Supporting a loved one with a mental health problem can sometimes feel like you’re not making a difference. It’s easy to get discouraged when they seem distant or uninterested, but your efforts matter more than you know. Here’s why you should keep showing up, even when it feels tough:
Keep including and inviting them:
- They might feel isolated, but your invitations remind them that they’re valued, even if they don’t always accept.
Notice & remind them of their small victories:
- They might not see their progress. Your recognition can help them realise they’re moving forward, encouraging them to keep trying.
Check in regularly to see how they are:
- Even if they don’t respond, your consistency shows you care. It can be a lifeline on their hardest days.
Listen to them and learn about their problem:
- They might be reluctant to open up, but knowing you’re there to listen without judgement creates a safe space for when they’re ready.
Your support can make a world of difference, even if it’s not always visible. Keep being there for them. 💚
