How to diet for PCOS successfully when 95% of diets fail: Reality is reality so I recognize that working on nutrition might feel like a losing game. But the key to success is in the intention and approach you take to your pcos diet. Diets are most likely to fail when we start them because of guilt or shame, when we don't plan ahead, and when we do too much too fast and burn out. Sometimes the problem comes from the idea of the word diet itself, it has a connotation of temporary pain to fix a problem. In reality, a well balanced approach to pcos is about sustainable long term efforts that compound over time and leave room for you to have ups and downs. I think it works well to outline your intentions first and motivate around those. Make sure that while anesthetics can be part of the goal, they are not the root of the goal. Body changes can be nice side effects but shouldn't be the main reason you're working on your pcos symptoms. A bonus one I think should be included is to get professional help if you can. An expert can help make sense of things that feel confusing and give you objective perspective on your pcos that you can't always do on your own. Professional help can happen in lots of ways- I work one on on, run group programs, and even have courses you can take that help guide you to your own discoveries about your pcos healing journey. 📌If you're on a PCOS fertility journey, save this post! 👉 And if you want a list of the hormones and nutrients I would test for, comment or DM the word TESTING and I'll send it straight to your inbox! 💕 Knowing which hormones need some balancing sooner rather than later means you will be able to create a TAILORED treatment plan from the get go. And if you find any nutrient deficiencies, you'll be able to start working on them right away. ➡️The nutrients I test for all increase the risk of pregnancy loss when there's a deficiency so it's soooo important to find out if they're at play for you. I also recommend taking your test results to a natural health practitioner like a naturopath or functional medicine practitioner. They'll be able to interpret them on a deeper level and will have herbs and supplements that can help balance any hormonal imbalance found and heal any of the pcos drivers you uncover. Reach out if you have any questions! Mel xo

Do post meal walks actually help pcos and insulin resistance? They do! And in more ways than one! Post meal walks are a great way to balance blood sugar and take some of the load off of your insulin to get that energy processed. Preventing larger blood sugar spikes will help your insulin levels stay lower which helps reduce the hormone imbalances of pcos like excess testosterone. Walking can be a form of habit stacking too! You can listen to a walking meditation, guided meditation, podcast (An Amber a Day anyone??) Or just enjoy nature. Time outside is good for the body and soul and is known to boost your mood. Pair the endorphins of walking and sunlight and it also helps your circadian rhythms and will help you sleep! All of this helps balance your stress hormones like cortisol also! Short bursts of movement through the day are more helpful for your long term health than intense exercise a few times a week, so imo it makes sense to get used to a couple 10-15 minute walks a day before you start incorporating heavier exercise- it will help reduce burnout overall. How long do you need to walk to make a difference in your pcos and insulin resistance symptoms? As little as 10 minutes post meal can be effective so start there! Dinner is the most important meal to do this with also. Ps. We are in our final two days of enrollment for PCOS Essentials Academy, my 4 week group program. Wishing a very happy mother's day to all the mothers out there- whether you have a living child, a heavenly child, or even the dream of a future child. I believe you become a mother the moment you first dream that dream, no matter what your story ends up being. A few hopeful facts for my PCOS friends about fertility/motherhood in PCOS: Fertility improves with PCOS as we age- there's a few years just before perimenopause where many women become their most fertile- this is due to lowering overall hormones that give the ovaries a little more space for clear signals! Upwards of 80% of women with PCOS who want to get pregnant will eventually be able to, whether naturally or through assisted reproduction. Women with PCOS have some of the best success rates for interventions like IVF. Lifestyle changes can improve your egg quality, progesterone levels, how often you ovulate and how likely you are to have a live birth. Sending lots and lots of love and hope to you today if you're still trying and lots of love (and maybe a little extra energy) for those of us in the middle of it. Finding movement that you enjoy is key to a joyful existence with PCOS. This can be a challenge when you face the fatigue, depression, anxiety, and/or body shame that comes with the PCOS existence. Try starting very small. Maybe that means sitting outside for a couple minutes each day. Maybe that means walking around your block while listening to your favorite music or podcast. Maybe it means super gentle stretching as you watch your favorite tv show. ANY MOVEMENT NO MATTET HOW SMALL IS VALID. In the book Atomic Habits, the author shares research that substantially supports very small steps create lasting change and success. This is true of my journey. I started with walks and accessible yoga by @mynameisjessamyn @theunderbellyyoga. It now looks like almost daily yoga practice and multiple walks per week and a moderate hike once per week. I LOVE it. But it took time and gentleness. It took finding what worked for ME. Find what works for you. Embrace gentle curiosity and start very small. You can do it with time and compassion. 💖 #pcosweightloss #pcossuccessstory #pcossupport #pcoslife #pcoscommunity #pcosmovement #pcosworkout #pcostips #pcosworkouts #pcostreatment #pcoshelp #pcossupportandpositivity #pcosgirl

Hi! I haven't introduced myself on here in probably like 3 or 4 years? 😅 I'm Mel 👋 I'm a mum from Australia & I help people with PCOS regulate their cycles & get pregnant with PCOS. I do this by being THOROUGH in my approach - I'm a leave no stone unturned kinda gal. I think it's who I've always been - I remember driving my maths teacher crazy in year 8 because I just needed to know the absolute depths of whyyyyyy the maths thing did the maths thing (I don't remember what the thing was lol). But it really helps me now as a PCOS fertility coach because I get to the bottom of why my clients have been struggling to conceive. I've had my own PCOS fertility journey  - I miscarried our first baby & was completely rocked by it. It changed the whole course of my life & lead me to being here talking about PCOS all these years later. It also lead me to my two rainbow babies - Koji (7) & Elma (3). They're the cutest & coolest & although some days are shockingly hard, most of the time I'm just basking in their sunshine. They light up our world & my husband Matty and I are grateful for them every single day. My PCOS fertility coaching biz takes up a fair bit of my time but I actually only work 3 days per week. Aside from seeing clients, I'm currently building an online PCOS fertility course. This is something I've worked towards since way back when I had a miscarriage & it will be the pinnacle of what I offer in this space. Outside of that I'm looking after the kids, gardening on our 22 acre property on the river, batch cooking, singing with neighbours & slowly writing kids books! I'm a nature & animal lover, a feminist & a fantasy reader & I'm really focused on my health. I have Hashimoto's & PCOS. The PCOS side of things is pretty much healed so I'm mostly focused on healing my Hashimoto's. I prioritise my health every day but I don't try to be perfect, I just try to make good choices when I can & enjoy the not so good choices I make. And I've spent a lot of time healing my mind. Healing trauma and rebuilding neural pathways so I can be more chill & less shrill. More relaxed. More kind. More calm. More gentle. It's a work in progress, but aren't we all? ❤️

A gilet. Just a gilet. Why am I posting a gilet? Well over three years ago, I was packing a box of gifts, clothes and all sorts for my best friend who was pregnant with her second little boy at the time. We were just about to start trying for our own baby and shopping for her little ones made me so excited! As I packed up the box, I folded up and placed this gilet inside. My hubby, who was stood behind me, quickly took it out the box and admired it. "This is soo cute! Can we not keep this for our wee one?" I laughed at his optimism, and enthusiasm for all things tan (he is a lover of tan leather jackets, boots and anything branded Timberland!) Anyway, I laughed it off and placed it back in the box. Two weeks later, having posted off their box of goodies, I stumbled across the gilet once again! Unsure whether to scold him or love him more for sneakily keeping it, I held it in my hands and shook my head. Fast forward three years, two house moves and a long struggle with infertility later, I was convinced this tiny item of clothing had become lost forever. That was until, 5 months pregnant, we moved house again and Chris excitedly hung it up in what was to be our wee one's nursery. "You have kept that for three years!" I gasped. He proudly nodded and explained how it had been his token of hope during our bumpy journey of negative tests and constant let downs. Well today, I seen that proud look on his face once again. Our beautiful little boy was finally here and finally big enough to fit it. I never thought a simple and small item of clothing could fill me with so much emotion, so much gratitude and love. Our own full circle moment and a photo that we will both cherish forever...all because of a gilet! #newmum #newbaby #firsttimemum #firsttimemummy #newmummy #babyafterinfertility #happyinfertilitystory #infertilitysuccessstories #pcosbaby #pcossuccessstory

To be honest, supporting my PCOS fertility clients through decision making has been one of the most important parts of my job and I did not see it coming. I didn't remember from my own fertility journey just how many decisions have to be made!! And how debilitating it can be!! ❤️ What I have found through working with my clients is that talking it out, focusing on what we know and making a solid (and also flexible) plan (with back up plans!) is often what's needed to gain clarity and confidence 🙌 If you're struggling through this alone, reach out in my DM's and let's see how I can help you 💕 Mel xo #pcosfertility #pcosfertilitytips #pcosfertilityjourney #pcosfertilitysupport #ttcwithpcos #pcossymptoms #pcostestosterone #pcossuccessstory #pcosinfertilitywarrior #pcossupplements #pcoscoach #fertilitycoach #pcoscoaching #pcosacne #fertilitycoaching #ttcwithpcosjourney #ttcwithpcoscommunity #ttccommunity #pcostips #pcostipsandtricks #pcosinformation #pcosinfo #pcostreatment #pcostreatments #pcoscycle #pcoshormones #pcoshormoneimbalance #pcosjourney #pcosfertilitycoaching

🚨If you think stress is driving your PCOS, consider the idea that managing stress isn't just about things like deep breathing or being mindful. Sometimes there is an internal, biological imbalance that needs healing ⚖️ Stress management techniques like deep breathing are INCREDIBLE and can actually have a huge impact on our nervous system and fight or flight response. These techniques are POWERFUL. But sometimes we need to heal our adrenals too. And sometimes we're not producing enough happy hormones like serotonin 🤷‍♀️ The fantastic thing is that there are herbs and supplements that can support us in this!! For example, if you have a magnesium deficiency (it's estimated that 85% of the worlds population do) then you might be surprised by the impact a good magnesium supplement can have on your stress response, mood and mental health. And you would be blown away by the research we have around adaptogenic herbs like ashwaghanda and rhodiola (did someone ask for a 30% reduction in cortisol? A 50% reduction in depression symptoms?!!) 🤯🤯🤯 Then there's the amino acids that can specifically raise and balance each of our happy hormones. I'm the first person in line to talk about the power of stress management techniques but I also never want to downplay how much our hormones and biology may actually be driving issues around stress and mental health. It's not all on you and the way you manage stress. Sometimes your body actually needs internal help. Growing up my family would take a picture in front of the fountain every summer. Back when people would sell glow sticks, cotton candy, and light up toys. It was a tradition I looked forward to every year. Years ago Sir and I decided we would adopt this same tradition for our own family. We had such a busy and tiring summer but thankfully we made it to the fountain this year, not knowing Baby Sir was going to show up just six days later! We can’t wait to include him in our next fountain pic. I hope he gets excited about traditions as much as I do! #chicagosunmer #summertimechi #buckinghamfountain #blackpregnancy #blackfertility #blackfertilitycommunity #pcosawarenessmonth #pcosawareness #blackpcos #blackpcoscyster #pcossuccess #pcossuccessstory #millennials #millennialmarriage #blacklove #blacklovedoc #familytradition #firsttimemom #firsttimedad #boymom #boymomlife

Comment 🙋‍♀️ below or DM me if you want me to send you my free PCOS supplement guide. It has a full list of testing to get, including for the thyroid because as it turns out, the thyroid really can drive and impact PCOS and fertility!!!! I wish I had learnt this a decade ago. I probably would have gotten the testing done a lot sooner and found out about my Hashimoto's a lot sooner too. If you're ttc with PCOS and you have symptoms of thyroid issues, don't ignore it. Test and find out for sure and then find a natural health practitioner who can help you to heal. So thankful for what I have and what’s to come. If you told me a year ago I’d be expecting my first child I would probably ball my eyes out because it’s taken almost 5 years of loss, heartache, medications and procedures to make this little miracle happen. I never dreamed that we’d be a family of three, walking through infertility I wouldn’t allow myself to hope, after going through so much heart break, loss and failed cycles. Today, we are a family of three and my heart couldn’t be more thankful. There’s beauty in the waiting and pain that comes along with the process to the promise for some, and for those of you still waiting, I see you. Those of you still hurting, I see you. God never said that after he gives you a promise that it would be easy. But now he gets the glory for our story, and we now process what we went though together to get to this space and we rejoice and we thank God that he would gift us such a beautiful baby boy. Right at the perfect timing. I love my family, and I’m so grateful for my life and what the lord has in store for us. 🤍 #infertility #rainbowbaby #pregnancyloss #miraclebaby #clomidbaby #family #lifeafterinfertility #pcosmama #pcosawareness #pcossuccessstory #clomidmetforminbaby #promise #babyboy #perfecttiming #godsplan #godslove #godspromises #infertilitywarrior #pcoswarrior #miscarriage
