncé was releasing a country-themed album. But when I heard the first single, “Texas Hold ’Em,” I quit my eye-rolling. I liked it instantly; because it’s catchy and danceable but also because, as it was Beyoncé, I was allowed to like it. 🐎 Visit the link in our bio to read more.

The album consists of the following 3 singles: "Mountain of Love" which was a popular cover of a 1959 Famous Song written and originally recorded by Harold Dorman (1981), "I Don't Think She's in Love Anymore" (same year as the album) & of course "You're So Good When You're Bad" (also same year). This album is for sure another very enjoyable one and it also goes according to my taste in Country Music. I love both the album and the singer Charley Pride, he's got several classics and I really do enjoy listening to his stuff very much. Another one of the best in Music. #CharleyPride 👑🎤🎶🎼🎸⚾, born March 18th, 1934, was a brilliantly transformative Black American singer, guitarist, and professional baseball player. When Pride was 14, his mother purchased him his first guitar, and he taught himself to play. Though he loved music, one of Pride's lifelong dreams was to become a professional baseball player. Pride pitched for the Memphis Red Sox of the Negro American League. He was a 2x Negro league All-Star from 1956–1957. After being drafted in to the Army he played on the Army Fort's baseball team. That team won the "All Army" sports championship. After his service Pride also pitched in the Pioneer League & for several other minor league teams including a farm team of the #Yankees. As an artist his career actually started as a performer at his own baseball games. Once his talent was discovered, a star was born & the rest was history. His greatest musical success came in the early to mid 1970s, when he was the best-selling performer for RCA Records since Elvis. During the peak years of his recording career (1966–1987), he had 52 top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, 30 of which made it to number one. His pop success was unprecedented & he created a country/pop crossover sound that was reaching country music in the 1960s and early 1970s. Known as the #Countrypolitan" Charley is a country music legend. His 1969 compilation album, #TheBestofCharleyPride, sold more than one million copies. He won the Entertainer of the Year award at the Country Music Association Awards in 1971. Pride is one of three Black-American members of the #GrandOleOpry alongside #DeFordBailey and #DariusRucker. The Grammys & the Country Music Association awarded him Lifetime Achievement Awards and #Pride was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
