We learned about the benefits and value of this practice, which can look very intimidating, but in a beginners setting was so intriguing, challenging and useful. I will definitely go back for the 7 am weekday warm up class, and try the Wednesday evening ladies class. If you haven’t checked out the new studio yet, you should! Last night we participated in our first #selfcareexpo group activity. Business owners in the self-care industry are getting together monthly to network and experience each other’s area of self-care. We will be sharing these activities with you leading up to our first self-care expo in January 2024. Our inaugural activity was a Yin Yoga class. In Yin, one holds their post Orion for longer periods of time. This stretches your connective tissue and settles your mind. Yin can help with focus, relaxation and anxiety. Learning to trust yourself and feel safe in your own body IS the point of self-care! It doesn’t matter what you choose, you can drink the water, eat the good food or go for the walk, meditate, do yoga, pause for 3 minutes, lock the bathroom door when you pee or have your own personal dance party. The point is that you are doing things that are just for you! Whatever it is that you're doing, whatever drop you put into the bucket that has your name on it, counts! We can get so caught up in worrying about how much of any particular self-care thing we’re doing, we miss the real reason we’re doing it. The real reason self-care is so important and why gurus the world over recommend it, is for what comes AFTER you do it…it’s the benefits you get to experience that matter…that is the point of doing any self-care act. And when we spend all our time and energy focused on WHAT we’re doing we can easily get distracted by life, old narratives and resistance. However when we keep our attention on WHY we are actually doing it we have a better chance of turning self-care into a non-negotiable habit! So whether you’re interested in yoga or journaling, mediation or sound bathing…every self-care act that you practice, that moves you closer to your WHY, counts! Annnnnd as an added bonus when you practice focusing on your WHY you do the important work of (re)building a trusting relationship with yourself! And self trust is what gets you through the hot messes of life and allows you to flourish with ease!
