I recently watched a reel suggesting that people with depression are a burden to their friends and that they shouldn’t be honest about how they’re truly feeling. This couldn’t be more wrong. People with depression need love, support, & understanding from their family and friends. They shouldn’t be made to feel less than because they’re struggling with their mental health. Why should people suffer in silence just to make others more comfortable around them? You’re not fixing the problem, but instead throwing it under the rug. This compounds issues and makes them worse. If “friends” are burdened by you or your mental health struggles then they aren’t truly your friends. What you’re going through is difficult. Your feelings are valid and you aren’t alone. I used to hide my depression, but in the past 6 months I’ve learned that my feelings are 100% valid and I shouldn’t do and say things just to make others comfortable. Life is unpredictable and God gave us the capacity to feel many feelings. Let’s learn to be a little more compassionate and supportive of others. Fit shaming? Didn’t you mean ‘fat shaming’? Fit shaming is about the negativity to people who succeeded creating a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition and exercise. People aren’t used seeing drastic changes so they respond in both negative and positive ways. About 10 years ago I decided to needed to improve my nutrition, because I felt my body didn’t recover well. I gained muscle mass and lost body fat. I was aware of the fact that people often project their own insecurities on others, but if my skin were a bit thinner, I probably would have decided to fall back into my old habits. Most reactions were very positive and supportive, but some were just nasty. Who would have thought that ‘a colleague’ at a gym would disapprove of someone choosing a healthier lifestyle? I wasn’t starving myself, I wasn’t showing off my body on instagram as I do now. Luckily those close to me were very supportive, but I’m aware that it easily could have been the other way around. People kept asking me if I was on social media, as they wanted me to share my journey. I know a girl who was bullied out of a gym because she lost 50 lbs. She joined another gym where nobody knew what she used to look like. If you encounter negativity from dear ones it either could be out of their own insecurity. It could also be that it’s not negativity, but genuine concern. It can also be because you turned into an annoying douche bag giving unsolicited advice. If they can’t understand your choices, agree to disagree, embrace the difference or let each other go. Other people don’t have to understand you. You don’t have to understand them. Validate yourself instead of seeking approval from others. Dear Body, You were never the problem. There is nothing wrong with your size… you’re good enough already. Love, Me. ❗️ A fitness journey can be a long road running, but also a learning road to🙏🏻 I’ve been on my fitness journey for about 6 years now where I have seen and learnt so much. I’ve seen my body change in many ways, I’ve had 2 children, I’ve lost weight, I’ve gained weight, I’ve struggled eating and eating the right foods, but most of all I’ve struggled with the changes, like accepting your body does change. Thinking and feeling a bigger size means I’m not good enough. Well that is wrong no matter your size, no matter your weight! You are good enough. It’s a sad and hard thing to admit. But I know deep down I’m not been the only person in this position who feels like this. And that is ok. You can get support. There is a whole amazing kind society out there. Try to move forward, getting past that horrible feeling and remembering you’re healthy and can be happy with your size and enjoy your life. Speak to someone. I still have fitness goals of course, because I know what my body has been through before and what it’s used to plus achieved. But note to self, dont be so hard on yourself that you haven’t achieved it yet! A weight loss journey can take time for some people and like I said that’s ok❤️. You got this. Believe in you. When I started on this journey over a year ago, my husband was my biggest supporter! We moved around a lot for his job when we first got married and homeschooled our kids when they were young. He knew I always wanted to have something for myself. And he wanted it for me. He was there time and time again through the loss of dear friends; and we’ve been by each other’s side through the loss of our parents. Today we celebrate 19 years, teenage children, and even bigger dreams. We both have the same mindset of, if you find something you love to do, you will do it for a lifetime.
