For the @chapter_adventure monthly keyword challenge, this month I chose the word LOVE, and of course I needed to read the Do’s and Donuts of Love by Adiba Jaigirdar and as usual this was a brilliant read. Adiba is just an auto buy author for me now, I have read three out of four of her books, and the last one is now on my June read list after I treated myself to it out of birthday vouchers! 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 This book is just fantastically written, the number of donut and baking puns is unreal as well as all the little easter eggs throughout the book. I loved the inclusion of the junior baking show based off the British Bake Off, even with judges whose names were a play on some very famous TV chefs in the UK! The romance throughout was super cute and very PG, which was refreshing to read, the trope was done very well, and I completely shipped the main characters throughout! I like that the author also acknowledged the effect that social media has on reality contestants as there are always “anonymous” people posting and commenting harmful and hateful comments towards others. Shireen is such a lovely, relatable and realistic character, her personality just shone throughout the book, and I would love to be her friend! Majority of her relationships and friendships were goals, I just felt she was too trusting and naive in some places, but glad that she had her best friend to steer her straight! Adiba is just a fantastic author who knows who writing strengths, every single book has been a wonderful read. 🥢Finished Read🥢 . A few days ago I finished my binge read of the Restaurant To Another World manga series. This was for @strayteezathon for the translated from japanese prompt! I have read the light novels for this series so I knew alot about the lore of the series before going into it. I was just so excited for the food art 🤣 and it didn't disappoint. I love portal fantasy and this series does it so well with bringing some classic fantasy races to life in a real world restaurant. The manga did a good job at the world building and the connections between characters but obviously the light novels go into more depth about these. I was a bit sad that the fairies were missing from the manga as they are some of my favourites from the light novels. Like the wolf books above, it’s also a retelling of a lesser known fairytale, The Goose Girl by the Grimm Brothers, which I hadn’t even heard about until I heard about this book, which is exciting. It’s giving Rumpelstiltskin vibes by way of Marissa Meyer’s Gilded, and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds around Vanja, the main character, and her quest for freedom from her godmothers (who happen to be Fortune and Death) while simultaneously dealing with multiple curses bestowed upon her and the hunters after her for stealing some jewels from the aristocracy 😬 #littlethieves #margaretowen

Vor über 10 Jahren war Jennifer Benkau mit dieser Dilogie in aller Munde. Dystopien und Apokalypsen waren groß in Mode. Seitdem stehen die Bücher ungelesen bei mir im Regal. Ungelesene Bücher erzeugen bei mir kein Unwohlsein oder Druck. Sie sind Teil meiner Bibliothek. Ich sortiere nicht aus, nur um einen SuB zu subtrahieren. Falls ich Bücher aussortiere, habe ich vorher reingelesen. Und selbst das tue ich nicht unter dem Vorsatz, mich von dem jeweiligen Buch zu trennen. Hier ergab es sich, dass ich von der Autorin etwas anderes bei Libby als Hörbuch hörte, abbrach und wieder zurückgab. Dabei fiel mir diese Dilogie wieder ein. Ich blätterte kurz durch und merkte, dass mich auch hier die selben Aspekte am Roman störten. Es ist sehr YA, für junge Mädchen, die gerne schwärmen, Helden suchen, um sie anzuhimmeln oder sich in der Prota wiederzufinden. Dafür bin ich definitiv die falsche Zielgruppe. “It’s like, if you had to provide evidence for soul mates, everyone would pick you two.” — Nick and Charlie, Alice Oseman 💏 » Are you a book binger, or do you take your time to read a book? 📚 I normally take my time reading a book over a few days, and that’s mostly because I only have pockets of time that don’t let me sit with a book for five hours a day and so I read a chapter when I can. But it does help to schedule out my reading time and I can plan for having a sweet treat or making tea and have a cozy little moment with the book 😊 However, last week, I had the a very strong urge to just finish a book and all my current reads are over 400 pages, so at like 10pm I scrolled through Libby and lo and behold, two Heartstopper novellas were available and waiting for me to binge them. Which I did, and man, I get couples have rough periods, especially teenage couples, but did Alice Oseman really have to do that to us in Nick and Charlie 🥺 I also read This Winter, which has all the cute moments, then followed it up with the miscommunication trope that is Nick and Charlie and so I think my heart hurt extra and more than it would have normally 😅 But it was fun to be back in the Heartstopper universe again, and I can’t wait for season 3! 🥰 #nickandcharlie #heartstopper #aliceoseman

may 12 ; 📚 Do you prefer a dark and gritty thriller or a cosy murder mystery? I had an interesting conversation with a friend recently when we were talking about books. I wanted to recommend Jesse Sutanto to them. But they mentioned that they prefer darker, gritter thrillers and murder mysteries than the "cosy" types. I on the other hand - much prefer the cosy types. I read the first two books in the Auntie series and Arsenic and Adobo a few years ago and absolutely adored them. Like how do you make murder funny? I will say I am definitely more drawn to Jesse Sutanto's books and Arsnic and Adobo than potentially other cosy mysteries because they are by Southeast Asian authors (Indonesian and Filipino respectively). #lmsmay2024 Right In The Feels & #allthebooksmay24 Currently Reading - One of the many books I have on the go right now is Girls Of Fate And Fury, and it's just as amazing and emotionally tense as I'd expected! Since I just finished reading another book about a revolution and sadly found I couldn't feel invested in any of the characters, I'm even more aware of how intensely I care about the characters in this one! Since the series handles a lot of difficult subjects, and it's been explicitly stated that aspects of it are inspired by Chinese and Malaysian history, quite apart from speculative fiction at its core involving ways of discussing real world issues, I don't think it's inappropriate to bring in a serious real life issue into a discussion of it. The timing of when I'm reading it meant that I couldn't help but notice how it shows attacking refugees as the horrible and evil act that it is. #lmsmay2024 Plot Twist - Because I grew up reading mystery novels, when I hear that a book has a 'stunning' (or similar intensifier) plot twist, I'm immediately on the look out, trying to figure out what it might be, which more often than not spoils the plot twist, as it's not meant to be like a mystery and so you're not supposed to get the 'I was right' thrill. A series that is NOT like that for me is The Locked Tomb, because no matter what you figure out, there's something else going to twist as well, and they DO have elements of mystery novels to them, so you jot only get that thrill, but you can also go back and find all the clues! That's why I almost always end up using this series for plot twist prompts! #booksandmayflowers24 A Queen In Hiding: Exiled Royalty - The first Dorsa book ended with Tasia fleeing a coup and her own execution, so while she wasn't officially exiled, she starts Soldier Of Dorsa as in effect exiled royalty... #myfandomobsessionsmay24 The Sword Of Martin The Warrior: Legendary - Excalibur is obviously the most famous legendary sword! And all of the Arthurian figures reincarnated or awakened in Once & Future are legendary themselves, too. Happy Birthday to Me! I don’t really celebrate my birthday as much anymore, as obviously me and my husband timed things perfectly that both our children’s birthdays are around mine, with one being a week before and the other being next week, my day is kind of overshadowed now ha-ha, but I feel that the older you get the less you celebrate it, but maybe that is just me? Happy release day to the next instalment in the Lore Olympus series by Rachel Smythe, this is one series I cannot wait to start, I am not usually a huge fan of graphic novels, but thanks to the wonderful Alice Oseman for the #Osemanverse I love them! I just finished volume five which I absolutely adored. I love that both Nick and Charlie are still remaining strong and supporting each other, whilst also dealing with their own struggles, I find it lovely that there is a book highlighting just how difficult adolescence is, not everyone at the age of 16 knows what they want to as a profession or what to study and I like that Nick was going through this, I am kind of upset that the next instalment will be the last, but I am no doubt going to laugh and cry and then rewatch the series afterwards! Today’s feature is The Race Is On Series by OC Heaton. There are 4 books in the series, the prequal novella Mad, followed by LEAP, Green Ray, and the most recent release ATOM INC. Each book is a fantastic read with great storytelling, character development, and shock plot twists. I am currently on chapter 23 and have question four to answer in this month long read along, which is a thought-provoking question! Question Four: Do you agree that LEAP should be used to bring people back to life? Answer Four: As much as my love for loved ones would scream and beg for me to agree to this and would love this kind of technology, I don’t believe it should be allowed, playing “God” with something like this is dangerous.
