The Mar-Keys - Memphis Experience (1971) Stax Records 👉This week's theme: Pastime Paradise Yes!!I love this one! Not a Mar-Keys record (the band didn't excist anymore. But actually a mostly instrumental Bar-Kays album from their he-days. The three best tracks are outtakes from the follow up of the great: 'Black Rock' album, and black rock it is indeed. A Memphis fried stew of heavy psychedelic funk rock. Starting with a 10 minute version of 'Cloud Nine'. Heavy on the horns, right down to the core of thangs: a heavy intro and drumbreak, soon makes way for a brutal gospelfide rock pattern. That intro is insane! The album was produced by Henry 'Creeper' Bush who was the nightwatch at Stax and was given a chance to show what he was worth in a studio. That he was into the Detroit sound of George Clinton and Norman Whitfield is evident on the albums highlight: 'Creeper's Funkatrations'. Heavy Rocking fuzz guitars and horns makes this a real groovefest, what an insane banger, that driving beat goes on and on. The other Bar Kays track is a redention of 'Reach Out'. The rest of the album is not as spectaculair as the BK songs but still very good. Played by a band of top Stax session players, mostly guys that were in the Isaac Hayes Movement (and Hi guitar virtuoso Teenie Hodges). I like the Russel song 'Hummingbird', just as heavy on the horns as the rest of the album. I think this is a real hidden gem in the Stax collection. It is just one of the many albums that were released simultanously during their Soul Explosion and vanished without a trace. Admiring the album art of my Bar-Kays albums 😍 I love these guys so much and I’m so proud that they’re from my city!! #MEMPHIS one of the funkiest bands to ever do it!! They are definitely one of the reasons for me being an old soul lol. The lead singer, Larry Dodson, is one of my biggest vocal inspirations ever 🥹 y’all know how much I love unorthodox singers and he is just that!! He has some of the most unique riffs and runs I’ve ever heard lol! He’s also a self taught vocalist that didn’t grow up singing in a choir, which is amazing to me because he is so soulful!! I’m so glad I got to tell him how much I admired him last year (at a Tony Toni Tone concert) 😆❣️ This is def not the last Bar-Kays post y’all will see from me! ［ BAR KAY'S Moscow Mule ] 早上去喝咖啡，晚上來到位於大阪的酒吧！一開始進店的時候，因為又沒有菜單，不太知道要點什麼。起初想說要點個短飲型的酒，結果我發現我不會這個的日文，解釋一陣子之後未果，後來講了理想的價格區間，對方好像很不悅，可能對這間太低了QQ，可是我窮啊，但...酒類名稱大部分的日文用語我都沒特別學啊，經典調酒我也不知道對方有什麼原料。想要好喝的，我自己都覺得我對於「好」的說法挺抽象的，要直接說有酸有甜好像也不真這麼想。 好啦回來談調酒，這杯是經典調酒的莫斯科驢子，原則上就是伏特加、青檸檬、薑汁再加上汽水，經典到不行，但這間真的做到逆天，不得不佩服裡面對於萃取技術表達的新鮮與完整性，相當優秀的好調酒。 一遞上來，就是新鮮的檸檬香氣，他的萃取方式真的厲害，不知道怎麼做的，青檸檬香氣細緻悠長，好像回到了在台南永樂市場喝的檸檬汁，就是那麼新鮮。喝下去酒精感只是襯底，充分發揮了伏特加的墊底作用，而薑汁萃取的更是厲害，在尾段帶著純正的薑香與辣感的同時，適切地與伏特加結合在一起，完全是天作之合的加味。最後是七喜的甜感與氣泡感，也是這杯的爽口之處（雖然個人不太喜歡七喜就是了）。 因為店內不給拍，所以我就只拍酒。老闆基本上就是放大家自己聊天，是間比較愜意可以做自己事情的酒吧！大家就欣賞一下這杯莫斯科驢子吧！有機會來大阪真的大推來這間嚐嚐看。 （這間店可店內吸煙喔） #barkays
